British fighters

I think the problem with British fighters is their promoters. I will just list a no. of problems. 1) They overhype the fighters, this leads them to believe they are better than they actually are which inevitably stunts their growth which is why I think it is a good thing that Khan lost early in his career. 2) They feed their fighters journey men in a lot of cases, this isn't good as they lose out on valuable experience. It leads to them getting exposed when they start fighting world class fighters. 3) They are generally given an easier route to fame. Compare Sotto and Khan. This is more to do with hazing to be honest by making things difficult you get the best of the best. 4) Too much fame too fast. Once you start earning big pay checks where's the insentive to step up the opposition or even train that hard. You're already set for life. This guy from Sunderland looks to be an example. In his debut pro fight he had an attendence of 16k I think. ( He flips burgers for a living), they fed this guy a bum the fans were hyped at his spectacular victory. The guy he beat could not box let alone fight he was a running punch bag.

You've got to realise, the last time I can think of British Boxing being big was early 90s. When he had Eubank, Watson and Benn. Since then it's been one or two fighters. British fighters have dominated at S/M since the division was born.. Britain has produced the only undisputed HW champ since Tyson.. Britain has also produced two undefeated champs in Joe Calzaghe & Terry Marsh.. Britain further more, produced the only undisputed cruiser champ since Holyfield.. For a small nation with a population of 62 million, P4P UK kicks ass..

I was just about to ask has he had any one that he could get rounds on to get an idea about his skills. If he is like a young corrie sanders that is awsome considering I am a fan of his, I seem to have a habit of liking underrated fighters He needs to be tested.. He's been in with 1or 2 other unbeaten prospects & thus far, blown them all away.. Fury himself is more or less happy to fight anyone, but I'm not so sure anyone is really queueing up to fight him.. He recently called out English champ, John Mc Dermott, who is very durable & would provide a stern test at this stage.. Mc Dermott has twice lost on narrow DC's to Danny Williams.. Some people may not agree with me, but besides Sanders being a southpaw, Fury could pass as his younger brother.. They're so similar in looks, physique, movement & above all, the way they throw punches.. In fact Fury is a tadge bigger at 6'9" My belief, is that if he shows more dedication than Sanders, he can win something..

The Irish guy beat a weak version of Robinson, no where near as strong as he was against Turpin. Granted... Robinson was probably around 40, but leahy was nothing special..

Honeyghan took down Don Curry when he was reckoned by many to be the best p4p fighter in the world. Randy Turpin also beat Ray Robinson.

British fighters are stepping up and doing very well. Recently Froch has made a statement by beating Taylor. no not quite I will admit I thought froch was nothing but hype but them again I got off the taylor bandwagon long ago.

The funny thing is over the last 10 years or so i don't remeber many too many uk fighters stepping up and losing to American fighters. Lewis, Calzaghe, Hatton to 3 imo over the last 10 years, only Hatton was the one to get beat down badly by an American when he stepped up, the other 2 actually beat some good American fighters.. I was probably guilty of overhyping Hatton but it's hard not to when you are bombarded by so much media hype.
