With hyping a fighter? What? Is hyping up a fighter a little early something wrong? Are we supposed to wait until the fighter is 40 fights and 2 weight divisions deep before he gets any hype? Hyping prospects and looking for the next star is what keeps the sport going. It would have been good if Juanma got some hype before knocking out Daniel Ponce de Leon in 1.
Most of us are fans of boxing so we are supposed to get f*cking hype about solid prospects or we aren't really boxing fans. Believe it or not, there are Jets fans that get excited about their potential each and every season (Newcastle United for the lads) and they never win shit. We aren't scouts, we don't have to get it right every time, we don't heavily invest money in these fighters, if you were wrong about a fighter and you were wrong, that's it. No repercussions except some shit thrown in your direction.
Grow some balls and dare to be wrong.
nothing wrong with hype... LOL, go ahead and get your hopes up, only to have then destroyed. just remember when you commit suicide, don't take anyone w/ you.
nothing wrong with it.
hyping up fighters you like is part of being a fan.
people are just trying to act all high and mighty.
too many people on here are too worried about trying to look unbiased and stuff.
I'm not sure if it's that or it's more of not wanting to be wrong, probably a mix of both.
I'm with you on that, still, its sad how hyped Ortiz was and how he wen't out. Everytime I'd switch to Espn, it was all about Ortiz. Matter of fact, they should hype those who have already been tested in the heart department. Quiting has become way too common now and its sickening.
This thread isn't really supposed to be about VO, but it does directly relate.
Ortiz had shown he was worthy of the hype by taking out Maussa in one round which was way faster than Cotto and Hatton, and something Vivian Harris couldn't do. Arnaoutis drew with Urango, arguably beat Torres, and his only clear loss was from Holt stinking out a decision and he got knocked out in 2. That's 3 recent 140 lb. titlist, that he did measured himself up against, and blew them out of the water and Mike wa coming off a win streak.
Most of the guys that have already been tested in the heart department aren't that good or they're pretty deep into their career.
Like Pink said, it was foty level and, personally, I don't know how many fighters, let alone jr. welterweights, would have gotten up from 3 kd's in 2 rounds and came back even stronger to win.

It was a good fight up until he got hurt in the 6th round and turned his back on the reff....The comment he made in the post fight interview with max were what was sickening to me....Lefty
ummm......that fight was foty level.
people make too big a deal about him quitting.
he had a cut on one eye , his other eye was busted up , i'm sure he was tired as hell.
let's wait and see what he does the next time he gets tested.

He is still young and he has a great future but I wouldn't invest to much time in him if I was GBP. I would get him in there with a lesser opponent and let him get his confidence back. I mean I don;t want to see kid gloves wrapped upon him like Berto but I wouldn;t mind seeing him in there with another young fighter and have him get tested again....If he goes out like a punk again then we got to write him off.....Lefty
It makes for an interesting thread... I for one will always fight my fighters corner.. This normally starts with a fierce, but constructive debate..
However... This will then wind up a thread mugger, who will then take it upon himself to insult 'your' fighter.. I'd say, this is how the hype intensifys..
On a plus, it livens things up between the fans/posters, more often than not resulting in some really funny abuse..
On a minus, it discredits professional boxers..
But as the thread poster rightly points out, Newcastle Utd never win shit..

Some people quit, it happens. Izzy had a broken nose and he quit, that does not make him a quitter or heartless. The truth is, someone should have been knocked out in that Ortiz fight and I myself would rather quit than end up looking like this below

:lol1:
This is the only sport where you are forced to die in, if you run and you pull a muscle, you have to quit but in boxing you have to die?
