would he all of a sudden be a coward? heartless? all of the above? or would it be justified? would you turn on him, or would u show ur hypocrisy? Just wondering..
Mexicans:
if marg were to quit on the stool, with one eye closed and the other cut, would he be a pussy?
Pinoys:
If pac on the stool after taking a savage beating from a bigger puncher, would you want him to go out for another round, only to be finished off? or could it be justified for him to call it a day?
im just wondering thats all....
I know he gave up. But people are insulting him for it where as 99% of the people here wouldn't dare do what he does.
I would if I had the money and the trainer... Being poor sucks.. And I kind of have that katsidis and corrales point of view where I'd give it my best and go out on my back.

technially i already do....maybe thats why im upset he gave up the way he did....
if my favorite fighter quit it's because he fought his hardest and kept going at it till his body can't go anymore.
he wouldn't quit when he finally fights someone who fights back....and don't wanna fight back when it gets tough....
BPP gave his opinion on this fight aswell and said Ortiz quit. You know who BPP is right? I can even show you the post he posted on this forum if you want me to look it up. People are saying he quit because he did and he even admitted it in the interview after the fight. Now some people you might say people like me are using it to annoy others when I'm just pointing out what my eyes saw. :lol1:
In that same post BPP explained that what Cotto did was not quiting because he seriously took punishment and had to go on his knees because of it.

People use the word "quitter" to annoy other people.
People make all sorts of threads talkin shit about how a fighter is a pussy and a quitter if they cannot carry on any more. Any of the people who make them threads wouldn't dare step foot in the ring.

my all time favorite fighter tommy hearns never quit, and he would never quit eighter. hopkins is my current favourite fighter. dont know if he would even quit, he only took real damage once in his first mercado fight. fought thru it. but then he was fighting for his first title, to put food on the table. now its a whole new scenario. eighter way i wouldnt hold it against him at this stage. cuz of his age. if a fighter in his prime quit i would like him alot less. i would never call a boxer a pussy though. nobody who has the balls to get in the ring is a pussy. except charlie z. with him it aint about balls its about lack of brains. i wouldnt call him a boxer eighter. dont know why i mentioned him to begin with..
Wasn't it funny how quick Ortiz got up from the knockdown and then quit? Instead he could have stayed down for a bit if he was seriously hurt and took a long 8 count and got up since some refs even start to count a bit slower to give the fighters more time to recuperate. And it was funny it seemed like he had his legs under him after getting up quickly walking all fine.
My favorite fighter did quit, Erik Morales
but it was in one of the last fights of his career. A career that had you thinking, "how in the hell does he not go down?"
Victor Ortiz gave up at the first sign of trouble metaphorically speaking.
Huge difference.

I seriously don't know man.
I mean I can never imagine pac quitting.
But if he did, I most probably won't hold it against him.
It's him that's getting hit out there man, not me.
But the thing is, what i notice about great fighters is usually they have that "never give-up attitude".
They all know that nobody is gonna hand them that top spot, they have to earn it with blood and sweat.
So I'm really not sure.
I'd probably be really disappointed and would still be a fan but maybe not as big as before he quit....
as people have said before, any fighter is not a pussy, but at the same time in the manner he quit turned alot of people off. he wanted to quit before the doc stopped it, he turned away and shook his hand. so he is a quitter, the going got tough and he couldnt take it. i cant help but think of the greatest warrior, chico, on the verge of tears after his corner stopped it after pbf was beating his ass. i never was a fan of ortiz, so this isnt just hating or me turning my back on him. my 2 cents.
anyone else wanna give their opinion?
I was the main guy defending him after he lost. I mean he was hurt bad...I dont give a sh!t what anyone says and with his closed eye he was just target practices for Maidana. Maidana has 24 kos for 25 wins and can crack at 140. He hit ortiz with repeated flush power shots and ortiz took a lot of them before he went down.
Only thing Ortiz did wrong in my book was fight a dumb fight. Any boxer that gets hit flush like that will go down. As to the question of did he quit...yes he did, but here is my opinion on this:
I think it was a smart move. No sense in taking a beating when he was defenseless against that onslaught. He has a family that depends on him and he is right...no need to take a beating when you can live to fight another day
He is not a pu$$y for that. Im tired of these B!tch ass dudes , who dont even have the balls to step in the ring, call boxers pvssies just because they give in. How many Ali, Freddie Roaches, Gerald McClennons do we have to see before the so called machismo sh!t gets put to rest
Also While Cotto is not my favorite fighter I applaud him for accepting his defeating and quiting. Why? because he could have gotten severly fvcked up if he would have tried to fight through the 11th and 12th round. Ill take that anyday especially knowing he has a family to take care of. Also he lives to fight another day and we get to see Cotto/Pac and maybe Cotto vs Mosley or PBF. I would rather see these guys come back another day so we can see more of them.
Lastly, Ortiz will be back. Most fans will knock him for it but while an immediant rematch wont happen, He will face Maidana again, beat him and all will be forgotten. I just hope he is headstrong and continues his career as a boxer.
I think the fact that Ortiz was clobbered in the back of the head just before he went down might have something to do with it, he did not quit on his stool and he came out trying even when he knew that he might get knocked out. Just tap yourself with your fist on the back of the head and see if you dont get a little dizzy. Any one? Try it and you will see what I mean. I am glad he quit and or the fight was stopped.
I think it's more or less unanimous here that it would depend entirely upon the circumstances. What it depends upon more is the reasons or excuses that follow, how the fighter conducts himself in the post-fight interview. I would like to think that I would never turn on my favourite fighter unless he did something awful like cheating in the ring or sexually assaulted a woman. A real fan is a fan through and through
But if you think any professional boxer is a pussy.... say it to his face. :-)
depends on the circumstance. I dont like quitters, and it depends on your definition of the word. In a perfect world, the corner should stop it. If the corner and the ref and doctor thinks u can continue, and you dont, then thats bad. Some people call fighters quitters when the corner stops it, thats just wrong.
I watched the fight, I was dissapointed that he gave up, and I feel my favourite fighters would have kept going, but I respect his decision, and certainly don't think he was a coward, but he aint no Holyfield either.
