A talented fighter who comes out of nowhere to blow the upper echelon of the sport out of the water.
A win over Kotelnik.. Don't care what nobody says, he won that fight. WATCH IT BEFORE SPEAKING, BTW. He outworked Kotelnik once realizing that power punching wouldn't cut it. That shows the variety that he has in his game. He can swamp you if the power approach doesn't work.
Against Ortiz, he buckled down and showed more heart than you could ask of any fighter. And in the end he BROKE Ortiz's will. As for his knockdowns.. they were beautifully timed. His timing is the best in the sport.
I have high hopes for Maidana. He'll continue on this path just as Pac did once he won. People will call him limited until he slowly patches up all of the *****s in his armor.
If you think otherwise, you know nothing about boxing.
I'm wondering if Team Khan is re-evaluating their evaluation of Kotelnik as the weakest 140 lb champion? IMO, Kotelnik is going to beat up Khan rather badly.
Styles make fights, Kotelnik's European style, hard jab and superior skills gave Maidana problems, Maidana will probably always have problems with really technical fighters. Khan's style is different, more movement, faster, better jab. Kotelnik's stock went up after Maidana's win over Ortiz but I'm still picking Khan to beat him.
It was a legit win for Kotelnik, the jab neutralized a lot of what Maidana wanted to do.

No no no pac...
pacquiao had been in wars before he dominated ledwaba and barrera... I can't tell how far maidana can go but compairing him to pacquiao is a no brainer's comment.
How can you draw parallels between the two?
Prescott is a hard puncher who landed a lucky shot. This is boxing, and lucky shots land. It would have been something else if he was forced to dig deep and eventually made his opponent quit.
There is no similarity in any way.
he is like prescott in that they both stopped promising prospects.
he is unlike pac, because pac destroyed mab who was top 3 p4p.
maidana ain't no pacquiao... maidana is more like prescott.

Wow, you apparently dont know boxing outside of Pacquiao.
Pacquiao didn't become relevant to the world until Barrera. Only the Phillipines knew about Pacquiao, the rest of the world could have cared less about him at the time.
Maidana, who knows. I really dont. Just because he made Victor Ortiz quit doesn't mean shit. Off the top without researching. Who's the guy who KO'd Khan? :dunno:
You just lost all credibility that you had. I can decipher from this post that you didn't even start watching boxing until the past 5 years, tops.
Ledwaba was a very promising prospect back then. You think that a prospect losing in dominant fashion wasn't noted by the boxing community? Are you ****ing kidding me right now? I honestly hope you are joking, or else you have no business talking to me.
Did you hear the HBO commentators concerning the fight, they said it was a cotroversial decision.
I've seen the fight, and it was very controversial. I felt that Kotelnik landed the bigger shots at times- yes. But he was COMPLETELY outworked by Maidana.
I had it 116-111 for Maidana.
Pac burst on to the scene against Ledwaba, you idiot. Only sub-hardcore fans like you are the ones who first heard about him against Barrera.

Kotelnik clearly beat Maidana you twat
you should actually watch the fight before you post bullshit

It was an impressive debut on american soil for maidana and i thought he beat kotelnik too but its a little too soon to say that he will be the next manny paquiao. Ortiz fought very foolishly and underestimated Maidana but you have to give credit to Maidanas composure and ability to recover after being knocked down by ortiz. As you said he still has areas he has to work on i.e improving his defense , throwing more jabs and keeping his punches more accurate , a lot were too wide during the fite. Only time will tell.
i wont go that far yet but ive just became a huge fan.....this guy is trouble at 140 for sure...
At this stage he would absolutely wreck Amir Khan. Absolutely wreck him
LOL, Maidana was knocked down three times and that wasn't exactly a Barrera-like domination when Pacquiao burst onto the scene.
I like the optimism and wishful thinking, but no. Just no.

Time will tell, let him get some tune-ups before taking a big fight though. Work on that footwork, defense and boxing more. Could be great for him in the long run.
Too quick to judge for these new fighters.
People say Victor Ortis is the next Golden Boy.....
People who say that never watched Delahoya on the come up- now that was a fighter who looked unstoppable. These days, it's the promotional organizations and the media outlets that sort of push these fighters into your face. They are only considered the next best thing because it is said so damn much.
But look what happened to media darling Pavlik. Before Pavlik it was Miranda. Before Miranda it was Taylor. Etc, etc.. Boxing is always going to try and force you to believe every fighter you see is the future superstar. But you have to be able to rise above that.
