Well, a lot of Mexican American fans still resent Oscar for "running" against Tito even though he should have won that fight and never actually quit. So this is definitely going to linger over him for a long time.. if he ever rises above contender status. And I agree, getting a rematch would be a step in the right direction
He said nothing really wrong but tried too hard to play to the commentators and the crowd; he lost and people wanted to know why. He said the other guy was better and he wanted to save himself so he could be coherent later in life.
He looked good but the mental aspect is the thing that gets these HBO fighters that are supported and pushed so strongly by them. Once they get cut or face serious opposition, they break mentally (Juan Diaz is a prime example and Cotto to a degree). Nothing against him but for all the shizz people give Khan for losing to an undefeated guy with a 90% KO rating, Ortiz should catch some slack as well for a while.
....that just killed his career right there. I doubt the mexican fans will forgive him for that.
Am I wrong?
I like that he was being honest... I gotta give him points for that... but the mexicans won't ever forgive him.
He was honest would you rather him throw his trainers under the bus, maybe the kid is not cut out for the sport and if thats the case i hope he has a good life boxing isnt everything.
Sometimes honesty isn't the best thing, just ask Judah. He protested the Clottey loss stoppage to not appear as a quitter.
His fanbase is mexican, not german, not gonna cut it to admitt that you can dish it out but can't take it in return.
The only way for him to redeem himself is to get a immediate rematch. No rebuilding nothing....just straight for the rematch. He was already the obviously more talented fighter. It's all mental.
He either has it or he doesn't.
