Antonio Margarito may have sparked "Meldrick Taylor" syndrome in Miguel Cotto.
Margarito put the beatdown on him, plain and simple. It was a Chavez vs Taylor type beatdown. The effects of the beatdown were evident in his struggle with Josh Clottey. Clottey is not a hard puncher, yet he had Miguel running and trying to survive the final rounds. Cotto fought valiently, but he took a lot of shots and was at times, clearly shaken up by Clottey.
Cotto is no longer the same fighter, not since the Margarito beatdown. I think Freddie Roach sees this, and it's going to show in the Manny Pacquiao fight. Another smart move by Roach, they seen weaknesses in DLH and Hatton and I'm sure they see the effects of the beating Tony gave Cotto.
cotto ain't shot, he just has problems against huge focking WWs, of which pac is not.
you might've considered them huge WW's because Cotto couldn't hurt them.....well Manny walked through his shit like air......can we call Manny a huge WW now?!?
I can't see how Cotto will be the same again after this fight. The beatings he took against Marg and Pac will definately effect him mentally and physically from now on. Maybe its best if he retires.
miguel was trying to survive the final rounds against mosley as well... and clottey is no bum. clottey is an elite fighter he just has not gotten the exposure he deserves. I actually give manny a much higher chance against clottey than cotto.
that being said, cotto is no meldrick taylor. I didn't see anything in the Clottey fight that would suggest that he is shot; I would have expected to fight the same fight prior to the Margarito fight.
I like how people claim Cotto is still maturing as a fighter.
When he peaked years ago. He is on the Descent down.
I agree that Cotto has been on the slide for a while. Mainly because he takes a lot of punishment and not just against Margarito. I don't think he's shot but he's not at his peak anymore.

Is Margarito the same after the Shane Mosley beat down? Who has ever had an easy fight with Clottey? Cotto is fighting on to bigger and better things while Margarito serves a suspicion in disgrace and suspicion about the legitimacy of his career.. I would say Cotto got the last laugh.
Taylor wasn't immediately shot after that first fight with JCC, but that fight did leave him with mark the beginning of his decline. And I believe the Margarito fight did the same to Miguel Cotto, Manny and Roach will look to take full advantage of this; I'm sure they are thinking the same thing.
cotto has always been vulnerable since 140 lbs. I don't think margo did anything to cotto physcially, but hurt his confidence.

every fight takes away from a boxer....have you box perro????? margarito def took some away from cotto. but look at the cheater how he look with mosley. i believe cotto hurt him too, LEGALLY. WE CANT USE THE CLOTTEY FIGHT TO SEE HOW COTTO'S COND. IS BECAUSE NOBODY HAS LOOKED GOOD AGAINST Clottey. :boxing:
It's not about Cotto being brain-damaged like Taylor, it's the notion that the Margarito fight may have taken something out of Cotto, like the Chavez fight did to Taylor.
Cotto is still fighting at a high level, like Taylor was for roughly 2 years after Chavez, but there's the belief that neither guy fully recovered from those fights.
Thank you....
There aren't any signs whatsoever that Cotto is taking too much punishment to be closely compared to Meldrick Taylor. That's just ridiculous.

Biggest win against who? A washed up Mosley?
Clottey isn't really a huge name. Even though he's solid.
A washed up mosley who put a beating on the cheater.

MC is not completely shot but he is no doubt still suffered from the Margarito loss both physically and mentally. MC lacks the confidence and determination he had before the Tony fight and it was more then obvious in his fight with Clottey. Pac is going to beat Cotto bad IMO and get a KO/TKO when he makes MC question himself in the ring. Clottey did that to MC but he didn't have the skills to capitalize on it like Pac does.
Even if the Margarito fight never happened I think Pac would still win, but by a close decision.
I agree with the bold, MC is damaged from the Margarito fight and Pacquiao and Roach are going to exploit that. You hit the nail on the head.
