Just watched Oscar vs Mosley 1 for the first time in ages and it became clear almost instantly that NONE of the WW of today could handle these cats in their prime! Not Margarito not Cotto not Clottey not no catchweight Manny and not no Floyd Joy Mayweather! The speed the skill the chins and the power, the determination the grit and the stamina was unreal! Actually a Great fight ive not credited enough, two PRIME ELITE fighters at the top of their games putting on a top class showing.
Todays guys are lucky that Shane aint what he was and Oscar too
Floyd was in his prime potshoting an old Oscar. Oscar circa 2000-2001 would have given him the business.
I do wonder, if Cotto were to beat Floyd early next year or so, would Floyd be considered shot? I ask this because last night I had a dream that I went to the fight at the MGM and Cotto escaped with a UD and NSB went haywire afterwards with claims that Floyd was shot. I know it's unrelated, but w/e...
They could beat Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, and so on because they are not special fighters but they still wouldnt beat a Mayweather or a Williams. Dont act like these guys were in a class of there own. Oscar had a few gifts before that fight and Mosley got destroyed by Forrest not long after this fight so lets no overrate them and make them out to be some WW monsters that they never were
Both would give Floyd the business, remember floyd hasn't even been in the ring with a real WW yet. Shane still had his speed, oscar still had all the tools that made him special. Both would've beaten floyd.
I agree,if floyd fought a prime Oscar,he would have got KO'd!!no fighter is knocking floyd out, trust and believe...floyd beats and version of oscar and shane....
Not Even!! Prime Oscar/Mosley would make Floyd look like the Oba Carr of the WW division.yeah...okay...sure....mayweather is this generation's special fighter...his skillset trumps oscar's and mosley's....you'll rarely find a fighter with his gifts...why do you think oscar hired floyd's dad? why did shane start fighitng like floyd? they know he's the truth...he would beat oscar and shane in their primes and he called them both out publicly and they kept quiet...
shane would never ever ever beat floyd and neither would dlh. Shane turned floyd down at 135 and floyd was still at 130. floyd at 135 was better than shane at 147. floyd out boxes these guys any day of the week.

This was when DLH was in good form and before he started his inactive years and fighting once a year.
actually, oscar wasnt in such good form, he had been very distracted with the whole singer thing........

yeah he did because he is a true warrior and a true champion unlike your fraud
lets see fraud take on a prime taller longer fighter?
oh wait there is pwill
lets see him do it and see how he comes out of it?
dont give me the money or lack of draw bullshit either cause Forrest was a nobody in the general publics eye just like pwill
thats what I thought
I hear you. It's a close one either way IMO, but I'd just lean towards Oscar
Mostly based on his showing against Mayweather himself. I agree with you that Floyd won slightly more clearly than some would have you believe but I saw enough in Oscar to come to the conclusion that he could push Floyd to the limit were he at his peak. That jab is really disruptive to Mayweather's rhythm, and I think Oscar would get the better of Floyd when he fights in the pocket or off the ropes
And as JmH Reborn pointed out, De La Hoya had the ability to snatch the closing rounds by wide margins when he needed it, and one or two rounds could make all the difference in a fight like this
Thanks, that is all I was trying to convey. Oscar had something a bit special to dig deep and pull out the wins when he needed to.
SG,
I pick Floyd prime for prime. Oscar could be outboxed - that was weakness. Quartey won rounds outboxing him, Mosley did it, an old Pea, even Oba Carr had his way with him for many rounds.

True enough.
But my concern is whether or not Floyd would have a high enough output to win the decision.
As I said, prime Oscar flowed punches beautifully. And whether Floyd picks them off or not, that shit impresses judges.
Also, prime for prime ; you have to consider popularity possibly playing a role in the decision.
The crowd always went batshit whenever Oscar so much as sneezed in the ring.
That could help sway some of the close rounds in his favor.
Not saying it's fair, but it is why I'd pick him.
Fair points, bud.

He was still the aggressor the majority of the time, he got tired from swinging and missing, but even with the counters, up until the final bell, Oscar was pushing the fight forward.
The Tito fight was more faulty logic from his corner.
In the Mosley fights, they banged until the final bell in two great fights, with the second fight I thought Oscar won in a landslide, but hey.
I always thought Oscar had the ability to dig deep in the championship rounds and pull out a gut check win. Like the Cotto/Clottey fight.
His corner told him to box in the Tito fight. he admitted he was tired.
I can. I thought Floyd won going away. Plus, the idea that Oscar was the aggressor was false. Once he started getting caught with counters, he didn't push Floyd at all.
As for "if Oscar had the stamina of his youth"...ehh. Like he showed against Tito? Mosley both times? I don't know.

Everybody has different styles of judging based on what they favor. I personally thought Floyd won as well, but I cannot fault someone who would have scored it a draw or a tight SD for Oscar.
Floyd played it safe and rarely took the fight to Oscar, settling for pot shots. I definitely could see how it would have been scored differently. If Oscar had the stamina of his youth to throw those jabs consistently who knows. Even then, he was the aggressor, and I don't think it was really all that ridiculous.

That split decision was ridiculous. Floyd won clearly.
