Big Update On Pacquiao vs. Cotto

Latest on payday, weight, and more...
Trainer Freddie Roach recently told *********.com that Manny Pacquiao deserves 70% of the payday in a fight against Miguel Cotto. Coach noted that Cotto doesn't have a history of delivering PPV buys like Pacquiao does. Cotto's best remains 425,000 buys for his fight against Antonio Margarito while Pacquiao did 1.25 million buys for his fight against Oscar De La Hoya and nearly 1 million buys for his fight against Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao's lawyer Franklin Gacal has already said that Pacquiao won't accept less than a 65%/35% split with Cotto.
Roach also agreed to 144-145 catchweight.
Promoter Bob Arum says that the fight will happen at the MGM Grand but probably not on the date Pacquiao wants, October 17th, due to competition with the World Series.
"We've told Manny about fighting on that date, and not on Oct. 17, because of the World Series," Arum said. "You can't compete with free TV and baseball is big among Puerto Ricans. We'll be charging $50 for them to watch us and we can't compete with free television."
Arum has given Pacquiao associate Mike Koncz the proposal for Pacquiao and Gacal to review next week. Arum said the proposal is "very fair" to both parties.
Arum wants to finalize the deal by the end of the month so he can start promoting the fight with Pacquiao and Cotto doing promotional pushes in New York and Puerto Rico.
Have you ever heard of the term, "what have you done for me lately"? The numbers in their upcoming fights will be a huge factor at the negotiating table. You can keep trying to kid yourself, but that's just the way it is homie. Manny's numbers vs Cotto will surpass "Mr PPV's" (lol) numbers vs JMM.
LOL. I'm aware of the terms homie. if u think that comparing numbers against common opponents won't factor when they sit to crunch numbers it is you who are kidding yourself. The arguement will be the opponents that they respectivly fought. They will not base the entire split based on one fight. That would be moronic. They will base it on the earning potential of the Floyd Pac fight as well as the resume both fighters have when it comes to bringing in money. De La Hoya budged in Negotiations when he fought Pac coming off a not so great Pay per view number with Diaz. Reason being they took into consideration the opponent and they were realistic when considering what manny can bring to the table.
Its doesn't matter if Manny and Cotto do better numbers. Floyd has never fought Cotto. What it will come down to is their three common opponents and the numbers they did with them respectively

Manny vs Cotto will do better numbers. It's already been proven that the public is not interested in paying money to see Floyd.

That theory only would work if JMM and Floyd did worse than Pac and JMM. If it doesn't then its hard to really find another angle.

Manny vs Cotto will do better numbers than Floyd vs Marquez. They'll use that at the negotiating table to justify Manny's purse.

It's interesting that they bring up PPV numbers for the reason that Manny should make more money. Team Pac won't acknowlegde them when they negotiate with Floyd.

Yes Its is.
Que paso ciontigo ahora cabron? Why all this Cotto hate all of the sudden?
70/30 is a ridiculous offer, period!!!!!!!
6040 is what it should e. Cotto brings as much people as Pacquiao, plus he accepting the fukking BS catchweighT!!!!!!!!!
hmmmmm, what about 69/31?

then oscar deserved 75-25.if we go by ur dumbass ways
But hey, Manny has fought them both... Cotto hasn't. End of the day, Manny's been in the bigger, more money generating fights.
so then by that logic Steve Forbes gets the credit for selling 28,000 tickets when he fought Oscar...
And Mayorga is always good for 935,000 ppv buys........
lol
Without Oscar and Hatton, Pacquiao did 355K with JMM
Cotto did 450+ with Tony!!!!!!
60-40 is what is right, 65-35 somewhat acceptable, 70-30 is as ridiculous as the 142 catchweight!!!!!
And Cotto lost his fight against Tony, so his stock drops. Manny's been winning and he's raised his stock by whooping the two biggest names in the sport. 70-30 is not that ridiculous.
70-30 take it or leave it pac will fight mosley...
yup co-sign!!!!!!
^^^^ you guys need to realize.. that even that pac is the p4p #1 and the hot fighter!! cotto's contract is about to expire.. and the only way papa arum is retainin him is by giving him a pac fight. Pac works for arum, so does cotto. He wants to keep both camps content... and he knows how to mislead all of his fighter for at the end.. hes gonna fill more his pockets!! his a greeddy bastard who knows what hes doing.. as you can see team pac man has already accepted the 65-35 split @ 145 and the only one that is like we say here..que esta tirando balas locas is freddie roach......
but at the end... arum is the boss.. and he already have gave this one the blessing.
this one is a wrap. so freddie roach needs to shut the fu ck up just like team pacqiauo told him a few days ago.
Yeah, Pac can go on and fight Sugar, but I think Cotto is a more winable fight for Manny.
nope.. pac is fighting cotto!!!!
boxing 101 remember promoters.
Cotto has headlined several ppv cards in the past. Judah, Malignaggi, Mosley, Margarito and a few Top Rank ppv shows when he was an up and coming fighter.
Cotto's name carried most of the promotion for the ppvs he has had and did pretty good numbers. Pacquiao has always had help with the sales of his ppvs with the exception of the Diaz fight which his name carried most of the promotion.
People are lying if they believe that Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Delahoya and Hatton didn't help push ppv numbers.
yeah but vice versa, Im sure Manny provided in those #'s too. Delahoya is in his own world for PPVs.

Dude, who cares how many PPV fights Manny has...how many PPV fights has Antonio Tarver or PBF headlined? Does that mean they're the biggest draws in boxing? Hell NO...
Cotto and Clottey was on HBO - AND??? So was Mosely and Margarito (you can't deny those could have been PPV fights and folks would have paid for it)
Cotto vs Clottey almost sold out MSG and the fight was FREE on TV... how's that for drawing power..Hmmmmmm????
I AGREE WITH YOU - Pac is the MAN right now; and YES - he deserves the largest split and should fight wherever he wants to fight. BACK TO THE MAIN POINT: Cotto vs Hatton would outsell Pac vs Hatton..... it's OK if you don't agree
how could you go from that to saying Cotto vs Hatton would sell higher than Manny. Before Hatton got KTFO by Manny, I think its safe to say a 140 Hatton vs 140 Manny would outsell a 147 Cotto vs Hatton. But whatever..

I don't agree with the above underlined... Pac is a huge star right now and his fight with Hatton created a tremendous amount of hype and intrigue, more so IMO, than a Hatton vs Cotto fight would.
ok boriquaeer...when was Cotto headlining and why was Clottey vs Cotto on regular HBO. Shouldnt a headliner have that as a PPV? Manny hasnt a had a nonPPV in awhile.
Cotto isnt a joke though, I'm just saying Manny is a headliner and should get the lions share. Also Pac was on PPV before Cotto, Cotto was wiping someone elses ass at the time.

Yes, Shodumb, I AM saying Hatton vs Cotto would have done the same if not MORE than Hatton vs Pac.... if you think I'm the only on this site who believes that then you Sho R Dumb....
Cotto was headlining PPV fights before Pac learned how to wipe his ass...
