JMM remains the key to beating Manny Pacquiao. If Cotto comes out and tries to bully Pacquiao, he's getting Laid TFO. With that said, is Miguel Cotto as good a boxer as Juan Manuel Marquez?
Here's the thing guys... As good as Marquez is, Manny was still able to find a way to knock him down 4 times. Marquez is a wizard in that ring, yet Manny found a home for his shots. Cotto is somewhat flawed defensively. You all can say what you want, but he gets hit and gets busted up. He gets caught and hurt. He couldn't even avoid punishment by the slowest fighter in the game. If Manny can find Marquez' chin he won't have a problem finding Miguel's.
Marquez is way more skilled than Cotto, but Cotto would destroy him. He is just too big and powerful, and nothing Marquez throws would even faze him.
To be fair, I'll look at what both guys do in their next fights to make a prediction. But believe it or not, I lean toward JMM. He might not KO Cotto with one punch, but he would bust him up and win a UD or get a late round stoppage.
it doesnt make a difference who is the better boxer because if you put jmm in the ring with cotto he gets smashed. pound for pound jmm is better than kelly pavlik but i wouldnt like his chances in that fight
I'd like to see a fight between Cotto and JMM if they both win their next fights. That would be a super fight if there ever was one. I know most people think Cotto would automatically win because of his size, but what about those uppercuts he would have to deal with coming from unpredictable angles.

go watch what mosley said right after the fight ended
hint: he said margo hurt him, but he clinched to avoid him from following up and hurting him badly. of course, he changed that version of the story when he was interviewed later by espn, where he said that the plaster wouldn't have made any difference on the outcome
i know the quote in question. he said that he got hit and it woke him up. he was never in trouble of getting stopped.
does mosley have half the skills? he admitted getting hurt in the margo fight
mosley was never hurt against margo. at most, mosley said margo's punches kept him from being lulled into a false sense of security since it is so easy to hit margo flush.
That just means he's more susceptible to getting hurt. Cotto seems to always find himself in situations where he has to fight his way through adversity. Marquez is better skilled and better defensively than Cotto. Pacquiao has been the only one able to present Marquez with major adversity. Work the equation out for yourself.
Co-sign!!!!!!
both cotto and marquez are on my top 3 favorite active fighters, but damn... how the hell does people dare to compare them in terms of boxing skills? it's a no contest
in fact, if cotto is even close to him in skills, he will have an easy time on nov 14. marquez + 15 lbs in muscle + more power = RIP manny. of course, it won't turn out to be an easy fight for him because although cotto has good timing with his punches, he's not a counter puncher like marquez
i got cotto by late TKO anyway, but marquez is still worlds apart in terms of skill. in fact, if marquez was a natural WW, i'd pick him over floyd any day
lol so marquez is more skilled than floyd now
these floyd haters get funnier every day
if cotto had half the skills of jmm, cotto would've easily UD margo
...and he would have never gotten dropped against Torres or clipped by Corley. Cotto always seems to find himself in at least a little bit of adversity. That could be bad news against a whirlwind like Manny.
Ima fan of Cotto's, but anyone that actually believe Cotto is on par with Marquez in the boxing category needs to re-evaluate their knowledge of boxing.
Agree with the bolded part!
If anything, Cotto's heart has been tested a lot more than Marquez IMO. Marquez's most grueling fights were both against Pacquiao. Cotto was rocked twice early on in his career only to come back and win both fights by KO. He went to war with Margarito and fought with a badly cut eye for a good majority of his fight with Clottey.
The only comparison I have with both is they have ring smarts and are patient fighters who wait for the opening.

Cotto has better footwork is a bit more slippery than JMM you ca say he's more agile than Marquez. Less vulnerable to cuts.
JMM is very basic but extremely intelligent, perhaps the best couter puncher in his era, he adapts to whatever you bring, has power in both hands... also this guy's heart is underrated, he has wayy more heart than Cotto, just when you think he's down and out, he comes back and outboxes you round after round. Marquez's downside is that he cuts easily, and he gets hit alot nowadays

You can't just base Marquez style as the only way to beat Pacquiao. This is why I know for a fact a lot of you are looking at this fight all wrong.
Cotto presents a lot of problems for Pacquiao from his jab, body work, power, deceptive Boxing skills, ring generalship, patience...the list goes on.
I guarantee you ask anyone prior to Pacquiao even beating Oscar if he would beat Cotto and about 90% of you would say "Hell No!". But all of a sudden, people are supposed to forget that Cotto is still 34-1 with wins over guys like Mosley, Judah, Clottey, Quintana in the span of 2 1/2 years? Did he get there by simply being a C level fighter? SMH...
Forget about Marquez, Pacquiao's dealing with a whole other beast come Nov 14th.
Exactly, Cottos power and size advantage cannot be ignored.
If Cotto can get his jab going and is able to get to Pacquiao's body, i see it being a painful night for Pacquiao.
