Not this again. I'll say it one more time the limit is 147, if Cotto exceeds the catchweight the fight will be called off, but it will not be against the governing bodies (WBO's) rules, however the legally binding contract Cotto signed will be breached, and he will be viable to be apprehended in a court of law. The maximum weight is 147, and thats all the WBO cares about that fighters do not exceed the weight. If two fighters agree amungst themselves to not weigh past a certain limit, then that is their decision, and the WBO will treat it as if it is a full flegged WW fight, hence having the belt on the line. It doesn't matter if the fight is at 140.1lbs or 147.o pounds as long as you weight within those seven pounds it WILL be considered a title fight.
Honestly I thought you guys knew more about boxing and how weigh-ins work.
Do you have a link with that rrule please ?
I tried to find it but I didn't have any success.
But You should be allowed to weigh in up to 147. If the fight is 141 -144 Its not a welterweight championship fight. Its instead a fight at an agreed weight that happens to be in welterweight range.
i think this is checkmate..
but somehow...
it seems like it will make look or do better numbers if the belt is on the line...
but the question is why? if the champ cant use the gap between 141 -147.
just to have fun....
i think they should split the belt in 3/4 ....
and fight for 3/4 belt!
as long as the fighters are 147 or under , the welterweight title is on the line.
welterweight is 141-147.
you don't have to weigh in at 147 to fight for a welterweight belt.

You dont HAVE to weigh 147, but you clearly have the RIGHT to if you so desire.
The rules clearly state that for a welterweight title to be on the line, both participants must weigh in at or below 147 pounds. Pac and Roach have no right to essentially change the rules to say that for THIS PARTICULAR 'welterweight title fight", both participants must weigh in at or below 144 pounds. They are not a commission nor a sanctioning body. It's crap, and its too bad that the sanctioning body doesnt prohibit it. You want to fight at 144? Fine. But no title. If you want the welterweight title, the limit is 147.
End of Story.
solid one!! :boxing::boxing:

how do you know this?
he hasn't been weighed unofficially in a long time.
he was 155 when he use to fight at 140.
i dont know it for sure!!!
i cant argue that...
those were the last numbers i remember cotto comming into a fight....
:boxing: and i've never seen him comming in weighting 160 ...
still.... the more heavy cotto comes into the fight the better for pac speed to explote that...
When all four alphabet titles at 160 were on the line between DLH and B-Hop, DLH made B-Hop agree to a catchweight of 157 or something like that.
That being said, I don't see why not.
Cotto just needs to be healthy, none of that weight-drained bs...how would it be if Pac was to go to 130 right now? same sh1t. :drive:
How can cotto be weight drained when hes gonna come in to the ring at 160 lbs
because it takes out the benefit of not to have a hard time getting to 143-144.
thats the other point u want to ignore.
but at fight night pac would stay at ww weighing around 147 but cotto would be at 160
Exactly what some of your people said for the 2nd Marquez fight. I'm not making excuses for Cotto, I just want him to be able to rehydrate on fight night healthy and not come in like DLH. If he can make 142-143 healthy and rehydrate next day fine, then fine by me..:boxing:
This makes good sense to me. After reading all the opinions here, i think the belt should be on the line if both fighters can be at a healthy weight for the fight, no dehydration problems or overweight excuses. I'm all for Cotto, but i want it to be fair for Manny too, or else it ain't a fair fight if either fighter has to make any substantial sacrifices.
They should both fight at a comfortable, healthy weight and the belt up for grabs. If that can't happen then the fight shouldn't even happen.
That sounds fair to me.

cotto vs pac apparently is going to be @ catchweight: should the belt be on the line? | BoxingScene Community
