the most mentally tough fighters i've seen as of late are guys like Mayweather, Mosley, and Hopkins. Those guys there really dont seem to be affected by the media, fans, or other fighters.
Too many fighters lately seem to get mentally broken by either the fans, or another fighter, or the media...
hopkins and mosley are my two most PRIME examples of that...mosley and hopkins both had every reason to walk into the ring and lose (mosley to margarito and hopkins to pavlik) and no one would have criticized them for doing so as they were seen as past their prime going into the fights against two other very good fighters...
the media and fans werent shy about pointing it out either...the chips stacked against both of em...and what do they do? they go out there and do it. period. thats mental toughness...they could have just went the distance to say they can still hang in there but they in big a big way...highlight reel worthy moments of their careers.
thats mental toughness; when most dont expect much more than you to show up and hang in there and turn the tables and deliever.
Thats why certain fighters are so loved in the sport...the warrior mentality...thats why mexicans are so proud of their fighters because they are known for having all the courage and heart in the world.
I cant lie, thats why i admire certain fighters a lot more...i admire guys like gatti, corrales, JLC, MAB, etc (too many to list) because of their heart.
as i had said before (in a thread asking about the first fights we remember seeing growing up) and mine was tyson-holyfield I. i was in elementary school when that fight took place. but the fight that changed me for a casual viewer to a true die hard FAN was seeing fighters with that courage...that warrior mentality...
guys like corrales getting up from two knockdown in a round to comeback and stop his opponent in what i consider the most exciting round of boxing i've ever witnessed...and the hardest round to watch since his passing...
or seeing gatti and ward go back and fourth in their first fight and punching until they literally couldnt punch no more.
those guys are what makes the sport truely special.
its hard to say whos the toughest mentally. there are far too many to list; in this era or otherwise.
Pacquiao can keep his cool in front of 1000's of fans like nobody else can
JMM as well, very mentally tough, even when cut.
Aaahhh haaaaa, just the answer I was looking for.
JMM has shown his mental strength every time he steps in the ring. He's been down 3X in a round and has managed to come back and win almost every round after that. He's been cut on a few occasions and hasn't folded under pressure in those rounds like Manny and Cotto.
B-hop was great but that Calslappy fight tainted his greatness a little, B-Hop could have won that!!! B-Hop vs Pavlik is mental toughness!!!
WTF are u talking about brah?
go watch morales vs pacquiao 1. Pacquiao gets cut early in the fight almost KO's morales in the 12th & fought according to roy jones who was commentating "like a real champ"
http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/1202/box_g_pacquiao_576.jpg
go watch pacquiao vs jmm 1 & 2.
Most mentally tough fighter in the game is juan manuel marquez. he actually fights better when cut, bleeding, or knocked down.
No Brah! I've seen each of those fights enough to stay with my opinion.
And speaking of jmm/pacq 1, I was I was to form an opinion of pacq based on that one, wouldn't I have a good argument for him mentally melting down?
Think about it! If you got a guy out and ready to quit after blitzing him in the 1st, shouldn't the mentally STRONGEST fighter finish him off? He doesn't come to box right? He comes to destroy!
So no BRAH! I disagree.
srry i called you a pussy, i jus get carried away on this damn website lol
i think joe won, but i hopkins was being to defensive,
but he isnt that dirty a fighter, it has alot to do with the
way he fights on the inside.
See how shyt gets out of hand on here!
Props to both of u for acknowledging how unnecessary it was and admitting it in front of the board.
Probably because you said Im a pussy ass and should take up ballet. Hopkins own fouling aside he looked like a beaten man to me in the Calzaghe fight. Now whether he won or lost is debatable, but he wasnt acting like the winner with the low blow faking he looked like he wanted to win by making Calzaghe lose points. I agree BHop is a great fighter who doesnt have as much natural skill as a lot of fighters, so it takes a lot to reach the top under those circumstances. I just think instead of digging deep hed rather the judge just penalize his opponent.

i dont know why your hatein on me for,
im 21 by the way,
and i dont condon headbutts, but saying that B-hop just rely's on dirty tactics to win is crazy, its just his style causes headbuttts sometimes.

If you believe that then that makes one of us. Any true boxer who condones headbutts should be shot in the ****in head. How old are you bro? And I hope you aint gonna say like 18 cuz if you've been boxing since you were 13 you wouldnt wanna be gettin in loads of street fights shits bad for your hands, and dont tell me you're 25 cuz if you didnt start boxin till you were 20 you may as well give it up except for stayin in shape. Basically I believe your an ethug with no athletic abilities whatsoever.

You do realize street fighting and boxing have different rules right? Im pretty sure by reading your posts you've done neither so I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the differences.

I c sum of u forgot about hop/fagazhe! I would call his performance in that fight a mental breakdown. Cotto? Thats laughable. The guy gets rocked by the same punches over and over again! JMM, psh! KD by the same punch 3x in the same rd.
Does anyone recall the gash that PW got? Remember when he went over to his corner and just stared off into space with a blank stare. Then after the break he continued to proceed with his gameplan. Contrast that with cotto's response and tell me who is mentally tougher?
How about pbf being schooled by zab in the 1st few rds. Did he panic? Nope, just stuck with the game plan of press. and patience. Now b4 the haters start, yes, he may b a mental midget outside until he proves otherwise. But, between them ropes he is an artist.
pacq has yet to face real adversary yet. So the jury is out on him.
Floyd as your pick make sense for the fact we've never seen him break in the ring, but hes never really had to fight anyone who could challenge him. Until we see him come from behind or at least have someone who can push him to the limit I say jury is out on him too.
who is it? who has the most mental strength???
Vic Darchinyan. He can get knocked out, watch it with the interviewer on replay and still deny it even happened.
He will then turn around and threaten the guy that beat him and tell him he will kick his ass again! LOL
If your talking mentally strongest, B-Hop and Mayweather. Pacquiao wasn't too confident going in against both DLH and Hatton. Pacquiao isn't a confident person but that doesn't work against him, still does his thing.
you wouldent fight me,
u'd be to scared that i might headbutt ya

Hopkins for me.
Pac!? Fukk no the guy gets flustered when cut, he looks like he wants out of there and u see him begin to weaken mentally at times, anyone seen the Sanchez fight?
Cotto is a good shout. Hopkins takes it tho, OR Marquez
