Segundo Mercado was one of the best MW's of the mid 90's. He fights Hopkins once, and escapes with a life and death draw in his home town during a civil war, he rematches Hopkins gets totally destroyed, becomes damaged goods and levitates in the fringes before he retires. Antwan Echols comes around. The monster punching middleweight KO's his way up the division and gets a shot at Hopkins where he loses a one sided UD and takes a lot of punishment. He works his way back up the division, faces Hopkins a second time, and receives a savage beating at the hands of Hopkins, becomes damaged goods and begins losing to much less fighters. Kieth Holmes was a two time WBC MW champ. He suffered a one sided beating from Hopkins and was forced to pursue a career raping to make up for the heart sore. Then comes Robert Allen. If one fight with Hopkins wasn't bad enough how about 3? He has been done ever since.
Tito then comes around the one time undefeated monster puncher gets mentally raped during the build up, and recieves by far the worst beating of his career and is KO'd for the first time. After this loss he was never the same, forced to retire, and comes back to lose to Winky Wright and Roy Jones. Yet another fighter ruined by the EX man. Howard Eastman then comes by loses to Hopkins, losed his head, and then ends up getting knocked out by the likes of Miranda. Then comes in Taylor. He receives two gift decisions that Hopkins deserved, but no matter because he would go on to get KO'ed by Pavlik and Froch now looking like another shot fighter.
Following Taylor comes Tarver. He suffers a humiliating loss at the hands of a 40 year old ex middleweight and then looks to no longer be the same fighter. Winky Wright follows. He suffers a wide decision loss only to come back and lose to a man who was only a few months ago was a welterweight. Then comes Calzaghe who is awarded a contreversal split decision only to go on to beat RJJ, but get knocked down and hurt badly. He then retired probably sensing that a loss would be around the corner. Following Calzaghe comes Kelly Pavlik a middleweight marvel that many thought would go on to be the net great American fighter. Most pundits believed he would not only beat Hopkins, but be the first to knock him out. However the agless Hopkins turned back the clock and gave Pavlik the most humiliating beating of his life. This beating then leads to him not only becoming less of a fighter, but it leads him to turn to alcohol. There is now speculation of him entering alcohol rehab.
With this diverse list of fighters either outright ruined physically, and mentally or just not the same after fighting Hopkins only one can assume the fate in store for either Carl Froch or Thomasz Adamek. Will Carl Froch get a sex change? Will Adamek become a heroine addict? Only time will tell, but what everyone should believe is that Bernard Hopkins truly does ruin fighters and careers.

They'd stomp the Colts cold. I mean it would be an annihilation.
Manning wouldn't make it out of the first half alive.
seriously???? Reggie wayne and Dallas Clark would abuse your secondary/LB's ... then Donald Brown would run through your DT's setting up a playaction to Wayne over the top for a TD... it would just be all day... then we'd wait for Cutler or Forte to start Fukin up... which would happen.. believe it
he fuucking does. but sad thing is he got beat by a white boy.
I like Hopkins, he smack talks but you kind of know that it is for a fight, with Floyd, I think it is part of his personality. Either way, Calzaghe is the only guy I have ever seen throw Hopkins off his game, really off. He maintained during the Jones and Taylor fights but Calzaghe had him looking befuddled- close fight but the winner was clear.
This rematch would be kind of close in my eyes, Jones has a rekindled spirit and he has the experience and mindset to avoid any wild punches, I think. He knows that his chin is suspect and has been doing very well at protecting it as of late, this would be a very good fight but there is the stigma of 2 "old guys" going at it so it might not sell well. As a fan of boxing, I think it would be a damn good match and would be surprised if any on this forum would miss it despite what they might say pre-fight.
Ah good, the midget is injured again.
I admit there d is better with him in there.
He'd be a good fit for the Bears.
Cutler's on my fantasy team... so i wont hate much... but it's not looking good for the CareBears anymore with Urlacher gone for the season...
They beat the super bowl champs, so that makes them the lineal champs.
At least for this week.
when bob sanders comes back and the defense gets it together... the colts will be unstoppable...
Well the books didn't see it that way and my wallet got lighter.
Why couldn't he win convincingly against that fraud Taylor?
Everytime I think about that fight it pisses me off to no end.
Saying it was a robbery doesn't help.
Impress the judges at least once or twice.
He was hitting Taylor late, couldn't he have started, you know say before round 8 to start breaking him down, and imposing his "execution style" or whatever the fukk u call it.
The Bears suck.
Maybe if stupid Hop would've thrown more than 3 punches a round he wouldn't of cost me 400 bucks on the Taylor fight.
Some executioner, some will breaker.
Then he goes and loses again. Thank god I didn't bet a second time.
It wouldn't have hurt to wow the judges now and again Hop.
Emphasize that you are winning instead of piddling around and costing jreck money
Most know Hopkins beat Taylor. Anyone can see that Taylor landed much less, and hit nothing but air.
This is an inspired Street Bully masterpiece.
Green Kaye for you, you petty Ugandan dictator.
Btw, wasn't Mercado Ecuadorian?
Edit: crap, I must spread reputation around before giving it to Street Bully again!!!
:nonono:
Yes you are right, he is.
Further proof why so many of these Brit fans are a joke. Before you start, yes im from From Britain, but unlike some of these backward nationalists, i can think straight.
First of all, Hopkins was MW. DLH was LMW.
The bout was at 156lbs, more close to the 154 weight limit of Oscar.
End of discussion/
Hopkins has fought smaller and larger men. It balances out. When he was middleweight champion, he had some smaller hotshots come up and challenge him, but so has every other middleweight champion.
The Middleweight division has always been an enigma. The champs there are usually unheralded for the most part and they make their name(and Money) from the stars of welterweight who move up for some reason. The welterweights produce the stars and they eventually challenge the middleweight champ.
I would say Pavlik is actually bigger than Hopkins naturally, but just bit off more than he could chew. Hopkins fought a masterful fight and would never let Pavlik get set. Not only was there a gap in speed and talent, but I also don't think Pavlik can handle extra weight well.
Of course.
I just think Hopkins gets a lot of hate because of the kind of guy he is. Therefore certain people feel the need to potshot his accomplishments, while dismissing all of the other guys who have records similar to his.
Like I said, Hagler fought many more "small men" than Hopkins. But he gets a pass, because he's generally loved by everybody.
Paul Williams fights smaller men all the time, but nobody mentions it.
And what about guys who move up and win, but against less than stellar opposition?
Pacquiao got a hell of a lot of praise for beating David Diaz in his 135 debut. But honestly, Diaz was a paper Champion who should've lost his belt to the mummy of Erik Morales, and the weakest link in the division by far.
Shit look at Floyd, hasn't fought a single Welterweight in his entire career. Yet he fights at Welterweight. And has more groupies than a prime Jim Morrison. :lol1:
Lots of intangibles in this game of ours. And it seems like popularity plays as much a role as opposition.
ye i know what u mean, its easy to pick holes in any fighters record
but i think its more important to appreciate what a fighter has done rather than look at what they havent
hey im not hating hopkins is one of my favourite fighters just saying he is smart out of the ring as well as in the ring
Of course.

All of those guys stepping up were stepping up on their own accord.
Either they wanted a crack at Hopkins' belt at 160. (Tito, Oscar.)
They wanted a crack at getting a legend's name on their record. (Tarver, Wright.)
Or they wanted both a legend's name on their record, and a nice payday that they thought would be easy work. (Pavlik.)
It's not like Hopkins made any of those guys fight him.
They all came to him and challenged the throne.
Marvin Hagler fought a shitload of "small men" throughout his career, even more than Hopkins. But I never hear anyone peep about that.
I honestly think it's just Hopkins hate, that will all blow over in the years to come.
hey im not hating hopkins is one of my favourite fighters just saying he is smart out of the ring as well as in the ring
that glorified sparring session was his biggest payday no doubt.
I never said the fight was amazing.
But for such easy work, a nice name on his record, and millions of dollars ; who would pass that up?
Nobody.
