I want to be the first to make this statement because it is clear as day that the fight with Mayweather will not happen. Blame it on tickets, injury, or whatnot but it came down to threat recognition. I will gladly eat my words if the fight is rescheduled and does happen.
Also Manny's immediate request for Cotto after Saturday's showing makes me want to puke. I cannot see how in many eyes he will be boosted to a higher status when he beats Cotto (which he will he isn't the same but still good) why isn't he fighting Mosley or JMM guys who are hot just as he is SUPPOSED to be. Cotto is a cleary a B+ fighter. I hope this isnt hyped as another fight to settle something because it doesnt this list was made back in May and it still will stand the test. Notice Clottey didn't make this list.
1.Paul Williams
2.Juan Manuel Marquez
3.Chad Dawson
4.Vic Darchinyan
5.Winky Wright
6. Shane Mosley
7.Bernard Hopkins
8.Floyd Mayweather
9.Manny Pacquaio
10.Miguel Cotto
barely missed- Andre Berto- Limited competition but speed, agility, moderate power. If Mayweather is the 93

Mosley started out at 135 he skipped right to 147 and has went as high as 154...His best weight has always been 147 and right now he is considered to be the top WW in the world why would he go up in weight to meet Paul Williams? Paul Williams can make 147 he says he can then let him come down to 147 and fight Mosley for the title and the Ring title....Besides everyone knows that Mosley has nothing left toprove he is already a HOFer and right now at close to 40 he is looking for the cash cow which happens to be PACMAN.....He already took on what at the time was considered to be the biggest threat and the most feared fighter right? What happened to that guy? Got caught with loaded wraps then got his head wrapped in for him....IF Mosley does decide to fight Paul Williams and defeats him then what? He would have took out the two biggest and most feared boxers today and people will still say he is begging for a fight....he aint begging he deserves it.....LeftyReasons for Mosley to go and fight Paul Williams:
1. Mosley tried to get a third title in a third weight class before and succeeded against De La Hoya but only to lose to Wright. Williams holds the interim LightMiddleweight crown.
2. Mosley may have fought and beaten Margarito, who was dubbed as the most feared fighter in the division. But, he fought Margarito one year and four months after Williams had beatend Tony. Clearly, Williams was not among those who feard Margarito either. So, shouldn't two fighters who did not fear and won over Margarito get it on between themselves? (Note: Williams was a 6-5 underdog in the Margarito fight).
3. There appears to be more incentive in a LightMiddleweight fight between the two: Williams had been Welterweight champion before and is on track to be a full-fledged champ at LightMiddleweight. He has little reason to go back down to Welterweight. On the other hand, Shane still has something to prove at LightMiddleweight because his reign after winning several straps at that weight from De La Hoya was quickly abbreviated by Winky. Perhaps, he should look at the Williams fight as an opportunity. Can't winning an interim LightMiddleweight title be worth something especially if one considers widespread opinion that Williams is the most ducked fighter, post-Margarito?
4. It doesn't seem to me that if Mosley eyes a fight against Williams, he'll be said to be begging for a fight. I haven't heard of the Williams camp playing cute over the prospect.
5. If money is the only reason that Mosley is "begging" for a fight against Pacquiao instead of setting what may prove to be an easier match to make against Williams and one that can better enchance his already sterling accomplishments, then the objective speaks plainly and in volumes for itself.
I am not one to argue against money. I need some myself. However, if money is the sole reason for Pacquiao-Mosley, then I think that it should be sold as nothing more than a financial arrangement. Mosley's deserving to fight Pacquiao, after all, cannot be predicated on his having been at his best as a Welterweight if it is conceded that Pacquiao's only welterweight fight is against a way past his prime Oscar De La Hoya. It comes as fairly amusing to me to read that a bigger guy who has not fought at less than 146 lbs. in close to ten years, "deserves" a crack at a small guy whose highest weight to date, in any fight, was 145 lbs (vs. De La Hoya). If there should be anything that that bigger guy deserves, it should be a fight against someone his own size who is currently bandied about as the most ducked fighter around his division. The name of that guy is not Pacquiao. It's Paul Williams.
In my mind, if there's a anyone who has earned the right to fight Pacquiao, it's Juan Manuel Marquez. Again. This time, probably at 140 lbs.
Note: When Mosley moved from Lightweight to Welterweight in September 1999 and had Wilfredo Rivera as his first fight in that division, Paquiao was KO'd in the third round by Singsurat in a world Flyweight fight. When Mosley had his first LightMiddleweight outing against Raul Marquez in early 2003, Pacquiao was a SuperBantam clamoring for a fight against Barrera at Featherweight. From 2003 to 1006, Mosley fought in excess of the 147 lbs. limit while, in the same period, Pacquiao was moving through SuperBantam to SuperFeather. Pacquiao did not become a Lightweight until middle of last year a few months prior to Mosley's moving back to LightMiddleweight to face Mayorga after losing at Welterweight to Cotto.
I cannot see how a former LIghtMiddleweight multi-organization champ who now reigns as Welterweight could have earned the right to face a recent Jr. Welterweight champion who has never been a Welterweight champ of any region, much less of the world. If that former LightMiddleweight turned Welterweight world champion has earned anything, it is the right to face the current LightMiddleweight interim champion named Paul Williams, or some other champion in that division.
(In short, it is difficult for me to comprehend how a big world welterweight champion could be seen as having "deserved" to fight a small jr. welterweight champion in a meeting to be held at the big guy's weight class.)
Of Mosley's about one dozen fights since 2003, I do believe that only three were at Welterweight, i.e., Margarito, Cotto and Collazo. His other fights were at 148 lbs. or more; all beyond the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.
Mosley is a monster at 147 always has been. He was never as effective at 154. He is a big puncher with blazing speed and in his last fight improved defense. JMM should stay far away from Mosley he will get hurt. I truly think that Mosley could beat Williams maybe even knock him out. You are saying Tony The Cement Mixer margarito had a granite chin what about Mosley's chin? Do you think JMM's punches would bounce off it like rubber....Lefty
Marquez would be a fool to try and trade with Mosley. Marquez is a counter puncher with Mosley being the more straight forward and aggressive puncher. Even if Marquez lands shots on Mosley, I doubt they have any effect on Mosley. Mosley's been down once in his career coming from a wicked right hand followed by hooks from Vernon Forrest (a Jr Middleweight).
The only reason Marquez's name is even remotely involved with Mosley, Cotto, or Pacquiao is because he took a fight with Floyd. But I can guarantee you he doesn't attempt to take on another WW just for the sake of fighting them. He saw a big payday for him against Floyd.
Why is anybody taking the time to write a serious post about this topic.
Did you see the TS P4P list?
Yes I did and I saw his original P4P list and the thread he made about it. he has a warped train f thought process but he is not a child who curses you out because you disagree with him he actually tries to debate you and make logical points whether or not you see or agree with his logic remains to be seen none the less the thread is not that bad if you read through what some of the posters said here my man....Lefty
we havent seen mosley at 143 which would be the weight
We havent seen marquez past 135 either. As pointed out before he was on shaky legs against Diaz who is not considered a huge puncher Mosley would hurt him bad and early. I would make a thread that I feared for Marquez and his life would be in danger.....Lefty
Juan Diaz, who I don't see as a big puncher, had Marquez on wobbly legs early on in their fight.
You think there might be a possibility that Marquez himself at his age has taken too much punishment? But a fight with Mosley is a good fight for him to make?
Marquez saw dollar signs with Floyd (nothin more, nothin less). He'll see stars and the lights above the ring if he fought Mosley.

JMM stood Pac's best power, and now Pac stopping guys out above 140. think about that.

So people bitch at Floyd for fighting Marquez but are more than happy for Mosley (who is naturally bigger) to fight him. Says it all about some people
I do not think that Shane should fight JMM. I hate all these catch weight fights. I hated it since I heard Kelly Pavlik's corner tell him you are only losing the fight you still have the titles....Think about that it mind as well be an exibition for money fellas. No titles on the line nothing gets solved because P4P title is still a fictional title that can never be proved out. You can amke a case for Wlad to be P4P. How does that get solved does Pac bring a step stool in the ring with him for that fight. What is the catch weight there? If Pac wants to fight WW it should be at 147 or if they want that cash bad enough it should be at 140 for the titles....Lefty
Mosley and JMM will fight out of frustration and the running around of Pac and Floyd in which they will never fight either
Sort of like what almost happened last November when Clottey and Williams were going to get it on because they couldn't get fights with anyone else? I think if it comes to that it is sad. Mosley should just take on Berto and grab another belt for his trouble..JMM should call out Bradley and take a those titles at 140lbs....Force Manny into a fight with him or Manny will have to move up to a full WW 147.....Lefty
who bitches about floyd fighting him not me that is the purspose of this thread. I think that floyd saw mismatch in JMMs favor. He is too busy and his chin is up to par to be caught with one shot
Marquez - Mosley is a totally mismatch regarding size difference.
Mosley just knocked out a huge granite chinned welterweight in Margarito.
I wouldn't want to imagine what he would do to Marquez.
my thing is that Tony's stock stayed up as if there was an excuse for his loss so the fight with him and Marg. shouldnt have been. He was given a gift in Mosley which is why what played out played out. we will see about Berto
I agree the fight with Shane was close I think Shane waited to long to start pressuring him and if they fought again that Shane would beat him easily this time around. That is as long as Shane hasn't gotten old waiting around for a fight....
a contract was signed at 143 to fight Floyd which would top anything that Pac has done.
Big IF cause honestly I don;t think the fight is going to happen between Floyd and Pacquiao....Lefty
