fighters fight for money....boxing is where the money is.....i understand your point about wrestlers and grapplers though...chuck lidell is one of the best strikers in mma but do you seriosly think he'd be a top 15 in boxing in his weightclass.?....no way......boxing=tuxedo mma=t-shirt
Well of course boxing has more money in because it's been around longer. But that big money is for the big draws. Like Mayweather. While the top MMA guys don't get 20 million + a fight they still get a generous amount.
But as far as the undercard fighter I don't see that big a difference between boxing and mma unless I've been lied to.
hey Silva, being that you're obviously a bigger MMA fan than i might be, what's up with Kongo? when it comes to the UFC, i watch certain fighters and every so often someone will bust onto the scene (like Cain Velasquez) whom i assumed Kongo would beat. thing is, i rarely delve into the details of fighters or their fight history. was Cain that bad? or was Kongo a bit overrated?
It was more like Cain was overrated and Kongo fought stupid. The UFC hyped Cain up so much as being a savage standing and a great wrestler.
Kongo knocked him down with one punch and Cain wanted nothing to do with the stand-up and took him down and won a boring decision. Kongo has ZERO ground game. Kongo could have put the dude away at the beginning of each round but refused to play it safe and keep the distance and pick his shots and got taken down and controlled. After all Kongo could easily compete in K-1 with how good his striking is. But he has no wrestling and with the HW division of the UFC comprised of mostly wrestlers and grapplers, he's probably never going to get a shot at the title much less win it.
also, i know MMA fans defend fighters poor records when, for instance, someone has 12 W and 8 L with 1 draw. Everyone fights everyone, and they fight more times a year than a Boxer so the chances of losing are greater, right? or so i was told.
Styles make fights. Some fighters match-up with other fighter better or they match-up terribly. The diversity makes it interesting.
My favorite fighter Wanderlei silva doesn't have too much of an impressive record as of late but he comes in the cage to put on exciting fights and that's why he has such a large fan base.
Who in your opinion, of the up and comers do you think is legit? I think if Fedor can manage to have a good record, and guys like Machida can remain undefeated, don't you think that blows the whole argument out of the water?
It's hard to say who is the next big up and comer because the sport is still rapidly growing and there are so many promising guys. But then big prospects will get into the big leagues and they'll either choke or be completely outclassed.
Not sure what you mean about Fedor and Machida...
How can you compare the 2...its like saying who has a higher I.Q... footballers (soccer) or Rugby players....
Your gonna have boneheads in either group...and then the intelligent people...
This cant even be done. If you choose any one side, your biased automatically.
IQ is strictly based on a person. I would say Mayweather's IQ would be way bigger than Joe Stevenson's. Just as I would say Fedor's or GSP's IQ is way bigger than Zab Judah's.
It just depends on the person, you can't say "Boxing IQ is bigger than MMA." Its totally different things and IQ depends on the person anyways.

let's face it man, theres' more money in boxing than in ufc....the main reason why fighters fight in ufc is because they know they dont have a bright future in boxing......
That's a retarded analogy that I hear too much.
Did you ever figure that more people get into MMA because there is no other avenues for competition and financial benefit for Wrestlers or Grapplers other than ADCC or the Olympics?
No.
Chuck Liddell developed these so called "speech patterns" during his tear as LHW champion...I find it was more due to his heavy drug and alcohol use then being punched.
These are 3 fighters in your mind that are brain damaged.
How many is that compared to boxing? I can't even understand James Toney when he talks
3 of the 10 or 15 biggest stars in MMA history does not look good. Couture and Ken Shamrock are not done fighting but getting up in years and that may make it 5. MMA is a young sport and has yet to see the effects of lifelong mma fighters. There will be deaths during UFC matches. There will be permantly disabled fighters. I'm not hoping this happens, the exact opposite actually, but it's going to happen whether you like to admit it or not.
I assume you will continue to deny it like you blame alcohol for Liddell's stuttering and slurring, even when he's sober, and like you don't think Wanderlei is brain damaged.
Yea, the college wrestlers, who tend to be the dumbest of all athletes. See Chuck Liddell. (There are a few exceptions like Couture).
The Klitschko's are more educated than all elite mma fighters.
Jeff Monson - PhD in Psychology
Terry Martin - studying to be a PhD in Psychology
Rich Franklin - masters in education
Carlos Newton - pre-medicine and is a linguist
Tank Abbot - Bachelors in History
Roger Huerta- Attending College for Business Management
Joe Lauzon- Bachelors Degree in Computer Networking
should I keep going?
didnt Rich Franklin just beat him. he's the next Liddell, i guess.
anyways im sure there are plenty of guys in both sports that have an education. whether or not they have careers to fall back on when their fighting days are over, im not sure. I know the Klitschko's have PHD's, which is impressive, but im not aware of any other champions are top ranked fighters accomplishments outside the ring. it's actually pretty interesting.
Silva is brain damaged. Only a fool or someone who doesn't want to accept it would deny it. Him not being able to speak english well has nothing to do with it.
No.
Liddell also has recieved brain damage. If you don't believe it check his speech patterns over the last few years and it has changed a lot.

Nogueira is on his way to severe brain damage also.

Ur an idiot. Silva isn't damaged his engligh is just terrible. If you ever talked to Wanderlei you'd know.

Either way it's dumb to compare the two.
But yet you don't hesitate to do it
Strange that your username is Wanderlei Silva, a guy who sadly will be speaking like Meldrick Taylor in a few years, yet you speak to the safety of mma.

Speaking on long term damage to the brain. Boxers who take repeated shots to the head, get knocked down, get back up and take more punishement are more prone to brain damage.
Whereas a Mixed Martial Artist doesn't have the option to get back up once he's been knocked down.
Being MMA is more dynamic there is more than one option than to just punch the other guy in the face as many times as you can or so hard you knock them unconcious.

But a large percentage of Mixed Martial Artists have College Degrees.

gotta go with boxing. MMA guys for the most part are bonehead jocks that listen to heavy metal and drink beer bongs at parties. At least that's the way UFC presents itself to be.
LOL. Ur a retard.
I guess Zab Judah, Antonio Margarito, and scumbags like Don King and Jared Shaw are model representatives for your sport huh.
Let me guess the only MMA fighter you know of is Kimbo Slice.
I don't know if this is serious or not.
