I don't like Valuev, I know he isn't a very hard puncher for his size and perhaps wasn't the best example of a Chagaev opponent. But he does have a better career KO ratio than Muhammed Ali and Larry Holmes and he is ranked by BoxRec, IBO, The Ring and elsewhere as a current top five heavyweight.
Its funny youre stating his KO ratio as an argument for his "power". This argument would only be valid if they faced the same opposition. I think its safe to say Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali faced greater opposition Valuev has faced or probably will ever face. Ali and Holmes would probably toy with today's heavyweights with the exception of Wlad and Vitali
The funiest thing about this thread is why compare Tua's chin with Chaegev's when they both fought the same man and the results are pretty obvious. Every ****wit in this thread needs a medal.
*Cue the "Tua was young....blah blah blah" bullshit*
Bunch of pretenders.
Chagaev seems to have a good chin. Sprott and Virchis both hit him a bit and he was unfazed. Yeah, I read Sprott interview, and he said he hit Chagaev flush with uppercut and all power he's got. Chagaev didn't even flinch. Same man Sprott put Audley Harrison in babysleep with single left hook...
Yeah Tunney, you're looking foolish with trying to make Valuev credible. You even cited his KO record. Valuev didn't fight anyone with any experience until almost 35 fights into his career. He started and thrived as a circus freak sideshow attraction who was fed people specifcially for him to beat. He improved later in his career and was able to stay a little competitive with better fighters, but he has no ability to hurt them. Ettienne had one of the most fragile chins possible at 200+. Valuev brings nothing to the table in terms of knockout ability.
Chagaev seems to have a good chin. Sprott and Virchis both hit him a bit and he was unfazed. Just... don't bother waving your white power flag when it comes to Valuev. It is counterproductive.
Valuev's only loss.
Well, Valuev stopped a younger, better version of Monte Barrett than your beloved Haye. And he is 50-1, with wins over people like Entienne (KO) McCline, etc. Valuev looked as old as Holyfield in the fight, men that size usually age prematurely.
Valuev only fought him 2 years before Haye. Also taking 6 rounds longer and losing some rounds against him.
Out of Valuev's last 5 fights, 3 of them have been either an SD or MD, ****ing laughable, and he hasn't scored a stoppage win for 29 Months, and that stoppage was McCline quitting with a knee injury.
Valuev is such a bum it's not even funny

Why on earth are you defending Valuev? He is a joke. He clearly lost to Holyfield andLarry Donald (only to have the judges wrest victory from the hands of his opponents) one can logically argue that Ruiz won their first fight and McCline was the better man until he knee blew out (you really can't count that as a legitimate win). Valuev has a decent jab and an amazing chin, plus heighth. Thats why he has gone as far as he has, but he is the heavyweight version of Sven Ottke in the judging department.
I agree with Paul, Chagaev has not really earned the moniker "iron chinned" nor has he earned the knickname "White Tyson" for that matter. And I that's a legitimate point to make. I don't ever remember seeing Chagaev getting hit that hard by any of his opponents although I did not see the Virchis fight.
whether you all like Tunney or not, and his Valuev punching comment is retarded, Chagaev has a granite chin. We know this because A) he is slow, and B) Yes Felix Sasov hit him and such, so what, amatuers. Really it's based off of Vladimir Virchis. Virchis is the hardest puncher the heavyweights have seen since Eddie Shavers. Vitali has stated that he has never been hit so hard, same thing Sprott said (even though I thought Sprott beat him) and his recorded punch actually broke the measuring machine. The problem with Virchis is he is so slow that he doesn't land flush, and that he lacked the skills to set up his shots where he couldn't get that right hand on you. But Chagaev has no clue on how to move his head, so Virchis found his chin a few times. Taras Bidenko refused to fight Virchis again even though he was beating his ass until he was caught with one shot and was laid out. He didn't want the pain anymore. Chagaev does have peripheal vision issues though. He can't see well in the bottom spectrum of his eyesight. Meaning, he doesn't see well in the clinch nor uppercuts coming. Luckily, Wlad has never thrown an uppercut, and can't fight on the inside.
Correction: he couldn't HIT a 46 year old ATG heavyweight.
Correction: he couldn't HIT a 46 year old man who was coming off a loss and hadn't fought in 14 months.
And Chagaev has a MD over this guy, damn, he really must be great.
Yeah, I mean, he may well have a decent chin. But to compare it to a guy like Tua's: a guy who took hundreds of bombs from some of the biggest hitters in the division? You really are a comedian at times, Tunney.
Felix Savon
Vladimir Virchis, big puncher, caught Ruslan flush
Nicolay Valuev, who has a higher KO ratio than Ali. :)
Why can't you stand to see Wlad get any credit? Do you hate white boxers?
You were predicting Gomez would beat Vitali, what happened in that one?
Hahahahahaha, He couldn't even KO a ****ing 46 year old man.
the same guy saying chagaev has an "iron chin" thinks vitali hits harder than foreman and thinks wlad is better skilled than ali.

There is all u need to know
I've heard a lot of talk about this recently.
There is no comparison between Tua and Chagaev's ability to take punishment, Tua took severe punishment from some of the biggest punchers of the 1990's while Chagaev has hardly taken a solid punch on the chin throughout his career.
