... and I have to say, all you mugs claiming that Cotto was a coward in this fight must be confused individuals.
I've just seen the Cotto corner after the 3rd round, and the fact this one went 12 is beyond me.
Seriously, I was gutted when he got cut. I thought there was no way in Hell the fight gets past round 6
My thoughts exactly, and i was impressed that Cotto actually seemed to have the same thing on his mind, cause he stormed on Clottey for the next 2 rounds like he thought they were gonna stop the fight. Amazing job by his cut man taking care of that brutal cut.
I'm watching the fight for a 6th time haha...The compubox numbers seem way of too me. Just watched the 6th round, and I did not see Clottey land 25 punches in that round....hell, I didn't see him throw 58.
Compubox is very, very flawed.
you just realized that?!?......Hopkins-Calzaghe told me that

definitely no coward in my book.....he gets mad props from me, cuz i wouldn't have blamed him for having the fight stopped, but he fought on, and was getting tagged cleanly by clottey.
cotto is every bit of the warrior he's made out to be.......but he lost the fight.
Cotto Show heart in that fight, but i wish i would throw more, when he got clottey in the corner and started to swing away and then back off i was so pissed i guess he justgas out or something:boxing:
I call that being smart for he couldn't see out of his eye ffs! Clottey's defense was on display that night and IMO, nobody will look good fighting Clottey. Shane would have trouble too against him. I used to refer to Clottey as a poor mans Winky, but his defense was great that night.

If you weren't scoring the fight, and went off momentum, there was a definite point in which Clottey's determination and skill were combining to make it look like victory was certainly his. Miguel was looking bothered by the cut, Joshua was getting through his guard, and Clottey's defense was allowing him to open up on Cotto when he chose, not having to worry as much about the punches coming his way.
All in all, though, when you score it I think Cotto got away with a close one. One of those razor-thin, could go either way, type of decisions. The sort where you instantly knew people would yell, 'robbery' even though either guy could've really walked away with a 115-114 type of score.
Cotto, for me, might very well have won the battle but lost the war. He kept his belt, got the 'W' but Clottey was one who gained more star power in that fight. Cotto, expected to win and on an elite level, will not be pleased to see the wire-thin victory against a guy who, in a loaded division, isn't necessarily a top-tier win. Clottey, on the other hand, can now argue he performed better than division elite Mosley against Cotto, and point to his performance to line up some notable future opponents.
Mosley has a good right hand, and barely landed it on Cotto. :?!:
what?!?!?!? did you watch the fight?!?........all Shane landed was over hand rights......ALL night long!!!
I feel you my dude.......but HOW could anybody possibly know that Clottey STILL wouldn't have landed those right hands.........Cotto gets tagged alot.......by what? right hands and uppercuts........you KNOW I think Cotto is a BEAST but he cant defend for shit my dude.......thats my point.
Mosley has a good right hand, and barely landed it on Cotto. :?!:
Calm down.
If you cant see how he deducted that then you need to rethink.
If you dnt have a eye, you dont see from that side, meaning anything comming from that side you wont say, and it will hit you. If you have that eye, you can see anything comming from that side, and you can block or dodge anything comming your way. Thats how shit works !!!!!!!

I always thought that choosing to fight clottey was crazy. Cotto should've fought floyd or pacman before Clottey. Clottey is crazy and VERY hard to knock down or knockout. Why do you think pacman, mosley, hopkins or floyd are avoiding Clottey. No way Margarito fights Clottey again. Leave CLOTTEY ALONE WELTERWEIGHTS !
Yes.. Pacman and B-Hop are very much avoiding Clottey..
What I don't understand is how can anyone hate Cotto? How can anyone hate Clottey? How can anyone hate Pacquiao? How can anyone hate Paul Williams? How can anyone hate Marquez? How can anyone hate Pavlik or Froch? etc...
They are fighters who will go above and beyond and fight anyone. They are true fighters and it sickens me that some will use ethnicity blindingly in a way to downgrade an opponent. There should be more boxing fans here. Not fans of bloodlines.
no one hates cotto. everyone hates those ricans (not all ricans) that think cotto is invincible. cotto is very very vulnerable.
says who?!?!.......or this is your own 2 pennies?!?.......how the phuck could anyone know something like that?!?......I need to phuckin' know!!!!
If you can't see out of your left eye with a giant cut over it, how will you see all the right hands coming? Shit, when you have an eyelash in your eye, it bugs the shiiit out of you and you can't see clearly. Now imagine it's a pint of blood in there. It's common sense man.
Clottey is known for headbutts and lead his billy goat head into Cotto in the third. I'm not certain that it was accidental at all.
I'm not so sure about that. Without the cut, Clottey would not have landed all those right hands, and Cotto would have gotten more rounds.
says who?!?!.......or this is your own 2 pennies?!?.......how the phuck could anyone know something like that?!?......I need to phuckin' know!!!!
Cotto won a very, very close fight. Cotto clearly won rounds 1, 4, 6, and 12. Clottey clearly won rounds 5, 7, 8, 9. Rounds 2,3, 10, and 11 were closer, but I thought Cotto edge Clottey in rounds 3 and 11 (in the 11 they both landed the same amount of punches, 19, but Cotto was much more active and landed the harder punches). I gave Clottey rounds 2 and 10 (in the 10, Clottey outlanded Cotto but Cotto landed the only significant punch of the round). I had Cotto winning 114-113. However, rounds 2, 3, 10, and 11 could have gone either way. That's why even though I didn't score it that way, I think that even the 116-111 is plausible if the judge gave Cotto all the close rounds
Agreed with everything apart from the end. 116-111 I can't see. That would mean giving Cotto round 2 and 10. Or maybe 9 which he could have stolen if he let go on Clottey with his back to the corner.
Seriously, I was gutted when he got cut. I thought there was no way in Hell the fight gets past round 6
Seriously man. This is what I've been saying. Clottey's stretch from the 7th to the 9th was dominant, it was the most dominant either fighter looked at any stretch of the fight(I guess beside Cotto in the 6th). That stretch is where the disparity in the compubox numbers happened, and it's also the stretch that gave people the feel that Clottey won.
But for better or worse, you don't get more points for dominating a round as opposed to edging a round out. That's just boxing. That's why it felt like Collazo beat Berto, cause there were like 3 rounds there where Collazo threw over a 100 punches and dominated, but Berto was winning rounds. This was the same thing. Clottey was overall more impressive, but when using the scoring boxing uses, Cotto edged it by the knockdown. I can see 114-113 being for either fighter, but I gave it to Cotto and feel confident in that after seeing it 5 times as well.
And this fight is very different without that cut. Believe that.
I agree the cut had a big impact. More so than Clottey's bogus knee injury.
I have to disagree with how can anyone hate Clottey?
Clottey acted like a little girl Saturday...when he fell and complained about his knee..when Cotto barellllyy jab the back of his head and he fell on the floor holding his head from so much "pain"...dude acted like a clown in my opinion.
did u see how the ref acted when he did go down..lol..
If Cotto is smart he will stay away from a rematch with Clottey.
I'm not so sure about that. Without the cut, Clottey would not have landed all those right hands, and Cotto would have gotten more rounds.
I've seen the fight four times now (I'm a freak), and I still just can't agree with shouts of robberry. I think it's pretty ridiculous actually. The main problem is, Clottey's best rounds 7-9 were clear rounds which he landed clean effective punches. That leaves an impression overall, but those rounds count the same as the 3rd round that Cotto edged by the skin of his teeth. It's just how boxing works.
