The Monday After Poll! I know we've had similar threads already, but now it's Monday, and we've all had a chance to watch replays. Take a step back from the excitement of the fight and really lend an objective eye to the situation. Personally I had them splitting the back 6 rounds and Cotto winning the first half by a point b/c of the knockdown. There are a lot of folks going on about real boxing fans know Clottey won, but I have a feeling the majority actually believes Cotto won by a hair. Poll to follow please discuss.
I expected it to be ruled a draw. But somebodybob doesn't want to see that fight again.
In earlier responses on this thread, some posters said this thread would need to be bumped for the non morning crowd to make sure everyone gets their votes in. Alright afternoon crowd, do you work!
I lost respect for Clottey Saturday night. I never knew he was such a cry baby. And what was up with Emmanuel Steward? Dude was jocking Clottey to the fullist..I think he even said at around round 8, that the only round Cotto won was round 1?...anywaayyysssss.
I thought Cotto won a 114-113 fight...I definitely enjoyed it.
I say this.
Clottey doesn't deserve to win because he new what was at stake and let left his faith in the judges hand. Cotto doesn't deserve to win because he he let Clottey back into fight after the knock down. It should be a draw and know one walks away with a lost.
The fight is scored off conecting shots period. Looking at the fight again, and looking at the connecting shots, I gave it to Clottey. You can't give a fighter a round just because it was little to know action. I don't care how bizzy a fighter is, if he's not connectiong you shouldn't give him points. I don't believe boxing is scoring arm punches. I gave cotto the 1st, hard to score the 6th and gave him the 12. Thats just going of what I seen. Another thing the side live team was saying. When Cotto was getting beat most of the round and end it with a good shots, the was saying (Maybe Cotto stole that round) Off of one good shot, Please. I thought it was, who ever landed the most punches.
Thats my thoughts on that. They have the fight on Youtube.
You pretty much nailed it. I also felt Clottey risked his win by letting it go to the cards knowing full well that Cotto is the house favorite.
At one point in the fight, I thought Clottey hurt his hand again after hitting Cotto then stepping back as if to admire the shot. Can't recall the round.
I thought Clottey would turn up the heat in the mid rounds, but he instead resorted to whining tactics hoping the ref would take a point off Cotto.
Clottey did not impress me at all.
I was rooting for Cotto, but there is no way I can say he won.
Joshua had the more effective punches and did more total damage. He looked like he could have gone another 12 if need be whereas Miguel was more than happy it wasn't a 15 rounder.
There is a reason why it took longer than usual to tally up the cards.
They had to sort out the rounds to give Cotto the victory.
I was disappointed in the official outcome as it seemed pretty clear to me as to who the victor was.
I scored the fight 114-113 for Cotto both times I watched the fight, the 10th round was a very, very close round for me, the closest of the fight but I thought Cotto stole it with those 2 big left hooks right before the bell, he kept himself in the round throughout.

Here's a link to Dan Rafael's card and Atlas' analysis. Rafael may have gone a little overboard.. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4257215

If you score the fight round by round, ignoring the Compubox stats, you should have Cotto as the winner, because fights aren't scored on who lands more, that's the amateur system of scoring, if we are going to score fights like that we better get Cotto and Clottey some headgear and the gloves with the with stripe, but like I said fights are won by who wants it more and who proves that, Clottey said he wanted it more but in the end he didn't prove that because he did nothing down the stretch in the championship rounds.
This is what I said earlier in thread. You have to score round by round. Not cumulative totals. If I'm not mistaken, Dan Rafael had it 116-111. He might be a jackass as well.

Im with this guy. You have to convincingly beat the champ and clottey didnt do that, he let cotto stay in the fight with the bloody eye and all. Cotto stayed in the fight with his bloody eye.
It's 10 in the morning... that's really hard to ignore
I'll make sure to bump this again later, but what different group will be on later that would have an effect on these results?

i think what got some people mad is the wide 116-111. that score is simply ridiculous if the scores would have been closer i bet you a lot less people will be arguing about cotto victory today. btw i had it 114-113 Cotto. clottey didnot do anything in the last 2 rds :boxing:
Cotto won. 32 74.42%
Clottey won. 8 18.60%
Draw. 3 6.98%
Damn 74.42, That's really hard to ignore.

You realise it's early in the morning and the people who probably
thought Clottey won won't be on till later on if at all today, etc etc.
Your basing the entire poll on whoever is awake or not at work, in class,
or sleep this time of the day LOL.
Anyhow.. Clottey did more imo.
Cotto won 1, 3, 6, 11, 12. Not enough to win.
Usually in a close fight the winner of 11 and 12 takes it. Judges love that shit.
