I didn't listen to the clowns during the broadcast. only afterwards. 115-113 Cotto.
Rd 1. Cotto very slow, Very very slow. Clottey has soft hand and fast but terrible footwork . Knock down was legit
Cotto - 10 Clottey - 8
Rd 2. Clottey crisper faster punches. Once again his foot work is less than impressive. Cotto still slow. but seems to be coming to.
Cotto - 9 Clottey - 10
Rd 3. Cotto much better, seems to be getting warmed up. The cut is bad. Clottey seems to be turning onto Cotto on holds. Clottey had a good round. But i think Cotto still had a bit better
Cotto -10 Clottey -9
Rd 4. Clottey going after the eye pretty quick. Clottey going after a very nasty cut. Nonstop after cut. Don’t blame him. The cut is making a big impact on Miguels game. Cotto is way more urget, faster harder , punches more accurate. Hit harder Close round, I would give it to Cotto .
Cotto- 10 Clottey- 9
Rd. 5. Clottey rights connecting. Clottey’s footwork is just not good, no real movement. Clottey comes off as the kind of person that would quit on a cut like Cotto’s. Anything to win.
Cotto- 9 Clottey- 10
Rd. 6. Cotto wins easy. Clottey does nothing but the turtle shell. more of these punches that are supposedly blocked are getting through. Clottey looks gassed.
Cotto- 10 Clottey- 9
Rd. 7. Clottey easily wins the round Cotto just kinda moving and back pedaling. Clottey looks fast but punches are soft.
Cotto- 9 Clottey- 10
Rd. 8. Clottey doing more of the same. Cotto’s eye is just not looking good.
Cotto- 9 Clottey- 10
Rd. 9. Clottey has a half oa round but Cotto seems to be getting a second wind.
Cotto- 9 Clottey- 10
Rd. 10. Clottey peppers Cotto with a bunch of fast punches but nothing significant. Cotto has more significant punches. Depending how you watch this round it could really go either way. Depending if you favor volume over quality.
Cotto- 10 Clottey- 9
Rd. 11. I had it for Cotto but could easily go to Clottey. I would say very similiar to the 10th. Quality vs Volume. Cotto has his running shoes but more or less Cotto is not like he was against Margarito. He was not broken. as a matter a fact, it seems like the second half of the round he was fresher than Clottey.
Cotto- 10 Clottey- 9
Rd. 12. Cotto. I don’t think Clottey came off very champion like to the judges when complaining about a grazing punch, and a not so significant low blow in the 12th round. Look like he was looking for a point or just cheap. as a judge I would look at it like this guy had every opportunity to win, His opponent was easily vulnerable, cut eye, recent devastating defeat, etc.. Cotto easily won the 12th. better slicker and actually looked fresher to me.
Cotto- 10 Clottey- 9
Stewart is an idiot. Kellerman was right on about the 116-111 scoring. but I think Cotto won the fight.
intangables.
if Cotto would have not been cut I thiink Clottey would have been broken down and destroyed.
Cotto’s has answered any questions about his heart.
Also when interviewed after the fight, it was easy to see that the cut was very very bad.
The excuses about the shoes were silly. Cotto has better shoes? Clottey is not as sound a boxer as I thought. He should have taken the fight by the horns but instead he was looking for excuses to win the fight for him.
Paquio vs Cotto. hard to tell. can Pacman hurt Cotto? can Cotto slow pacman down? hard to tell. I think the bigger questions is , can pacman hurt him. if not then Cotto should win because if Cotto can walk thru Pacmans punches then Pac will eventually get hit.
3 times now i've watched it
114-113 Clottey everytime. it's not even arguable to me, but whatever.
and no, stewart isn't an idiot. He saw what I saw.. Clottey blocking beautifully and putting on a decent technical display in the early going, but falling short in 11 and 12. i don't see how cotto wins more than 5 to be honest, i thought there was only 1 spin round, the 11th, and i gave it to cotto.
Gotta forgive me, I can't give rounds to people for being active but hitting nothing but gloves. Defense is a part of boxing too. I can't help but see a whole lot of wright/taylor in this fight.
Also, i disagree that a uncut cotto would have dominated. An uncut cotto was the reason clottey was winning, he kept resetting his feet, and leaning into uppercuts. I always told people that cotto wins this fight on the outside, by using his bike. Him being cut is what forced him to use his bike, and what sealed the deal. It was actually a blessing in disguise. had he not been cut, it would have been more counter uppercuts by clottey.
I just finished watching the fight and your OP is spot on. I had Clottey winning 114-113 based on clean effective punching. Cotto was a bit busier but Clottey shell was very good. But mad props to Cotto, He's an old school fighter;Huge heart and determination and doesn't look for the easy way out or smart way out depending on your perspective. If I were his trainer I would've definitely gone to the cards. As far as Clottey, he's inactivity cost him the opportunity of a life time. I know Clottey is a defensive minded fighter but when the opportunity is presented he has to go for the kill. He should have easily won this fight after Cotto sustained the cut, if it were the other way around Cotto would have stopped him. To get a better view of a close fight we should all watch the fight a second time with the sound muted and a fraction of the speed decreased that way you wont be swayed by the commentators biased or unbiased perspective. It also helps to slow down the video enough to more clearly see whether punches connected or were blocked because these fighters punch at such a rapid pace that it is very hard to see every single punch specially when you are usually more focused on what the fighter your rooting for is doing. That's why most sports support instant replay because even trained official can't get everything right. With all that being said this is my scorecard

114-113 Cotto
Some of these rounds I hesitated at the end who I gave it too.
We need a rematch...
And you had it for Clottey at first too right? This is one of the hardest fights I can remember to score. Anyway your card look similar to mine except I gave the 10th to Clottey and 11th to Cotto.
I think that Cotto would have won the fight much easier if he was not cut. Also I think they knew that Clottey would likely cut them with a head butt. He just has a big head. I think Cotto showed me that he is willing to fight the best. make no excuses and can even win with the odds against him. I mean that cut was very bad. No one has every legitimately beat Clottey and it would be difficult to do and look good. I wish there were more fighter willing to fight anyone they throw in front of him. Props to clottey but he did let me down with the complaints and crybaby antics.
In a rematch with no cut I see Cotto easily winning.
