Very well spoken fella considering what his been through. My mum walked out on me when i was young too, so i can understand party what he has been through in many respects.
Fair play to him for doing something positive with his life when it could have easily gone the other way like it did for me because i went off the rails for a bit when my mum didn't want nothing to do with me anymore.
When I first heard about Ortiz they told me was being hyped up by GBP to become the next generation's DLH. When I heard his story I was suprised by how friendly and composed he is under the circumstances he's been living in. Ortiz is something special, it is likely kids with an upbringing like his are to fit their parents' shoes, but he seems to be driven by becoming exactly the opposite
Aside from that Ortiz is a good fighter and I do think he's ready for that title shot.
I like him in the ring, but I haven't seen many interviews with him. I was surprised how well spoken he was. That's where you get a mega cross-over superstar appeal from. Boxers who can talk with their fists AND keep your attention with their mouths. Let Ortiz win a few more good fights and then, I say, throw him around on the media-circuit to talk shows or whoever else will book him. He'll make you want to watch him fight with stories like that.
I hope to watch Ortiz have a long, great career. (Think he was in the corner of the cat who won the main event on Fight Night Club last night during the intros.)
Vic has got serious skills (and that Taco Bell shout-out he gave on HBO after his last fight was pretty funny.)
I usally don't fall for this tug at your heart strings crap HBO trys to pull....But you have to honestly be in this kids corner.
I just find it kinda lame that they try to use sentimental emotion to try to garner people into watching.
I couldn't agree more. I think it's all bullshit to try and get the fans to follow this kid. I grew up with kids in the barrio that mothers were murdered, fathers in prison and they had to live inthe streets. Where is there story????
No diss to Ortiz, I love the kid as a fighter but everyone has their bones to bare if you know what I mean.
Shit, my father left us and then i saw my mother die right in front of my face when I was 8.....but I still know that people in this world have it 100X worse than I do.
I'm glad the kid is doing well but his story is nothing new or special in this world we live in.
But lemme ask you this, why is it such a terrible thing to grow up without parents. I'm pretty sure if you took an American poll survey, half the kids wouldn't want their parents around.
Yeah sure it's tough out there in the concrete jungle, but without parents you can pretty much do whatever the fcuk you want. I'm not falling for the sad story, instead i'm commending Ortiz for growing up without parents and making it this far.
you are a moron every kid needs parents to many test out there that prove this, look at Victor Ortiz i got the feeling in his mind nothing he does will ever be enough. the man is sick in his mind it wasnt the slaps that did him in it was his dad telling him you ant going to be s**t in life
I usally don't fall for this tug at your heart strings crap HBO trys to pull....But you have to honestly be in this kids corner.

Definitely, i think they started doing it more after the success of the first season of The Contender.
Seems like a nice guy though, gonna watch a couple of his fights.
he's very matured for his age....kid is fun to watch...
dont have much choice when u grow up without parents taking their responsibility.
i never knew all this, never really knew much about ortiz or been interested in him. now no doubt i like him, not just cuz i feel bad for him but bcuz he seems very intelligent. add that to his exciting style and he will be great for the sport of boxing. wish him all the best.
Ortiz is a very good DEVELOPING prospect, I see the next Fernando Vargas in him, I would keep him away from top top competition for now. with each fight he gets better and better and becoming more confident.
Sounds like he had a very tough up-bringing it's great to see him doing so well I hope him the best in the future. Thanks for the video mrpain81. :beerchug:
