Manny Pacquiao has decided to stay in the Philippines instead of attending Friday night’s Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) banquet at the Capitale in New York. Pacquiao was interviewed by a TV network and his handlers confirmed that the pound-for-pound king has opted to remain in the country and go on a vacation instead in Bohol or Dakak, two well-known local destinations. The BWAA named Pacquiao as Fighter of the Year for 2008, the second time Pacquiao will get the award after being voted in 2006. Pacquiao was on hand when he got the 2006 award at the Copacabana, also in New York. Pacquiao will also miss Saturday night’s big fights featuring prospective foe Miguel Cotto at the Madison Square Garden. Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Mike Koncz said in a text message Tuesday night that he will instead fly to New York to accept the BWAA award “on Pacquiao’s behalf.” Koncz said he hasn’t talked with Top Rank head Bob Arum about Pacquiao’s decision “but I left message on his phone.” Koncz said Pacquiao cited family commitments as reason for his decision not to go. In the event Pacquiao makes a last-minute decision to go, he can still make it to the Big Apple if he leaves Manila on Friday morning via Northwest Airlines. Owing to the time difference, Pacquiao will arrive there on the same day.
Is he scared???
Nice avatar, I grew up in the projects right next to hers, "Bronx Dale!"
P.S. I know where you live & I want all my e-points after Cotto KO's Clottey!
Lol! cool. Ill give u xtra if he kos clottey!
I mean it's pretty obvious for Pacquiao, you either drain the crap out of Cotto and Mosley to 142 and add tarnished wins to your resume or you fight them at 147 and get knocked out early.
Fight Mayweather, who can get down to 142 with ease, and it would not only add the best name to your resume if you won (which he won't), but it's also the most even fight, physically, for him.
WOW! Amazing!
You figured it all out because of an article saying Pac isn't going to NY after all. That must have been good weed you've been smoking, pass it!
Pacman's life is chaotic from the get-go, this is nothing new...
Well the event on friday where they are giving him an award for fighter of the year has something to do with him.
he could show up for the award and not attend the fight.
as a boxing fan... im trying to understand how this will affect on a possible fight with cotto if he gets by clottey.
is not like the event is gonna do better or worst with him being there...
I think if pac said he'll be there, some pinoys might come out too.
but
maybe pac is just tired and want to be relaxed @ home......
or just making some tactical moves following his advisors.... or some shit like
that....maybe they think it would give him a better position in negotiation which for me doesnt seem necessary.
all are possibilities.
im thinking hes just creating some expectation... not that hes scared or anything.. i think he will be there.
I think he might skip it. there was an article a week ago that said pac wanted to go vacation in australia and the trip to NY would ruin that.

Haha, Pac being scared. Why say such a ridiculous thing?
He just knows he's the man, he doesn't have to scout shit right now. I think if anything, this just means him and his team don't see Cotto as a viable opponent and are gonna concentrate on either Mayweather or 140.

yep, mosley and cotto are just too big for pac. mosley can cotto are basically MWs on fightnight and pac is a WW on fight night.
its a mismatch with the catchweight.
Fight Mayweather, who can get down to 142 with ease, and it would not only add the best name to your resume if you won (which he won't), but it's also the most even fight, physically, for him.
yep, floyd atleast is a small WW.
I think so as well, the real reason, he's not showing up is because he saw some of the Cotto's outdoor video workout and said to himself, I want no part of that.
lolz, you mean that light work out?
cotto wasn't even working hard. why would pac fear that?
No need to scout a fighter, I won't be fighting and besides Arum wants that fight not me. Poor Arum, if and when Cotto wins, he has no leverage in re-signing Cotto. GBP, here comes COTTO! :boxing:
the cotto/pac fight was always an Arum plan to keep cotto in his stable. saying pac is scare of cotto is ignorant.
the cotto pac fight is arum trying to sucker cotto in to staying with top rank.that is all it is.he knows may pac is the fight where he'd make a ton of money in.anuybody who thought it was actually going to happen is a fool.
exactly! and fools that think pac is scared of cotto actually bought into arum's hype machine and promotional prowess.
Good!
Now we can get Cotto/PW or Cotto/Stalking Shane Mosley!
Plz fight PW! U already beat the Stalker.
Assuming he wins like most think except me!
If he does lose we will get Clottey vs PW for sure! Thats too much money for Clottey to turn down.

Is he Qscared???
Scared of what? Or should I say, scared of who???
Pac wont be fighting cotto. He is either going to fight mosley or mayweather.

Pac needs to attend this event.
why? it has nothing to do with him.
He's the face of boxing now.
that doesn't mean he has to be at every boxing event.
Arum need to send his Private jet to pick up Pac then return him home after the Cotto fight.
pac is going on vacation with his family.
