Recently, Catchweights have become more popular. Some fans think catchweights are a problem for the sport and shouldn't be used at all and some fans think it is a good way to make the most important fights possible.
How do you feel about catchweights? Are they good or bad or somewhere in between? Poll to follow, Please discuss.
well then we will just have to agree to disagree. and while we are pointing things out might i add NSB seems to be agreeing with me as far as catchweights are concerned :D .. peace

Agree to disagree is always fair.. But according to the poll you have to add both "Yes" options which equals 14 yes to 13 no!
Only if it's a case where it makes things more fair and the bigger guy wouldn't be totally drained.
Roach wanting Mosley to go down to 142 is more of a case where Mosley would more likely to just be dead at the weight, not to try to "even things out".
Whitaker-Chavez being at 145, for example, I don't have much of a problem with.
Right that's what I think. As long as the catchweight is necessary and ideal for both fighter's to put on their best possible performances.
catchweights should be rare occassions. a fighter should be fighting 2-3 catchweight fights in a row unless the money is just too good to pass up.
besides, bigger fighters shouldn't be picking on little fighters to begin with.

I just pointed it out b/c I've actually heard a lot of folks stressing the point that Mayweather can't even make 140. Which I imagine he can however considering it's Floyd, no one is going to force him to come to 140. I think it's ok to use catchweights. I don't however think you should be able to take a belt from a weight class without having fought for the belt at said weightclass.

except i never said that.
i just said he could make it.. hell i acctually said he could probably make it.
if it makes me nuts that i think floyd could probably make 135 then i guess im nuts. eighter way that isnt the point of all this.

I'm pretty sure most posters on NSB would call you nuts for thinking Mayweather can make 135 comfortably.

mayweather-pacquiao doesnt need no damn catchweight. floyd could make 140 easily, hell he could make 135. these guys are not that far away from eachother in size so theres no need for a catchweight. its as simple as that, if two fighters can meet at a REAL weightclass do it, if they cant, dont. eighter way forget catchweights. and if mayweather-pacquiao wasnt made cuz floyd didnt wanna go to 140 n pac didnt want to go to 147, then fukk it.

Other than Juan Manuel Marquez, who would you rather see Manny Pacquiao fighting? Personally, I really want to see Mayweather -vs- Pacquiao. Of course I'd love to see Mayweather fight Cotto or Mosley, but from a Pacquiao standpoint I am definitely excited about this potential bout.

well then the fight shouldnt happen, and i always thought it shouldnt. let mosley go after the other top welterweights. and let pac decide weather he wants to stay at 140 or go back down to 135. fukk the fight and fukk catchweights. its just a way for top fighters to avoid taking on hungry up and coming fighters and take less meaningful fights for more money to please the mainstream fan at the expense at the diehards.

That's easy to say just pick a weight class. However for instance between Mosley and Pacquiao, Mosley would be at an advantage at WW. The only reason Pacquiao fought at WW in the first place was because there was no other weight for him to meet DLH at. On the flip side it would be equally unfair to tell Mosley he flat out has to fight Pacquiao at 140.. I think there is some sense to these catchweights but they have to be approached sensibly.

The bigger the bout the better. What weight? what belts? I dont care.
Well I definitely don't give a sh*t about trinkets involved. There ABC's are about as important as the Trailer Park Strap. When I saw you were the last post on this thread I half thought your post was just going to say "do some work!"
floyd should stop being a punk and get his ass down to 135 (which he damn sure can make with little difficulties) to fight marquez. or at 140, but these catchweights are just ridiculous. mayweather-pacquiao is the same thing. stop splitting lbs.
ppl compare pac to henry armstrong, henry armstrong would be turning in his grave if he knew the so called p4p king was using a few damn lbs get in the way of a fight. just say this, 135 i tear ya ass up. 140 i tear ya ass up. just pick a box, sign the contract and lets get it on!

So you don't think the Mayweather Marquez fight is a good idea? Or that Mayweather/Pacquiao should happen outside of a traditional weight class?

forget catchweights. there are plenty divisions, all this pound splitting is getting ridiculous. fighters should unify there own divisions instead of looking to make messed up matchups for no reason other than money.
