Pacquiao ready to accept Mosley's challenge
MANILA, Philippines – Not one to back down from a challenge, Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday said he’s accepting the dare of Sugar Shane Mosley, who has repeatedly called him out for a showdown.
But the reigning pound-for-pound king reiterated that he would only climb the ring against Mosley if both their camps would agree on the terms of the fight.
“Walang problema, pwede kaming maglaban basta magkakasundo sa negosasyon," Pacquiao told 24 Oras in an interview from his hometown General Santos City.
Weight issues and money matters remain major considerations in choosing Pacquiao’s opponent for his next outing on October 17.
The camp of the reigning 140-lbs champ wants to set a catch weight should he fight Mosley, the WBA 147-lbs king. And being boxing’s top attraction, the Filipino ring icon would not settle for anything less than a 60-40 split on the purse.
But it appears Mosley is willing to make concessions to meet Pacquiao.
Quoted in a BoxingScene.com report, Mosley said: “I feel I am the best fighter in the world and I am willing to prove it by fighting Manny Pacquiao at a catch weight."
He said he’s ready to go down as low as 144-lbs for the Pacman.
"My last fight, I made 147 easily and feel that I can go down a little bit further to make a matchup between myself and Manny Pacquiao happen. A few pounds maybe 144 we would have to see what is best for all involved," he said.
“I was never a 154lb fighter to begin with. I did those fights just for the matchups. I was a small Junior Middleweight," he added.
Apart from weight concessions, Mosley claimed he would be easier to negotiate with – in terms of purse share - unlike the rest of the entries to the Pacquiao derby like Floyd “Money" Mayweather, Jr.
"Well, one thing I know is that if they are interested, negotiations for this fight would go a lot smoother than what they would for Mayweather, who would demand the lion's share or do everything he can not to make that fight happen. I know that Manny and (Pacquiao trainer) Freddie Roach both want this fight as they know that I won't run, stink the place out or complain about my hands like Floyd would," he said.
Mosley and Mayweather are two of candidates for the Pacman derby along with Pacquiao’s fellow Top Rank fighter, Miguel Cotto, and even old rival Juan Manuel Marquez should he turn the tables on Mayweather in their July 18 encounter. – GMANews.TV
why would he lose cotto? i think he already signed an extension contract for another 2yrs. and pac-cotto will happen no matter what pac wants? then why are you saying on the previous posts that the fight must be at 147 or no belt will be on the line?
Nope the extension is part of the Cotto-Pacquiao contract. Cotto gets Pacquiao and Arum keeps Cotto.
The fight will happen no matter what Pacquiao wants. No title will be on the line and Cotto will KO Pacquiao.
Pride runs deep in everyone. What you're saying is true, but the only way I see it is if money is split a little more to Cotto to coerce him from his side.
same thing i was thinking of bro.. if only they will give miguel a bit more money i think he will agree to put the title on the line at 145
You realize Arum losses Cotto if he does that? I bet you don't. You realize Arum gets less money if he does that? I bet you don't. Cotto vs Pacquiao will happen no matter what Pacquiao wants.

I agree, he could walk into MSG saying "The Champ is here, The champ is here."
OMG man I already bought tickets for Pac Cotto ! SOn of a bitch,
I thought Mosley gave up fighting Pac already.
This is getting ridiculous
Pacquiao is really pissing me with inconsistent decisions... No way Mosley will put his belt on line under 147... and he will call himself a linear WW champion if he beat Mosley @ 144? Terrible...!
Check the date of this thread and it don't matter what Pacquiao wants. Cotto vs Pacquiao will happen.

like i said, we'll never know. if pac wants it, who knows? uncle bob might give-in. i think shane is the biggest threat, second is cotto

Then you must also know how stupid it is that they're arguing over two pounds.
Pacquiao wants 145lbs, the bigger share (rightfully so), and the belt?
Cotto wants to fight; he agreed to 145lbs., but not for the belt, just the money. If Pacquiao wants the belt, then he should go up those two pounds, otherwise STFU and fight.
no contracts are signed yet so everything is still subject to change. i just dont see this fight happening at 147. they might fight for the belt at 145 and thats a bigger possibility than having the fight at 147
???????? If I go by your logic why should Arum put him against Shane if he is the biggest threat? Arum is not Mosley's promoter dude, he gets no money from Mosley earnings.
And by the way Shane is not the biggest threat.

Catch weight at 144 sounds fair to me...make it happen. This would be a hellva fight if both sides can come to terms with the weight and money issues. I'm all for it.
I'm not a big fan of this Catchweight fights, but they offer interesting matchups, this is to me the most intriguing fight we can see in 2009 if it comes to happen. but IMO Pac should go all the way to 147.
Why should it be any different than when he did it vs Oscar, that fight seems to me a bit bogus now that Pacquiao refuses to go all the way up like he so easily did last December.
But anyway it might be, it would be a great fight if it happens.
we'll never know.. shane is the biggest threat to pac in my opinion.

a win against shane would do better in pacs resume. i have a feeling that if cotto continues to play hard to get, pac might end up fighting shane. which is a very dangerous fight for him
Arum won't let that happen dude.

yes but surely he wont go against his company interests?
uh, the company works for mosley and mosley is the biggest fighter on their roster right now considering dlh is retired, bhop is semi-retired and hatton got flattened.
Very interesting, but I have a gut feeling if its between Cotto or Mosley, Pac's gonna take Cotto (or Arum may persuade Pacquiao to take Cotto), which leaves Floyd but one fight...
Shane vs Floyd in Nov or Dec!
It's going to be something to see Pacquiao ringside in MSG next weekend.
This could be one of the best fights and match ups ever~!
I don't want anything to get in the way of a possible fight between Pac and Mayweather so I hope Pac knocks Mosley out. then hope the fight doesnt get made cuz pac aint ko'ing mosley
