One final note.
Hopkins legacy and ATG status is much higher than Joe's, overall.
They had similar title reigns, partly due to shitty divisions, and partly due to the fact that they were just so much better than their opposition.
But Hopkins has the wins over Tito, Oscar, Winky, Tarver, Wright, and Kelly. And he's still fighting, rewriting the history books on what a 40 year old fighter is capable of.
His place in the ATG ranks and his legacy will always be looked upon as greater than Calzaghe's.
And as a fan, I'm very proud of that.
Prime Bernard beats Prime Calzaghe. Bernard was more agressive and his stamina was top notch in his prime.
Bernard wud never get knocked down from a forearm...
I knew what was going to happen to Lacy going in. The only surprise was that he made it the distance.
Going in to the Hopkins vs Pavlik fight I actually thought it was going to be a slow boring grinding fight with Pavlik outworking him, but I was wrong on that one of course.
With Calzaghe/Lacy, I predicted a Calzaghe victory as well.
By a much closer decision though, and I didn't see Joe absolutely dominating him the way he did. Kudos to Joe on that.
But for me ; I always have a negative reaction when the boxing media here in the U.S hype somebody up before they've really accomplished anything. With Lacy, I didn't see what everybody else saw in him ; this wrecking ball puncher who was going to dominate the best Super Middleweight of all time.
I saw a young kid who was going to test his skills against the best in his division, but didn't have enough experience and know how to take the title he was reaching for.
I do my best to never get sucked into the hype. The same was true with Pavlik, though I loved watching him KO Taylor.
A Hopkins who at 44 owned Pavlik who everybody thought was a total beast who going in the only debate with most "experts" was whether or not he would knock Hopkins out. Joes a great fighter who would have given ANY all time great fighter lots of trouble. I don't understand why some people don't give him the credit he deserves.
That's a prime example of experts not knowing what the hell they're talking about.
Going into the Calzaghe fight, naturally I picked Hopkins, and I even predicted Hopkins scoring a knockdown sometime in the fight because Joe squares up too much, and I knew the right hand would get him at some point.
But I acknowledged that Joe could win as well because his style and workrate would be a nightmare for B-Hop.
With the Pavlik fight though ; I saw that shit coming a mile away. I predicted a schooling by Hopkins, and I got exactly that.
Sometimes the experts just get so high on a particular fighter that they can't possibly fathom them losing.
Calzaghe/Lacy is another prime example of that.
no they didnt
setanta scored it 115-112 calzaghe
bbc scored it the same on the broadcast, i believe the online round by round publisher gave it to hopkins though.
LOL whats surprising there? Bunce called Calzaghe's win over Roy his best ever.
He IS setanta sports so cors there gonna score the fight for him.
Calzaghe edged out a SD against a 43 Year old Hopkins im SOOO impressed....
castillo impressed the hell out of me when he kicked mayweather's ass in the first fight.
Hopkins tried his best to spoil the fight........he lost 9 rds and did a bad job of getting on his bike and wasting time by cheating......
Joe outworked and outclassed Bhop.
I don't see this fight as having been close. I had it 9 rounds to 3 for Calzaghe. Hopkins getting the flash knockdown gives him another point but it would have been the worst decision in a major fight since Whitaker vs Chavez if they had gave it to Hopkins.
i,agree,100%
A split decision that even BBC and Setanta scorers thought Hopkins won is now considered a raping.

only if you are biased, calzaghe won clearly.
I'm really not being bias. Granted I love Hopkins. But I respect Joe too.
I think you can learn a lot about a fight fan based on the way they scored Calzaghe/Hopkins.
It's one of those quintessential "output vs. accuracy" fights, to me. If you like activity, and workrate - You scored it for Calzaghe. If you like accuracy and countering - You scored it for Hopkins.
As I said earlier ; I can see scoring it for either man.
I actually enjoyed the fight, unlike most here.
I like watching guys with unique styles try to figure one another out and adapt to each other.
I don't agree.
Joe didn't even get into his rhythm until late in the 5th or early into the 6th.
Hopkins won 3 of the first 4 rounds, on my card.
And with the knockdown, that's a total of a 5 point lead already.
Don't get me wrong ; I can see scoring the fight for Joe.
But it wasn't no 117-111 bullshit like that one judge had it.
It was a very close, evenly contested fight that could've easily been a draw.
only if you are biased, calzaghe won clearly.

why did you post a pic of cortez pushing calzaghe to the floor?
you'd have to be really biased to score that fight to hopkins, that was a ud for calzaghe, hopkins won 4 rounds TOPS
