News outside the ring: Cops arrested professional boxer and former middleweight champ Jermain Taylor over the holiday weekend in South Beach. Charges: disorderly conduct and resisting officers.
Happened during Urban Beach Week, at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, in the 1400 block of Collins Avenue Taylor, 30, driving a Rolls-Royce, allegedly stopped the car in the road, blocking traffic. When told to move, he climbed back in the Rolls, drove it another 100 feet, then stopped again. He got out and ''began to yell and dance,'' a police report says. A crowd of about 50 gathered.
Officers tried to arrest Taylor for breach of the peace when he resisted and pushed a uniformed cop in the shoulder, the report says. Police got him to the ground, cuffed him and booked him into Miami-Dade County Jail at 2:23 a.m. Memorial Day. He spent three hours in the pokey before posting a $5,500 bond. Arraignment is set for June 15 before Circuit Judge Yvonne Colodny.

• Police spokesman Juan Sanchez said of the 548 arrests on Miami Beach during Memorial Day weekend, two were pro athletes: Starks and boxer Jermain Taylor, arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence.
Not a major offense or anything, but not something one of the nicest guys in the sport needed on his resume. It sounds like the Miami police were putting the clamp down something serious though.
didnt expect this from jt ..maybe stupid judah but not jt
lol.. judah would probably make a run for it. only n*gga to swim from miami to cuba. :lol1:
and they said jermain got out of the car, danced and THEN got taken to the ground and arrested. we all know judah hits the ground first, then bust a dance move after he got back up.
Damn. JT don't come off as a guy who'd do anything even slightly illegal. Poor guy may be comin apart.
i guess froch must've hit him one too many times too hard.
It looks like this might conveniently go away altogether.

Jermain Taylor's Memorial Day legal troubles in South Beach, Fla., were lightened a little Monday, and there is the possibility they'll get even lighter in the next couple of weeks, according to his attorney.
Taylor had been charged with one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and one count of felony resisting arrest with violence after reportedly getting into an altercation with Hialeah, Fla., police on a busy street in South Beach, Fla., on May 24 during Urban Beach Week.
Taylor was arraigned
Monday before Judge Yvonne Colodny of the 11th Circuit Court of Miami-Dade County, who reduced the charge of felony resisting arrest with violence to a misdemeanor resisting arrest without violence and transferred that case to county court.
The charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct was dropped by the state.
The difference between resisting arrest with violence and without is more than semantic. If the charge is with violence, it is a grade three felony punishable by up to five years in a state penitentary in accordance with Florida Statute 843.01. The charge without violence is a grade one misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in county jail, according to Florida Statute 843.02.
Taylor's Fort Lauderdale, Fla., attorney, Richard Della Fera, said he thinks the resisting arrest without violence charge might be dropped as well.
"That's my ultimate goal, to seek dismissal of the resisting arrest charge," Della Ferra said. "The charge that started it all, the disorderly conduct, has been dismissed by the state. Within a week or so, I'm hoping to hear something about the resisting arrest charge. If Jermain was not behaving in disorderly conduct, then there's no reason to arrest him and there's no reason for him to resist.
"I'm in contact with the state attorney's office daily, and I'm optimistic that we can work something out."
Della Terra said Taylor is relieved to have the accusation that he acted with violence dispelled by the state attorney's office.
"He did not offer any violence to this officer who arrested him," Della Terra said. "The fact that the state attorney's office has stated that he didn't act with any violence is a relief to everyone involved."
According to published accounts of the incident, Taylor was driving a Rolls-Royce down the 1400 block of Collins Avenue in South Beach, Fla., when the car reportedly stopped, blocking traffic. The report went on to say that after being told to move his car, Taylor moved the vehicle about 100 feet and got out the car and began to dance. The report stated that roughly 50 people gathered around Taylor, causing a disturbance.
The charge of resisting arrest came from the allegation that Taylor pushed one of the officers when he tried to arrest him for breaching the peace.
Taylor was booked into the Miami-Dade County jail by officers from the neighboring community of Hialeah at 2:23 a.m. on Memorial Day. Taylor posted $5,000 bond after three hours in lockup, according to court records.
Poor Jermain.
I feel sorry for him - he must be feeling bad because of what happened to his career and may be turning to drinking to deal with it.
It does sound like he was drinking, but... you'd think that would be in the report as a DUI.
Damn. JT don't come off as a guy who'd do anything even slightly illegal. Poor guy may be comin apart.
Yeah, this is really surprising to me... he's a really civilized human being for the most part it seemed like to me.
damn he ran out of stamina while fighting the police too
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
Way too funny for me to handle.
More info:
Taylor, who is from Little Rock, was in the Miami area for the holiday, according to Ozell Nelson, Taylor’s manager and trainer. Taylor has kept a condo in the area since he trained there under Pat Burns several years ago.
Nelson said the arrest appears to be a matter of Taylor being in a busy area at the wrong time. Later that night, in a separate incident, Miami Dolphins defensive end Randy Starks was charged with aggravated battery after allegedly veering his slow-moving truck into an officer trying to stop him on Ocean Drive. The felony carries a minimum of five years in state prison and a maximum of 30.
The Miami Herald reported that Sanchez said there were 548 arrests in Miami Beach during Memorial Day weekend.
Nelson said he has been told that Taylor stepped out of a car because the traffic was backed up and the police took him down.
“The police down there during Memorial weekend are real aggressive,” Nelson said. “They don’t care who you are, if something isn’t right, they are going to react first and deal with it later. From my understanding, he didn’t do anything.”Taylor’s business manager, Andrew Meadors, said he had spoken with Taylor and agreed with Nelson’s understanding of what happened. Meadors added that Taylor is considering taking legal action and that he has several witnesses to corroborate his story.
“Jermain’s getting an attorney down there, and I really can’t say anything more, other than I think this is an example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Meadors said.

According to Rafael's chat, Dominic Guinn was with Taylor in Miami and also arrested.
The more I think about it the more I feel this could be good for Taylor's image, actually...
WOW you know what, i feel for him i visited MIAMI last yea during MEMORIAL DAY and got Arrested for Resisting arrest without violence and Disorderly conduct and they took me to DADE COUNTY! wow.
This might be the end of the end for Jermain. The beginning of the end was Pavlik. Froch took the last vestiges of confidence and momentum Jermain could muster, and now he'll piddle away with non-violent arrests and non-sexual rape charges.
....Poor guy. He can't even go the Tyson bad-guy route effectively.
Yea he was arrested for Robbery, said he ran out of gas his last fight and needed some gas but had no cash so robbed the gas station but got caught on Miami beach......LMAO
Wow. You delivered that punchline like Jermain delivers knockouts. :ugh:
