Say Clottey wears Black gloves; would it be to his advantage rather than say, wearing Red Gloves?
Same could be said with Hatton wearing White gloves instead of red or black.
So basically, maybe a fighter should have to wear Red Gloves or opposite to their skin complexion. Or everybody should start wearing a glove that matches the skin complexion since in a street-fight, your hands are the same color as the rest of your body.
So...do you think it would be easier for an opponent to see Red Gloves on a Black fighter as opposed to that fighter wearing Black gloves when he has black skin?
Same with a White fighter wearing White gloves as opposed to Red or Black.
I was thinking about this when I was remembering my glory days when I used to do a little sparring and remembered what I was thinking back then....I liked when Red gloves were worn more because they were easier to get your attention and see on the opponent...much more than when I had some fights in the streets and the hands matched the rest of the person.

Don't the better defensive fighters avoid watching a fighter's hands anyway? I guess seeing the red coming at you at the last minute is where you're getting at. It's an interesting thread topic, a rarity around here. Well done.
I'm trying to think of examples where fighters wore "skin matching gloves".
Well the most important color is Red and that is a color Oscar didn't have inside his body because he was Dead. So, his glove color would not have mattered.
I thought those gloves on Oscar were pretty badass. Kind of reminded me of Old School boxing gloves.

i really liked the brownish/maroon color of his gloves and trunks for the pac fight
lol
Maybe this explains why ODLH came in to the fight against Pacquiao with brownish gloves. Too bad it did not work. Maybe ODLH was the wrong shade of brownish.

Because of skin color?
Eh....that would suck but just ignore those that get off topic. As long as people don't respond to racist bits, it won't crowd the thread discussion.
Serious discussion here and it could have an affect on a fight.
Little details can matter; at least I think so.
Little details are can often be most important, in a sport like boxing any little advantage you can get can of great importence.
Uh oh, Benny.
This thread might take a turn for the worse.

By the way, I'm not saying a HUGE difference but a slight difference can matter.
Maybe it is just me but that's how I remembered it when I was sparring different people that I've sparred several times and they used to change glove colors.
I also noticed Red Gloves got my attention a lot more on a any fighter.
Just saying....
what you're saying makes sense to me
it would be interesting if this theory could somehow be tested

Very interesting thread. Their is no doubt that Clottey is very dark.
What bothers me even more about fighting dark very dark fighters is that you can never tell if you have given them a black eye. I don't mean this in a mean way but it is true, if Clottey got a black would we be able to see it on his face? No.
This makes me wonder about the slaves when they were beaten, can you imagine not having any real visible bruises after getting beat and just maybe this would cause them to get beatin' even more :( It wasnt just whips that these people were getting hit with :(

All you need is one punch that someone does not really see comming to really change a fight. So even if it is only a slight thing, it only needs to happean once in a fight for it to make a difference.
Interesting thought though, never really thought about it like that.
 :wtf1: :dunno:
TEST IT OUT:
Get gloves of different colors and put them on one of your friends. If he has dark skin, put dark gloves on him and spar. Then, put red gloves on him and spar. See if there is a difference. You can do this with a White Person as well. White gloves vs. Red Gloves.
And if you friend is a Smurf, obviously Blue gloves and then White.
