I always kinda thought that boxing was probably the most physically demanding sport ( on top of MMA and other sports ) but ive been watching this playoff and ive noticed these guys are just running up and down up and down non stop that has to drain you a lot although im not sure if it drains more from u throwing punches, dodging, using ur knees and moving ur head for 45 minutes with only 12 min interval, ive never done either ( ive done 32 mile forced roadmarches with 65 pounds on me so i know a thing or two about physically exhausting activity ) but of course that doesn't compare to a boxer in any way. im just wondering if someone that has done both sports can tell me or just tell me your opinion im just really curious.
Boxing is the hardest game.
I remember years ago that TV show Superstars and boxers without fail did terribly. Don't know what it proves but just thought i'd throw that in. Formula one drivers have remarkable conditioning too considering they just drive.
I remeber Larry Merchant saying something to the effect that running a marathon might be the hardest thing in sports but no one is pounding on you while your running.
imma really miss that old bag of bones when he dies, he makes me laugh with the weirdest comments on the most random moments that make sense most of the time.

lucky ass lebron
it was a good good game man that guy is just a beast. i hate how theres so many fouls on basketball i remember it wasn't like this when i was little and jordan was god backthen..man back in the day huh.
If you look at the big three of american sports, they have a unique relationship to boxing.
Football - I think football players are, as a group, the biggest, fastest, strongest athletes in the world. If you look at the average football game, it's a serious representation of enormous, strong, fast people. If you take your average big football player and stick him in boxing, he won't become champion but he will crack some skulls. The guy arreola fought two fights ago almost beat him in the first round. He was a football player.
Basketball - basketball players are also incredibly big and strong and fast, just not quite so much as football players. Pound for pound I'd expect them to make the best fighters, they'd have great footwork and throw serious punches. Roy Jones played a lot of basketball.
Baseball - baseball players would have the most power, pound for pound. There's nothing like throwing a baseball as hard or far as you can, or hitting, to learn how to use your whole body to throw a punch. Rocky Marciano was basically a baseball player convert, and jack dempsey played a lot of baseball before his willard title fight.
that's a great way of looking at them. i saw someone mentioned tennis as a really physically demanding sport too. but i just sit down and think and man...boxing for like 1 minute takes so much out of us normal joes and i tell people that boxers are really really like in the most top notch condition. also i was thinkin that swimmers must have crazy cardio, even more than boxers, swimming also takes a lot from someone.

elite athletes from most physical sports are decent specimens, but boxing really is the toughest of the tough.
Tennis and basketball do not require the same level of conditioning as boxing.
I've played both at a decent level
Soccer you have to be a good runner but it's really a one dimensional type of conditioning required
My issue with this though, is besides a few heavyweights, how many heavyweight boxers do you see that are in shape?
Not many. If you are a pro hoopster, the slowest fat guy is faster than most. At least they have to be big, and in shape.
The lower weight classes they have to be, but heavyweights except for the top few, can eat themselves out of house and home and still get a big fight.
Under heavyweight, there is no question boxing is more grueling and the fighters have to sacrifice a lot and be in perfect condition.
THEY DON'T COUNT.they' haven't counted since lennox:D
this isn't about which one is more physical its about which take more from an athlete. I have done several sports basketball, football, track, soccer, boxing etc. All have there different difficulties and demands from a physical and mental aspect. If we are talking about training to be the best their all about the same.
boxing does.basketball players hardly ever starve themselves to make weight.look at my new york knicks own eddie curry.gotta love those cheese burgers.
I played basketball all throughout highschool, its not as physically demanding as you think. Maybe it was because I was the big guy and never had to run & gun, I dunno. But I found 2 minutes in a boxing ring way harder than 20 minutes on a basketball court.
boxing beats basketball by a mile. basketball shouldnt even be considar in the hard sports class all the fighting sports then the contact sports and lastly the none contact sports like netball, basketball and knitting.
