I've been going back & forth on this fight for awhile. Based on each guys' last 2 fights my question is how does Floyd through enough to beat Manny?
Watching each fighters last 2 fights vs. Oscar & Hatton a couple things that I find interesting are:
1. Floyd fight's going backwards moreso than forwards. Pac fights coming forward moreso than going backwards. Floyd may leaner cleaner shots, but in sheer quantity (be it clean, glancing, off the shoulders or to the body Floyd cannot match Pac's output, nor will he. He is a counter puncher, Pac is the aggressor. Can Floyd overcome this with sheer accuracy & slow pac down? I honestly don't think so.
2. Floyd was able to win a SD vs. Oscar, but again it was a lot 1 punch & move out with Oscar not willing to throw. Manny will throw & not stand infront of Floyd like Oscar did. If Manny lets his hands go as usual (and i don't see why he wouldn't as he's shown he's not afraid to take a punch) based on how the crowd reacted at anything Oscar landed anywhere on Floyd will that not effect the judges? (It sure seemed to on the 1 scorecard that had Oscar winning). Manny will be a similar crowd favourite & will more than likely have the crowd reacting more than Floyd will.
3. The hate factor. People want to see Floyd lose, so can he really get a close decisions vs. Manny who will be throwing more than Floyd? I think if there's ever a time for anyone to give close rounds to Floyd's opponent this would be it. I mean with the genuine love for Pac, and hate for Floyd how can this not be a factor from the crowd down to the judges?
Bringing me to my conclusion, unless Floyd KO's Manny (which I don't see happening) how is he going to win this fight being the economical fighter that he is? Manny won't slow down at all through the fight, if anything his activity will only increase. Floyd had great success finding Ricky coming straight in, and Oscar standing right infront, but Manny does neither. If Floyd can't KO him he would need a convincing UD, and once again how is this possible given the above factors, most notable a SD over Oscar who stood right infront of him, but when he threw and landed anywhere the crowd went bananas? I see too many intangibles in favour of Manny from activity, to appeal & most of all people wanting to see Floyd's mouth shut.
Just my 2 cents ofcourse, but after seeing some of the punch output numbers & watching the last 2 fights for each fighter I honestly don't see how Floyd wins other than a KO. July 18th might provide some answers but until then I think I've got to go with Manny UD. Again not based entirely on who the better man is, but what people want to see.
Please no hug/hate posts. Just logic & honest opinion.
Difference is, Pacquiao needs to get close. Mayweather isn't gonna stand there like Hatton/ David Diaz/ DLH or EVEN JMM, Pacquiao isn't gonna be able to sneak in that left straight. One thing, Judah is faster and stronger then Pacquiao, also has an uppercut that gets everyone's respect. Pacquiao doesn't have Judah's left straight, Judah could land it from a mile away. Difference there but people will disagree with that, already know
Nah. Mayweather will stand there at times, but he wont be a punching bag like Hatton/diaz/ and dlh. Mainly because he fights in the pocket, he likes to use the shoulder roll.
Then again, Pacquiao is similar to Judah. Judah gave Floyd shit loads of problems until Judah went retarded. Thing is, when have you seen Pacquiao not fight the way he wants to fight? Sometimes his style gets him in trouble but he always throws punches in bunches.
Floyd will have a tough time fighting someone like Pacquiao.

Good points, that's what we need to see. Is he up to the task & willing to let his hands go more than he has in the last few years?
he'll have to be... otherwise he could lose a fight that comes down to the main point of this thread, punch output... people forget about pbf's defense tho, and pac beat up a dlh who spread himself thin and a ricky hatton who... well...
How will Pacquiao react to Mayweather's elbow/ forearm in his face?
Another factor which the referee may play a part in. Floyd's good with getting away with that, what happens if he gets warned?

Co-sign, Neither guy has fought a fighter quite like the other or been matched up vs. a similary style I think if anything Manny has a closer experience to fighting Floyd than vice verse based on the couter punching style of JMM, but it ends there.
What was Pacquiao's output in the 1st and 2nd fight against JMM? because I'm sure we're gonna see that type of an output

Yeah, I expect to see Floyd use the "Jab to the body" ALOT. Land the right and then clinch right after. Pacquiao can be a very elusive target, not on the offensive though, JMM has proven that. Mayweather isn't gonna open up, he'll wait, difference is, Mayweather doesn't care about putting on a good show. Mayweather will be patient and wait for Pacquiao, then counter.
It's a good analysis. This might come down to how many clinches Mayweather initiates as well. Warnings? What type of referee we're going to have, etc. The X factors for this fight are mindboggling.
you're right... pbf's gonna have to impress... on the other hand, i think he's up to the task... plus, the dlh thing was also for cinco de mayo... they might not have the mindset of screwing pbf, especially if he stops jmm or clearly outclasses him where pac struggled...

i agree with this, except i think pbf will duck and roll after landing the right instead of clinching...
Good point with the Corrales fight, although the style/speed of Pac is apples & oranges. It would be interesting to see If Floyd could use the same plan vs. a much more elusive target...just one of the many intangibles of this fight.

Agreed 100%, but the fact that it wasn't...doesn't that concern you a bit? It just seems like people are wanting to see Floyd get his first L more & more. That's the only explanation I can fathom for Oscar getting 1 scorecard in his favour, and Oscar didn't do anything! I think Manny can make a more compelling/closer fight that Oscar did, which is why I can't see Floyd getting the nod in a close fight here. He has to KO to win, or very clearly outclass Pac which is no easy task.

you can throw 100 punches a round but if only 15 land you aint doing shit
That's another factor in this fight. How much will Pac's accuracy diminish vs. Floyd? I think it would have to be substantial, but at the end of the day if he makes any sort of contact that may appear clean the crowd will go nuts...
pacman wont be swinging alot with floyd..if he does it'll be an early night ..cause floyd will ko pacman with a counter
Hmmm...that's possible, but I can't see Pac not being Pac. He'll throw n throw, if he gets countered he'll still throw (morales, marqeuz) but youre right if he gets countered on a 1 punch ko it's over. I think pac as much a chance as Floyd at this though...
He did the same against Corrales, people don't know how effective the jab to the body can be. It can really break down an opponent, once Pacquiao has lost some steam, Mayweather is gonna go for the kill but not like an idiot, he'll do it with a Winky Type shell, like in the Zab fight.

No. Floyd's punch output is not enough to beat Pacman. We are talking about a speedy guy who throws more than 100 punches a round. Floyd doesn't even come close to Pacquiao's punch output.

Oh no way am I saying Pac is going to outbox Floyd, it's not possible. He does have the timing/speed/reach to land on Pac, but I honestly thing I can say vice versa here. It's not like Floyd doesn't get hit.
You really see Floyd going at him after 6? That would be something to see, I just can't imagine it though. If he's winning after 6 rounds by not going after him, why would he start after the 6th round & risk getting 1 punched?

sandyvahra, you bring up very good points... although i believe that sd pbf got over dlh should have been a ud... i agree with Dominicano Soy about floyd slowing pacman's output up... i can actually see him knocking out pac if he strings his punches together... i don't think roach would be stupid enough to instruct manny to go for the jugular with money may, he might try to get pac a little more calculating(not sure how that would work out)... floyd's gonna land the straight right, if pac finds a way to block it, pbf'll connect a left hook at the end of it... one thing's fa sho, the ko pac got on hitman was impressive, but ricky's feeble... he won't get floyd that way...
