What does NSB think. Is Murray the real deal or still untested. I haven't seen too many of Murray's fights but have been impressed from what I've seen. Rather than face Hatton or another boxer, this is the fight that I would like to see in the very near future.
Please why would your bring this up??? John Murray is the great white hope, alot of british fans belive he is the only british fighter(basically meaning white) that could beat Khan. As most of you all know already alot of british people love to see Khan fail(we call them Racists) Fair enough if someone says they dont like Khan because he is a hype job or what ever but for someone to say Khan isnt all that and that Murrey is bettere well then your a racist lol
Murray was getting outclassed by Lee Mcallister, Lee was scotish so every time he would cling on our try and fight dirty the english ref would stop him, everytime murray threw an elbow or grabbed on to Lee the ref let it slide. Lee showed how shit murrays defense is, it is honestly worse them Khans was a year ago, But fair enough John so far looks like he aint got that bad a chin yet he still hasnt been tested, anyways you replace Khan with Lee and think what Khan would have done to John Murrey. Lee was a better boxer them John he just didnt have the punching power, he also had a good chin and Invited John to hit him twice a round lol
Khan has the punching power and brains to punish Murrey and his Poor Defence, people have talked about this fight for years Khan has got better sence then while John stayed on the same level
Khan would desmantle him
murray is really an awful fighter. he has nothing to offer except that hes tough. he should go fight thaxton or someone. i dont like khan but he would slap this guy around. it wouldnt be an interesting fight at all.
Really, you think so? Then again, part of the reason that I like most fighters I like is their flaws (check my sig to see some of my fav. boxers with HUGE flaws in their fighting). Nevertheless, I've seen six or seven of Murray's fights, but not all 20 odd, and to be honest with you I've always found him pretty exciting. That's the reason that I think this fight would be interesting. I, like you, do not like Khan. That being said, however, Murray has the power to put someone away for good with his uppercut. In fact, putting Khan away would not be a difficult feat for my sister. Murray's defence, though is so abysmal that any sharpshooter would be very effective against him. And a sharpshooter is exactly what Khan is well on his way to being.

who is this john murray cat?
British lightweight title holder. BBC ranks him higher on the British P4P list than Khan. Watch his fights with McAllister and Meager on youtube or elsewhere if you're still curious. Exciting fighter, but has a lot of problems that need to be overcome if he's to be a world-beater.

I think that you were quite spot on with your analysis of the Meager fight. My biggest problem with Murray is that his defence is absolutely shite. Were it not for his above-average chin, I think meager outboxed him yes, and he ate more than a few shots coming in. Whilst he was there, however, he did his job bloody well. A great uppercutter, but leaves himself too open in doing so and starts eating leather. A decent chin will only take you but so far. He's young enough that he could still change his style with a decent trainer (Enzo, perhaps?) and i really think he could go places. That said, Khan has the power to put him away, but I still only see two possible outcomes for this fight. Either Khan on decision, or Murray by KO in the middle rounds.
Yeah his defence is his main problem, but your never gonna be a great defensive fighter when your an aggressive pressure fighter, they are few and far between (ala. duran, tyson, etc.) he can become more slick, but like you say it will only get you so far, I hear murray was doing well in sparring against hatton a few years back now, so that speaks well of him, and he is quite similar to hatton in a lot of ways, the thing with hatton though is that he has always had world class hand speed, and im not sure murray has that.
The only way I can see khan fighting him is if he loses to kotelnik, or further down the road if they are both holding world titles. In terms of your prediction I don't see it going 12 either way, I think either murray catches him with something, or khan uses murray's aggression against him to get the stoppage. My prediction would be a stoppage for khan around 7-9
Unfortunately I believe you might be right. I doubt that this fight will happen unless Murray does some real proving. It'd be great to see him get a world title, but he just gets hit WAY TOO MUCH. Should the fight happen I'd be routing for Murray, and the most likely situation I see this occuring would be a mandatory defence of Khan's.

Looking at his record I would say still pretty much untested tbh . He's only went 12 rounds twice . Lee McAlister is probably the best on his record . I still think Kotelnik will be Khan's first real test since Prescott as well tho but he's getting quality training and sparring in with Roach. I don't think the fight looks like happening any time soon tbh
There is a lot of talk in UK boxing gyms that murray would beat khan, and some say convincingly, I suppose there is always a chance because of khan's chin, but khan is a complete level or 2 above murray in the ring. Im glad some of the hype around khan has calmed down, now he's training in LA, he had becomed over-hyped and overrated, but now I think he is in danger of becoming an underrated prospect.
Don't get me wrong murray is a good fighter, and a good body puncher, but the only chance he would have is if khan's tactics were poor, and he elected to stand and trade with murray, and even then im not sure if murray would beat khan. But he wouldn't employ the wrong tactics with roach in his corner, if there is one thing that roach excels in its seeing flaws in other fighters and putting together a strategy to exploit them.
Put it this way, murray was getting outboxed and hurt by lee meager, so would do you think khan would do to him? But like I said with khan he can be ko'd by someone as tough and good as Murray. Personally I think murray will def win a european title but will find it hard going to win a world title, good luck to him either way I like his style he is exciting.
