The last time Juan Manuel Marquez was in a boxing ring, he weighed 140 pounds. This means that he was able to pull of the knockout over Juan Diaz with the body weight of 140 obviously not 'weighing him down'.
Now, the fight is contracted to be at 144. If I'm informed correctly, this means that Marquez can weigh anywhere from 141 to 144 when it's time for him to step on a scale. If Marquez fight Floyd Mayweather at 141 pounds, what is really the difference between this and what he's been doing? You can't say that he's not comfortable at this weight.. He fought a pound below it in his last fight. All this means is that Marquez can make weight more comfortably and won't have to worry about re-hydrating as much.
The 144 catch weight is fair for Marquez, and it's unreasonable to say that it takes away from his abilities if he has to fight in that are- he already does.
And Mayweather was better at 135. So what? This has no bearing on the fairness of the fight.
you can't be serious man.... you think a 35 year old that was fighting at 130 12 months ago is the same size as a 32 that's been fighting at 147 for several years???? come on man... lets make a better argument for the fight... i mean i wanna see the fight too but u gotta use a better excuse for this being even fight than this
how many fights has floyd had above 135 lbs?
how many fights has jmm had above 135 lbs?
answer these 2 questions and you will know who doesn't belong at 147.
are you suggesting that pbf could have still made 130 lbs?
Good thing he's not fighting at 147.
last time Mayweather fought, they didn't release the day of the fight weigh-in nore did they do this the fight before that.. Marquez weighing in @ 140 on fight night is proof that this fight should not happen and he is too small.
I guarantee you Mayweather comes weighing in 150 on fight night.
Alright, let them peep this:

At 130 POUNDS, Marquez rehydrated to a whopping 141.. The SAME weight which he could potentially come in at for July 18th. Now tell me: How is Marquez not acquainted with fighting at this weight?

loooooooooool
Also look at Pacmans weight. The same weight Floyd was against Judah at 147

JMM won't be too much at a disadvantage weight wise against Mayweather. It's not like he's facing Cotto or Collazo. When the news came out that the fight was going to be at 147, then there was a genuine claim for a weight advantage to Floyd. But Floyd is sacrificing weight too at 144 and IMO won't come in any higher than 147-148 on the night, with JMM coming in at 142-143.
post the pac-marquez II tale of the tape..... that'll really shut the haters up.....

Ring Magazine was off. The promoters of the fight themselves have said that Marquez-Mayweather is at 144.
It is pretty funny that the ring would get in wrong considering GBP is co-promoting the fight. You would figure the ring should always get the scoop on all things Golden Boy related.
wait so its 144 again?
didnt they change it to 147?

LOL...
I'm pinpointing a specific aspect of the fight, so yes- the big picture isn't in question here. I never said that Marquez wasn't the smaller man. But I'm also saying that we need to get over that.. It happens.

The fight being at 144 or 147 is still a bigger disadvantage to Marquez.
Juan Diaz was able to bully and hurt the smaller Marquez when he weighed 140.
I feel Mayweather at 144 ( or slighty higher) will actually come forward against Marquez because he knows he is bigger, stronger and faster. When Mayweather has a size advantage over his opponent he is more willing to pressure and break them down.
My argument was about the weight making Marquez innefective, not Mayweather's size. Yeah, he's the smaller man. But crying foul whenever somebody is outsized is ridiculous. This is boxing- it happens.

I think with the Hatton demolition, Pac had somewhat proven he would be a worthy Floyd adversary.
With JMM however, the fact is that he remains untested above 135. Even though he gave Pac problems at 130 and below, it doesn't mean he would be as effective as Pac has been 140 up. That remains to be seen and sadly we get to see him tested at welterweight for the first time on July 18, and of all people against Floyd. :D
Yeah i think the fact that Manny has fought at 147 and 140 makes people look at him like he's now big but JMM can also go up and fight oscar at 147 or Hatton at 140 and he would have beaten them both maybe not as fast as paq did it though.
I just don't get it. Manny Pacquiao is big enough to fight Floyd, and Marquez is big enough to fight Pacquiao in a 3rd fight- but Mayweather is too big to fight Marquez in a competitive way? If Juan can dance with Pacquiao at 140, where Manny will rehydrate to 144, where's the difference??

Its all revisionist history.. I think Floyd will get his respect after he's been gone from the sport (for good) for a while.
I think I am going to be stuck arguing about Floyd Mayweather for the rest of my life, but if Ali can be loved by everyone then anyone should be able to pull it off (Floyd is a polarizing figure but Ali was on a whole other level of being a polarizing figure).
