Keep in mind several factors including Mayweather has been inactive for a long period and that he likely has a limited number of bouts remaining. So, how does fighting Marquez affect Mayweather's Resume? Poll to follow!
Yeah but it's not surprising that he's playing it off like the most important fight in boxing. :lol1: It's fucking Floyd after all.
I agree, it's slightly better than a tune up but not much.
I have another dumb question... Is this a megabout??
It's basically a tune up for Floyd.
The more this gets analyzed the more this is what's becoming clear. I think the problem lies in PBF claiming it's not a tune up. I think it's slightly more than a tuneup but not much.
Was that 'fight-night weight' stripped or with shoes, jewelry etc. and was it on the official scale or a bath-room weight?
There's no rules for 'fight-night weight'. Maybe there should be, but there is not.
Not that it means anything at all since fighters always blow up several lbs to a higher weight than the weigh in. The problem is if he naturally blows up to 145 when he's fighting at a lower weight, then he won't likely be blowing up the typical 10 lbs comfortably above 147. Welterweights occasionally walk around at 160 lbs or even above, it doesn't mean they should be fighting Pavlik or Kessler.
Why aim that low? He should go straight for Valuev. :lol1:
Marquez might actually be able to win a couple rounds against Miranda(SMW) or Valuev(HW).. ok that's a stretch but it sounds like the argument Thunder is making.
I don`t recall a top 10 P4P who is champion of just one weight class. Maybe it`s why Henry Armstrong is ATG #3 in most list it is because they are just too good that they surpass these weight classes.
No one knows how PBF will actually fight after more than a year`s layoff. But surely, PBF has not experienced blood in the ring, and JMM is used to it and the hardships of being hit.
I think it boils down to who wants it more, and JMM has the capacity to be victor. Unless he gets assimilated by the mafia, because he is supposed to lose.
They should watch this fight very closely.
No, generally speaking a P4P ranked fighter is champion of more than one weight class but ultimately there are limits and frequently a gradual progression(there are also factors like age, natural size, style that need to be considered.) However that doesn't mean you can just chuck him into any weight class you want and expect the same exact result from him. I don't mean to suggest it won't be competitive but the criticism stems from fans wanting to see a fight that is more competitive. To be fair, this can be viewed as a tuneup fight but that is the debate going on in this thread.
After this Marquez is taking a fight at Super Middleweight. Don't question it, he's #2 P4P. That means he's capable of flexing between any weight classes.

:rofl::rofl:
The above must be on the p4p top 10 in most sig-worthy quotes from NSB.

to be fair to PBF, hearns fought a significantly smaller man in duran & i haven't encountered ( yet ) any hate or criticism thrown at hearns by the boxing community for beating a smaller & older man...
duran had already won a belt at light middle before he fought hearns and he later went on to win a belt at middleweight.
as opposed to marquez who i doubt will ever win a fight above 140 in his career.
I was surprised when JMM beat casamayor and Juan Diaz. I don`t under-estimate a proven veteran, JMM. He has never been koed I think, only kd. These are two elite fighters, in the same way that I don`t under-estimate Pac, this will be a great, hard-fought fight.
JMM has a very great resolve to fight Pac again. He will go all-out in this fight, and PBF may get nervous. Pacquiao has proven time and again that size doesn`t matter much.
JMM may just prove a lot of people wrong. I wouldn`t bet too much on PBF if I were you, remember, in this fight JMM is willing to die in the ring.
the difference is:
- jmm isn't pac.
- jmm has never fought above 135 lbs
- jmm doesn't have superhuman speed or power
jmm has a chance to make good fight out of it in a losing effort, but a loss is still a loss, and may cost him a future fight w/ pac.
this is a disadvantage because floyd will not have to get down in weight.
lols... its the difference between victory and defeat. power never beat floyd. but speed gives floyd trouble.

Well, these are just my opinions, but I feel this will definitely be a 50/50 fight. One positive aspect about JMM`s predicament is that the will not be weight-drained. And he has been taking up weights and bodybuilding according to articles.

So what`s the difference? JMM will be a little slower but possibly more powerfull. Who knows?

You may but your probably in the minority, and note on the side of oddsmakers.
Hmmm alright well we can make a bet on this if you like. But how would we define fight? I say Marquez doesn't win 4 rounds on any scorecard if it goes the distance, or he gets ko'd.
Okay... So if Marquez wins 4+ rounds on any scorecard plus survives the distance I win the bet...
20k straight up? or what
also it's too subjective to put into a bet but I reckon he'll be competetive in just about every round. Maybe bar the latter few when Floyd has gotten to him

i disagree. I give JMM a better chance than the likes of Berto and Quintana
i'm sure I'll be right come fight night too. JMM is gonna make a fight of it
and also I fundamentally agree that you can "harm a legacy". What has happened, has happened. Nothing can take that away... Think of it as an XP metre on some RPG game, it goes up every time you fight, just to different extents depending on who you face

Fighting weight or the day of the fight (the day after weight-in). He fought JMM-Pac2 at 145 I think, and he was heavier at fight night against Diaz.

Really? He just moved up to 135 less than a year ago and now he's a welter? Hmmm.... :nonono::nonono:

At 147 it's absolutely nothing. Any top 5 WW would have better odds than Marquez has. That's what it boils down to. There's probably Jr. WW that are closer underdogs than JMM. This fight is disgusting, and there are better, more legacy defining, more money fights, more appealing fights & above all more challenging fights out there. This fight is disgusting.

um... no. there's a reason why there are weight classes. the p4p titles is a hypothetical claim.
c'mon, this is a tune up. it does nothing for his legacy.

It's a super-fight based on name value and I'm sure Marquez will give him a run for his money
However the sacrifices Marquez is being forced to make do harm the fight's credibility somewhat
It sure is a legacy boost but not a particularly significant one considering circumstance

But JMM is #2 best P4P. It means that he can literally fight the same way at nearly any weight class. JMM`s fighting weight is 147. So he has to prove that title he holds, and so far, as of date, PBF is below JMM P4P.
PBF`s possible win will not only affect his legacy and P4P rating, but also his bargaining power with the Pac Team. One mistake with JMM, and he will be shunned from future mega-fights. A lot of people are just waiting for him to lose just to make him and his pa eat their words, he may even never fight Pacquiao because of this fear of losing. But not to JMM. He just put himself in a tight spot, and he will realize this too late.
I can do nothing but shake my head.
