Has the best chance of beating a prime Roy Jones? I just recently rewatched the BHop-Jones fight, and I didnt see a lot rookie mistakes that led to Hopkins losing that fight. Anytime Ive heard about that fight it was because Hopkins was green that Roy won. I was just wondering if a more experienced Hopkins would be giving up some of the speed he had earlier in his career, and if he was giving up even more speed than he did in their fight what could he do to win.
circa 2000/2001
he would at least give Jones a hell of a fight.
Co-sign, this was definitely about as close to a "prime" Hopkins as one is able to discern. Jones would still be favored though. Of course if they fought any time after the Ruiz fight, I think Hopkins would take it (one doesn't even need to mention presently).
I pretty much agree with everyone it looks like. I just always hear that when Roy is criticized. BHop was green thats the only reason he won. I think the BHop that fought Jones beats every fighter right now from 160-168 and there are some very good fighters in those divisions right now. I consider BHop great I just dont think there is much you can do when a fighter is just too fast for you.
no version beats jones, he was lucky jones hurt his left or he would have got an ass whooping then.
lol pretty much agree with that boxasmash but i think the bernard that beat johnson and tito probably has the best chance.
you're right in that bernard still fights now how he did back then, but back then he would sometimes come forward more often, his level of comp he was fighting pre-jones was moderate, he could get away with mistakes, but the fight with RJJ showed that he needed to play to his own strengths, going forward wasn't one of them.
later on in his career he almost stopped being the aggressor altogether, maybe it was apprehension but he does look uncomfortable and awkward when asked to come forward (against a good fighter who can counter i.e. not pavlik) which is why we dont see him moving forward so much.
bernards losses to fighters like calzaghe, taylor and RJJ shows that he struggles with speed, hence he wont fight dawson. any version of b-hop loses to a green RJJ
In about 2001 or 2002 he would have given Jones Jr. a run for his money but I severly doubt that there is a time in his career where he could ever beat RJJ
No version of Nard, would beat Prime Roy. IMO.
lol flat out isn't happening.
