I haven't had the time to play it yet, but a few friends of mine have been giving me mixed reviews. The game play seems much improved, but the fighters look fat, and Pacquiao seems pretty slow. So what do you guys think?
I dont think you can use buttons to punch in this game... sounds like thats gonna kill this game. nobody seems to like the joystick. i personally love it but from most people ive talked to about this game, they are pissed about the no buttons thing
Anyone know if there will be buttons for punching in the retail version?
Im a button person myself, but the controls are easy to use.
I've gotten used to it already and its fun. People might say the game sucks just because of that, but overall the game is good.
Instant Replays are a beautiful aswell.. Didn't know you can upload them till now. I had some good KO's and funny glitches.
The demo is available via code redeem on the Playstation network. Basically anyone who pre-ordered a copy of FNR4 got a voucher card with a unique code on it, and when you enter that code the download for the demo starts. Those that didn't pre-order can play the demo 2 weeks from today.
The action is very fast paced, they really increased the frame rate compared to FNR3. The animation is very fluid but the style is less realistic than in FNR3, the fighters seem almost like caricatures of their true selves. Backing away is definitely harder than closing the distance. If you want to gain any kind of distance you need to pepper the opponent with jabs.
I just played the Demo a couple hours ago. Its pretty addicting game.
Its much more arcadey though. But its also very realistic in a lot of senses. Like the punches can graze the guys head, and the in-fighting is extremely well done. None of that "hand goes through oponents arm" stuff AT ALL, which i thought was amazing.
And i didn't think the outboxing footwork was lacking at all. Its much faster paced but once you get used to it you can definetly box better in this game then in the last fight night.
The Knockdowns still suck though IMO. FNR2 had these sick knockdowns, where you could get a guy stuck in the ropes and just knock the shit out of him until he fell. you can't really do that here. The animations are still canned.
And also in FNR3, idk if u guys noticed but when you went to the ropes ur guy would kind of sit back onto the ropes, and you could do these really cool quick counter combos off the ropes. Well thats SORTA in FNR4... but really. Fighting off the ropes is still cool though.
And the Haymaker system is much better IMO. No more of that super-punch crap. And you can hurt a guy much more easily with well times counter shots, which means crazy swings in momentum. And this time when your stunned, clinching doesnt get you out of it which i thought was a great addition as well.
Overall I think the game is really good.
Yep they are still working on the models

That's a huge let down. Outboxing isn't good? So you have to war all the time? No chess matches?
theres more opinions in the arcade talk subforum.........i dunno, im just saying from what i read cus i dont have the demo code.......
but i guess its gonna be like fnr3, you cant box unless you have ali-like style and judeg jab............lame
well i trust warps opinion, and he says outboxing footwork is seriously lacking......

It is good but takes getting used to. The new total punch control is not as good as the old one in terms of quick response. I find myself struggling to throw upper cuts and quick combos. The inside fighting is really good but I find it difficult to jump in close and then back out quickly without taking massive shots to the head because my gloves drop when I try to back out and the fighter just stands still in the center of the ring.
