what high profile boxers have you met or know on a personal leverl and wat were or are they like???
i've met anthony mudine, and he said how are you etc and i told my age etc, and he said dont drink, smoke or don't fo drugs, and always dream and you can achieve anything you want to achieve.
and he shook my hand, i was a bit start struck, and he said you should come and watch me train etc and if you ever box, you should train with me and my farther.
I met him due to being on a 6 week holiday in aussie, and my uncles friend knew his farther, tony mudine sr. it was around 9 months ago.
i've also got a picture with glen johnson.
stoires???????????
Met Bernard Hopkins, sparred two rounds with Meldrick Taylor. Fought on the same amature cards as Ivan Robinison. Casual aquaintentces with serveral other Philly fighters, ran across them at Philly tournaments in the late 80s, early 90s. (wow! that was long ago, lol)
He was undefeated at the time too.
It was 2013, a few months before his fight was Pauli so he was at the peak of his stardom. He was with Sam Watson and a crew of people and was still really cool.
...and that is definitely around the time that people would've expected him to be an ***hole hahaha!
I always felt that he would be pretty cool to be honest. I actually feel that most boxers would probably be down to earth people. Professional fighters aren't the typical athletes/stars we constantly hear about.

The nicest, shockingly, was Adrien Broner.

Have a condo there so i see/run into/meet a lot of fighters. My uncles Tony Lopez and Loreto Garza and know Pete Ranzani, too. Big George and Tyson ive met. I can list a bunch of former and current fighters.....Oh and i met Ginger(at Edgewood in Tahoe. He said fuck you to me when I yelled fight Benavidez lol)
I’ve actually met Errol Spence Jr. and Shakur Stevenson at local shows and autograph signings. Super down‑to‑earth guys, way more chill in person than you’d expect from watching them in the ring.
Funny side note: when some of my friends were helping set up meet‑and‑greets, we looked up Checkr reviews because we needed background checks for volunteers handling the events. Good to know things like that are solid when you’re working around athletes and fans.
10000 pct… and my experience fighters are much more down to earth than other professional athletes and I assume it’s because they have not been sheltered by college walls and professional training camps and secure training facilities. Fighters generally train throughout the amateur and pro careers in the gyms with everyone else of every level.
i was spoiled. The first two pro fighters I ever met were Willie Pep and Muhammad Ali when I was 15
Good to see you still lurking around.
Having those two be the first I met im not sure i could get as excited meeting anyone else. Though im sure I still would. Fighters are the best athletes to meet.....very down to earth and I never have a bad experience.
The only boxer I ever met was Jimmy Thunder Peau (RIP), but it was bittersweet.
He was retired and fallen on hard times, camping out in a park in south LasVegas. I saw him and he looked a beat down, had matted dreadlocks, dirty threads, took a minute to recognize him. That's why he looked at me and said "What U lookin at?!!
I said Talofa you Jimmy Peau? and I told him I saw a lot of his fights on Tuesday Night Fights. After seeing I was a fan he turned out to be a pretty nice guy to me and talked a little. Then he hit me up for any spare $ I could afford before I left.
I came back to the park later and brought him some food and a gallon of water, and wished him the best.
From what I heard, he turned his situation around and got married to stay in the US, and lived on a Native peoples reservation for a while before he ended up back in New Zealand where he passed.
