First of all, Leonard was ridiculously awesome. Not that I wasn't aware, but I just love watching him.
Second, my GOD did refs took FOREVER to stop fights back then. They've shown two fights so far where Leonard's opponent was basically unconcious standing up and the ref didn't stop it.
There was one where the guy basically got up, the ref practically helped him up, than just as Leonard was about to go in for the kill, the guy took the mouthpiece out of his mouth and threw it on the ground. Leonard stopped, expecting the fight to be stopped, and the ref picked up the mouthpiece and put it back into the guys mouth. It was totally ridiculous, the guy could have gotten killed.

If he had energy to spit out his mouth piece he has energy to continue on fighting....OLD SCHOOL RULES.
And the guy didn't get killed so.........
Yeah that was crazy, he was losing his ass in that fight too. Ref definitely not on top of things.
Can't say it wasn't entertaining in a sick way, though. Sweet Pea never got KO's at that period (and never late in fights), so why not let him get his money's worth for such a rare occasion? Hahahaha
God I'm fucked up.
Pete Ranzany was in a coma before the ref stopped it. Lol..
The best instance of the late stoppage has got to be when Pernell Whittaker was bashing what looked like the corpse of Disobelys Hurtado. I think the ref couldn't believe that Whitaker could actually get so brutal of a KO. Hahaha.. He just kinda stood there in disbelief.
Yeah you never saw fighters tapping the back of their heads or their cups like you do nowadays. Hell you couldn't even tell they had cups back then lol

Yea I just saw it, crazy I felt bad for the guy.
Seemed like the cups and shorts were worn lower and shots below the waist in the borderline area were never called... even the ones to the hips. Fighters didn't complain
