It didn't really look like it was a crazy hard power punch to me. It was more of a 100% accurate chin blaster that Hatton didn't see coming (he LITERALLY didn't see it coming, he was too busy looking at and expecting his half assed jab to actually do anything) in my opinion and we all know how Hatton gets on with those types of punches "peeleft:
Which brings me to my next point.
People are using this fight as a comparison to Mayweather in order to compare their power and boxing ability, but that's impossible due to a few reasons.
Mayweather was blasting hattons head back all night, however it was in moderation. Mayweather is a guy who would rather let the other dude do what he wants, make his offense look insignificant and then pot shot with the eye catching punches every now and then to just do enough to win over the judges. If mayweather unloaded the total of head snapping straights he did through the course of the fight in one round and finished it off with that hook, I'm not sure Hatton would have got up again.
Basically the biggest gain with the least amount of effort,
Manny was blasting hattons head back all night (if you can even say that lol), however, he was unloading EVERYTHING in one go. Pacquiao is a guy who would never let you hit him and not come back at you to either negate the effect of your last attack on the judges or just to **** you up in return. This is why Diaz said that trading with Pac doesn't work. You cant hit him and expect him to be on the run, he'll respond to the aggression you show him.
The opposite of Floyd, in that he puts in a lot more effort to stay on top both in terms of demoralising his opponent and on the judges score cards.
So there we have it, two people who KO'd hatton with the exact same counter punch (albeit in different stances), but just with different methods.
If Mayweather was like Pacquiao and refused to let Hatton push him around (even though he loves pretending the other guy is pressuring him) and unloaded his accurate straights and hooks so early the way Manny did, you probably would have seen a very very similar result.
Therefore I think this comparison is unsubstantiated.
However, Floyd KO'd a tired Hatton, but Manny KO'd a fresh Hatton and he was (apparantly) so he gets the bigger props, but I honestly think Floyd could do it if he really tried.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, BRING ON THE ****IN PAC-MAY WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Strange question really...
It knocked Hatton unconscious before he hit the floor and left him laying on the canvas for several minutes and your questioning whether it was a powerful shot ??? :dunce:
What punch are you talking about???
:biggthump
Ha Ha
The one that had Hatton on his back breathing like a fish out of water.
Who's the Chick in your sig? :hitit: harder than pacquiao hit hatton ha ha
Find it hard to describe this punch as not powerful.. It was an absolute bomb.
The final punch was a peach and perfect in everyway:
Hatton walked (well charged) straight onto it, which meant he didnt see it.
Pacquaio threw the punch knowing Hattons lack of head movement would mean hattons head would be where it was, this can be proved by watching the slow mo's as pacquaio isn't even looking.
The punch was thrown with speed and had his whole body weight behind it.
It was a knockout punch in every meaning of the word, one of them ones where you know you've knocked out your opponent the moment it lands.. Thats why Pacquiao didnt throw anything after he threw it because he knew it was good night god bless for Hatton.

It was a very powerful punch because Manny put his weight on it. What made it worse for Hatton is that he didn't see it and walked into that punch which landed flush on the chin. The moment the punch hit, Hatton was unconscious and was breathing heavily after he fell.
Wouldn't that mean that you'd have to credit Hatton for at least half of the power of the shot lol?
I dont really think it was so hard a shot. Same with Mayweathers hook. It never looked like a huge punch to me. Just a real good one that landed RIGHT on the money.
Mayweather landed harder right hands in my opinion, but they didn't take Hatton off his feet because they were landing on his forehead, nose etc etc.
Then you would have to credit the turnbuckle for half of Mayweather's KO. IMO if it wasn't for Hatton falling face first into the turnbuckle he might've pulled through. So if you include the damage Hatton took from hitting the turnbuckle than you're kind of overrating Mayweather's punch. Pac's was in the center of the ring and Hatton was knocked out cold before he hit the floor. That in my my opinion gives Pacquiao the harder KO punch.
Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying it wasn't a powerful punch.
I'm just questioning HOW powerful it was, since his power is being hyped like crazy to the point where I'm seeing Pacs power > Cottos power threads.
How powerful was it? Enough power to KO Ricky for 3 mins.
Of course he caught RH off guard, if someone braces for a punch, it wont be as devastating. But it doesnt mean Manny got no KO power.
I really dont know what kind of answer you want to hear.
Its is not is as strong as a Tyson punch but nobody can say it was a weak punch.
It was a hard punch, but not the devastating supersmash some are making it out to be imo.
Well not only was it powerful but it was also quick as hell. Watch the first HBO replay of the KO, Jim Lampley knows what he was talking about: "Take a look at this; that was super slow motion!" Watch the replay from behind Ricky... you can see the ripple effect travel all the way from his head to his lower back muscles.
When was the last time you saw a 140 pounder, let alone at a top level, get KO'd like that?
Well let's look at the technicality of what happen to see how much of a power shot it was. What I'm shocked no one mentioned is the fact manny gave hatton a concusion with that punch.
The way u get a concusion is when your brain rocks forward and back hitting both front and back of your skull. 99 percent of the time it's associated with your head whipping back n forth also but with that punch, ricky's head didn't snap back like that. Manny caused the rocking back n forth of the brain as soon as connected without the whiplash like effect of his opponents head. In all of contact sports I have seen someone get a concusion like that. To make it worse manny didn't lunge forward and did it at close range. Also he didn't even sit down that much on his punch that much.
Btw most knockout comes more from the snapping back of the neck. That's why boxers build up their necks to prevent this. Manny ko'd hatton on impact which rarely happens in boxing. Most times it's the snapping back of the head after a power shot that has boxers f*cked.
It was a powerful punch. Otherwise RH wouldnt be out for a few minutes like he was. Dont see that too often.
Some of you guys are getting a bit too butthurt (not the person I'm quoting but, some others). Saying that I'm hyping Mayweather out to be some KO artist or some shit?
Where the hell did you read that in my post?
For what it's worth, I respect Pacman a TRILLION TIMES more in terms of greatness (inside and OUTSIDE the ring) than Mayweather, and I was rooting for Ricky in both of these fights. It's just that I like boxing more than I like BOXERS which allows me to discuss BOXING even when my man gets ****ed up.
Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying it wasn't a powerful punch.
I'm just questioning HOW powerful it was, since his power is being hyped like crazy to the point where I'm seeing Pacs power > Cottos power threads.
I really do think that if the punch didn't land RIGHT on the tip of Rickys chin, people wouldn't be regarding it as such a powerful punch.
There are many factors that come into play regarding that KO punch.
1. Hatton was getting his ass kicked in the whole time. Remember he was KD'd TWICE only less than six minutes prior to the punch so I think it's pretty safe to say he was still trying to fight while stll recovering and trying to get full control over his body again.
2. Hatton walkin INTO it, like previous posters have said, which adds his OWN body weight into the punch.
3. Punching almost ANYONE so accurately on their jaw, with a strike that they didn't see (Ricky literally never even knew the punch was coming) in addition to the points I mentioned earlier would be enough to send them to the floor.
It was a hard punch, but not the devastating supersmash some are making it out to be imo.
