Boxing is like any other business. People invest in fighters and promotional companies to make a profit. Whether you are on the frontline in the boxing community or just make wagers on fight night you are still investing in the sport one way or the other. I am here to help you decide if you are investing in the next Microsoft or the next Enron (since we all know boxing to be filled with shady businessmen). Here is a list I have complied of stocks from last weekends fights:
Manny Pacqiuao: He is by far the Microsoft of the boxing industry. After suffering loses in the beginning of his career and too Erik Morales. He has rebounded nicely and has soared to the sky in value. I myself have make some great investments on the fight with Oscar and Ricky. Though this cash cow could be in for a recession if matched up with Floyd or Miguel at the end of the year but it these match ups if bet correctly can get you a Mercedes Benz.
Ricky Hatton: This stock is tumbling down or so we think. Taking big loses against Floyd and Manny makes on believe he is a shot fighter. This may not be the case however. If matched correctly and trained by lets say Freddie Roach could pay off 1-2 more times. Though if he takes a fight lightly he could send you into to an economic recession
Floyd Mayweather Sr.: His stock will be cheap for an up and comer to get him in his corner. After being embarrased by Freddie Roach and leaving his man at the arena (rumor has it) to beat traffic, who would be interested in investing in this sinking ship? Not this writer.
Freddie Roach: His stock is through the roof right now. He has one of his guys Craig McKewan this weekend battling spoiler Brian Vera but we will get to that later. If Freddie says his guy will win you need to believe it this guy is a Goldmine. He even predicted Bernard Dunne to win the strap.
Daniel Jacobs: The man is a machine an up and comer who is very skilled. Though for his next couple fights he looks like a safe bet he will not come cheap. The same goes for Lara and Korobov also. Though if you have the funds to invest it is basically a guarentee it will pay out for you.
As for this weekends investments:
ESPN2 FNF presents McKewan-Vera. Now I am sure everyone is going to remember when Emmanuel Steward’s Middleweight prospect Andy Lee stepped into the ring with Vera which was supposed to be a coming out party for the Irishman. The party was crashed by the will of Vera who stopped the Prospect in his tracks to pull of one hell of an upset. Even though this fight will not be much of an upset if Vera wins, I do not think it will be the same result. Vera even though he can take a punch he seemed very unmotivated in his Kirkland fight. On the other hand the Roach trained Scotsman has not been in the ring with the best level of competition. The lines aren’t out yet but if they are even stay away but if McKewan is an underdog invest in him. If Freddie Roach did it makes it a good investment.
HBO presents Dawson-Tarver II. Let me make this clear Antonio Tarver has the Magic when it comes to rematches which makes the 9/2 investment pay out look incredible. You have too remember Tarver never rematched “Bad” Chad before. He also seems to win these rematches when the fighters are past their respective primes. Believe me when I tell you there will be no magic there this Saturday even at 1/7 Chad is a sound investment ecspecially with Mother’s Day coming up.
