Is it me or did Pac choose not to really unload on Oscar? Im not sure he threw one punch with the same badassed intent as the one that landed on Hatton? Discuss...
Yeh sure different fighters and different situations...regardless, the question at hand was is if whether Pac "spared" Dela Hoya. We both saw the fightand given Oscar was not punching back and just cowering at a corner, the impression I got was that he didn't unload the way I'm accustomed to seeing Pac finish guys off. As per the topic of the thread So therefore, I believe he did let Oscar off da hook for whatever reason it was. It has nothing to do with how great Oscar's chin was, or the gameplan,.....fact of the matter was, as easy pickings it was for Pac to ko Hatton, it was just as easy for Pac to do it with Oscar at the 6,7,8th rounds. But for whatever reason I BELIEVED HE CHOSE NOT TO...simple as that.
There wasnt much of a difference between Oscar at the 7th annd 8th round...hell even after the 2nd as compared to Hatton. i.e; they were both pretty much defenseless. Nothing stupid about that observation....pure logic. The truth was Oscar was not hitting back and if Pac wanted to unload and take him out he probably could have. Oscar's chin is proven, yes...but it dont matter does it if your defenseless?? The insinuation here is that he let Oscar off da hook. So what exactly is so stupid that?
different fighters. different situation.
watch the fight and listen to what roach tells manny.
have a pinoy translate what buboy tells manny too.
they didn't want manny to get too offensive. they wanted him to just box.
in between rounds they tell him don't get careless and don't get too aggressive.
after the beating he gave delahoya in the 7th and before the 8th , roach tells manny to stay away from oscar because he thinks oscar might go all out for one last round.
manny always follows his instructions.
roach didn't tell him to go for the ko 'til before the 9th. obviously the 9th never began.
most of the hatton fight was pacquiao on the defensive anyway.
when he was aggressive he was missing a lot and hatton was clinching.
the 1st kd punch was a counter hook and the ko punch was when he stopped going for the ko and was boxing.
ricky was coming to him and forcing the issue. that's why he kept getting caught.
oscar was in survival mode. you don't ko guys in survival mode. he wasn't punching back much. that means less openings.
yeah and it wouldv knocked Vitali Klitchko out too right, dumbass
STFU Obviously that would not effect him the same way because his head would not have twisted like that do to him being a hundred pounds heavier but if he took that shot from someone around his weight I think the same would have happened. That is just my opinion.
god you're stupid.
big difference between hatton and oscar , man.
learn something about boxing before you start talking.

Well just imagine if Pac went all out in the 7th or 8th round....what I would give to see the Goldenboy sprawled out like Hatton.

Thats what Im tryn to get at...it didnt seem Pac threw one shot with that much force and leverage not even once. He seemed to be just content with potshotting Oscar to submission. Gameplan or not, he clearly had Oscar for the taking at the 7th and 8th yet he didnt unload like we're used to seeing Pac do when he has someone trouble.
you're trippin.
he unloaded a group of punches on oscar in the 7th.
the 8th roach told him to be careful because oscar might go for broke.
manny can't just throw punches non stop.
he has to slow down at some points or he'll blow his load.
oscar didn't get koed because oscar has one hell of a chin. tell me who has koed oscar? a huge middleweight hopkins and that was with a body shot.
manny has pop at 140 but oscar has taken punches from huge welterweights and huge middleweights.
you can't expect manny to ko everyone. there's some little flyweights that he couldn't ko. things happen. no one has 100% ko ratio unless you're fighting japanese tomato cans every fight like valero.
He focused more on speedy shots in that fight. He wanted to come in, do combos and get out. Hatton said Manny looks off balanced right after he does his heavy punches. Manny couldnt afford to give DLH the opportunity cause he could get KTFO if DLH lands a great punch on him being that DLH's "bigger" and all.
Although I thought Pac went easy on DLH when he backed off from him when he had DLH on the ropes. I dont know if he needed a rest from all that punching or he was being cautious or just doing it out of respect for Oscar.
But after the 8th, Roach knew it was time for Manny to drop bombs so he told him to do so but the fight ended.
My 2 cents.

Pac held back......Roach noticed it to and told Manny he had a job to do now go do it.......it was obvious Manny held back........Manny knew before everybody that Oscar was weak and couldn't do shit......he's in the ring with the dude so of course he felt bad for Oscar........but I'm suprised nobody saw Hopkins pull back and let Pavlik finish........NOBODY ever bought that up and its interesting because even when Hopkins landed that bolo punch after landing something like 5 or 6 unanswered.....he backed off.....but thats another thread......somebody get it started :lol1:
he wasn't holding back.
his corner was telling him to be careful. they were winning the fight.
going into the last round they fought , roach told manny to be careful because oscar might try to go for broke.
the whole time in the corner they wanted manny to not get careless and not to take any unnecessary risks since they thought oscar was still dangerous.
freddie didn't tell manny to go ko him 'til the last time they were in his corner. that's when he told manny to go for it and take him out (funny since that's the round roach bet money on. lol) but obviously oscar quit before the round started.
Pacquioa went out all guns blazing because that's exactly what Roach wanted him to do. He always said it'd be over in three.
With De La Hoya, they were a little bit more cautious of how much he had left in the tank, his height and his reach over Pac. Pacman was told to go easier on De La Hoya and just out work him and was told to try and knock Hatton out.
Think the fight might've gone on longer if Hatton didn't use his chin as his defence mechanism. Where was his gaurd?!

He may not have unleashed out of respect, he may not have released out of caution. Many times a fighter has been winning the fight only to get caught with one punch. Herol Graham spings to mind.

Idk, What I do know is that he was unable to drop an old Oscar.
If he landed that same shot on Oscars chin he would be out cold too. Once your neck turns that fast once it reaches that certain point you are out. that is not something your chin can help.

Oscar is a business partner since he owns golden boy promotions. Pacquiao held back in my opinion, though to give Oscar his pussy ass credit since he discredited everything manny did that night. Oscar did have a better defense then Hatton by miles.
