As a boxing fan,I would say reputation!!!For example,Winky was highly avoided,but not because of his drawing power,it was an excuse not to be dominated by an underatted fighter!!Then u got the Punisher,who is highly avoided,but to real fans,they know whats up!!It's kinda like the lyrics of underground hip-hop,always more deep and poetic as opposed to mainstream fakeness!!!Like for Clottey,everyone is picking Cotto,mainly based on popularity,but Clottey is a-1 material at welterweight!!!

GENERALLY SPEAKING, great fighters have few boring fights. For example: how many PBF fights were boring? How many DLH, Trinidad, Pacquiao, etc fights are boring? You generally can't go wrong with watching the top guys. You just have to get the fans in. The problem with the HUGE superduper Mega-events are that they seldom CAN live up to their billing. SRL-Hagler. Ever watch that? In fact, ever watch SRL-Duran 1 or 2? Here are some of Oscar's big fights that I don't think you would be excited to go back and watch: Hopkins Whitaker Trinidad etc... People remember Oscar as this toe-to-toe guy. The reality is that it was Mayorga, Quartey, Vargas that DRAGGED that out of him. Oscar wasn't exactly providing Gatti-Ward replicas every time out. Nahmean? I always get a chuckle when people say that Floyd (or whoever) is a runner. But he won't get his fights because there's no "public demand" to see him. Thus, the networks won't shell out the money. P-Dub will be a classical example of a "fan's fighter". Shane is a "fan's fighter" with mainstream name recognition, but no mainstream appeal. Which is why he is still begging for fights. When was the last time a Williams fight was not televised? Most people like slugging type fights where both the fighters go head to head. Those kinds of fighters who are consistently in brawls either one-sided or not doesn't matter to some. As a fan, I like action packed fights but just because a fighter does not ko almost all of his opponents every time he is in the ring, that does not make someone boring. I think Sergio Martinez is one of the best boxers out there for example and no one wants to fight him and the networks would rather pretend that he does not exist. He is very skilled and outboxes all his opponents but he does not commit to brawling with people. He seems boring and Letterman runs his big mouth about it the whole time during the fight but that does not mean I'll turn my back on him or not watch his fights. From a boxers standpoint, I guess the money draw would be more important because that is a bigger check. Most big money draw fighters are very skilled as well but tend to have brawls instead of crisp boxing/defensive strategy type matches; that's what sells best. I'll watch any kind o match but that is just me. For a lot of people out there, this fight will be the only one they will watch unless Mayweather/Marquez comes on before December because this fight has the only two fighters that they have ever heard of. A lot of those PPV sales are from the random watcher/fan....not someone who catches almost every fight.
