One of the most commonly used statements to describe PBF greatness is that he became WW linear champ by defeating Baldomir. Even though in theory it was correct, we need to take a look at what Baldo did to win such an honor. (not every day, a bum with Acromegaly is awarded with such an important tittle.)
Baldomir went undefeated from 1999 until 2006. He took care of a weak division back in the day. His best wins came agaisnt an old Gatti, an overconfident Zudah and a young Clottey. The rest of the bums he defeated are not worth mentioning. But then again, Baldomir defended his tittles.
In 2006, PBF defeated him in a boring match by outboxing the slow Baldomir. PBF became the WW linear Champion. He defended his tittle once and it was agaisnt a LWW. Then he retired.
Neighter Baldo nor PBF fought Margarito who was a WW Champ during that time. They both defeated Judah who was another champ during that time. One fought every bum available, the other retired. Who deserves more credit as a linear champion, Baldomir or Mayweather???
So what was the validity of becoming linear champion if you go ahead and don't accept to defend your belt and retire??? We would not be wishing the WW Div to be unified and in search for the next linear champ if PBF would had not retired...
Floyd Mayweather was also the linear champion at 130 back in November 2001. At the same time there were three other champions in this weight all were ranked the top three in the Jr. lightweight division. But did Floyd stick around to beat the best? No he vacated his title moving up in weight and though he became champion in other weights he never really dominated the divisions beating the very best. Winning titles against Gatti and Baldomir aren't much of an achievement. Collecting titles is one thing beating the best is another. Yet just cause of his boxing skills and staying undefeated he was named the best P4P fighter. Consider he was being called the best P4P without still having fought a Hatton or De La Hoya.

All those cats you just mentioned either lost their titles or gave them up. And that's over a five year period. Guess who just so happened to keep his title for ALL five years? Yeah, that guy.
And for whatever reason - NONE of those guys would fight him. None. At one point or another, all of them turned it down. And it wasn't like he was asking them to fight in Mexico. Or had outrageous money demands. He just wanted a shot. We can say what we want about Margarito now--he deserves it. But you can't argue with those facts when speaking of the past.
True, true.
Margarito also had deaf ears. At least Margarito had to fight PW after PW called his sorry ass for years too. PBF just ignore good challenges.
what the hell are you talking abut??margo wasnt the champ..he didnt beat a champ for his belt..he won a vacant belt...forrest was the champ-lost to mayorga-who lost to spinks-who lost to judah-who lost to baldo-who lost floyd....damn stop this dumbass hate shit

That was exactly my point, the risk. You said the KO like it was a sure thing.
Ok, I hear you. "the KO". Hatton was going to get his ass kicked for sure, no doubts. Predicting a KO is safe in this match-up. I betted Hatton was going to lose. KO or UD was not expecified. The end point remains the same. It was an easy fight for a boxer with the caliber of PBF. Another true WW stand a better chance than Hatton.
Take bets live while watching? But you said you everybody knew he would get knocked out, no need to wait till fight time if you know the outcome. Besides there are many sites where you can bet while the fight is taking place, even round props. Since you know how Floyd/JMM is going to go, make you some money.
Believe me, I had no kids, and were younger, I would. My money feeds 5 people, you know the drill.
Fair enough. I already slammed his resume at 40 and 47 in total but, I don't know why he wouldn't want to fight an undefeated Hatton for all that money.
You know, if he didn't, he would look really stupid.
I don't get how you praise the Judah win. Judah lost to frickin Baldomir right before that split two fights with Spinks, not to mention his embarrassment against Zoo earlier.
Judah still was considered a very talented boxer with speed and power. Discipline was his achille's tendon. But let me put it this other way... I publicly critized SSM's and Cotto's wishes to fight the winner of PAC-Hatton. It's focking ridiculous. They should not fight those "dwarfs".
There is a big chance Cotto lands the fight before the 2009 is over. Bob Arum manages PAC. He will make a lot of money in PAC-Cotto. and make the winner fight PBF.
If Cotto doesn't take the fight, he is a dumbazz motherf0cker, true. But after that fight I expect him to unify the Division. Fight Berto, or SSM. I don't expect Cotto to give Paul Malignaggi or Quintana a rematch, and much less "retire", or fight ODLH, or JCCjr. Do you understand my point of view?
There are tons of online sites where you could have bet the win Floyd to win by KO of TKO at 4-1 odds. No excuse.
Dude, I don't bet like that. I take bets live while watching the fight. And is a $100. I think i betted my points here at boxingscene. I found a dumbazz Hatton fan.
If you knew this you would have bet that way and would be rich, now wouldnt you, quit hating, it makes you look bad.
I only found one guy to bet me 100 bucks. Everyone else had Mayweather. I am not the type of guy that will go to Las Vegas and bet thousands. If only I had that kind of money to fly there in the first place, I would had, believe me i would had love to fly to londo and bet over there. Ha! ha! ha!
Hatton was undefeated. The other guys I listed were pretty questionable considering some of their horrific losses.
Dude, don't get me wrong. Hatton is a beast at 140lbs. At that weight he is a tough SOB. That's why I was surprised earlier Today when someone told me PBF was willing to fight Hatton at 140lbs and that Hatton wanted the fight at 147lbs. I am still waiting for the "source". It doesn't make sense, unless Hatton was showing effects of brain damage by then.
I don't respect that win at WW cause many other WWs could had beaten Hatton back then. SSM, Margarito, PW, Kermit Cintron, Cotto, Berto, Clottey, Collazo, Quintana, to name a few. LOL. Just kidding, But not joking, now... there were better true WW options to defend his Linear WW Championship.
I feel Ricky Hatton was Floyd's best win since Castillo.
That's a really legit win. The others, not so much.
I understand him trying to make money, but Sharmba Mitchell ( who got poleaxed by Zoo 2x), Bruseles ( who got ko'ed by 2 bums), Gatti ( who got his ass kicked by a guy I know, and Ivan Robinson 2x not mention P4P Mickey Ward), DLH ( who won exactly 1 fight against Mayorga, before arguably dropping his last 3)
All these guys had crappy losses before floyd even got near him.
Baldomir had exactly one win against Judah (see Zoo above beating the shit of him) and he became lineal.
I do really respect the Hatton win and I do think he won both Castillo fights.
DeMarcus Corley was ok when Floyd fought him he was comming off a loss but it was a close loss to Zab. He was probably the best 140 pounder Floyd beat over Gatti and Bruseles.
The Hatton win is great though, from a pure boxing standpoint it is beuatiful how he sets up Hatton and then takes him out. I really do no recall anyone talking about Floyd knocking Hatton out that was being real, stopped on cuts maybe not stopped.
Everyone knew Hatton was getting his ass KO. Even a lot of Brittish with common sense knew Hatton was going to lose. Hatton barely got a win agaisnt Collazo at 147lbs. Agaisnt Floyd at 147 he did not have a chance. From his last 7 fights, i only true respect his win agaisnt Judah. the rest of them are jokes, specially his last 3 fights. Like Mayweather said from the start, "Hatton is easy money in my pockets... piece of cake." The fight was a major event thanks to Hatton die-hard fans. Some of them even thought Hatton had a shot. LMAO!!!

my point is you cant fight every damn body
In PBF, mostly those that are a real challenge...
williams fans should never say anyone fights smaller people..ever
I am sick and tired of this Larry The Retard. If anyone here is interested in play some poker on line, I will be at Kastalia III at pokerstars.net. Enough of trying to bring sense to a retard. Talking to larry is like trying to teach a donkey about the nuclear bomb theory... Bye!!!
hell naw..it aint even at ww..its below 145
If you come in under 147, it can still be a linear WW title fight. If this was at 149 or 150 then it wouldn't be for the linear WW title.
lmfao..and your a williams fan...all his opponents are way smaller than him
Who is talking about PW, you focking retard... shut the fock up!!! there is another thread named "IS the KEY to getting a Fight with MAYWEATHER calling him out????"... go over there and make them laugh too.
When Floyd was at 130, those 2 where undefeted.
Again Woulda, COulda shoulda, but he didnt!!!!!!!!!
Floyd's last fight at 130 was in 2001, who had Casamayor beat at the time? He had some bullshit belt...
