In the post-fight press conference, Jermain Taylor's promoter, Lou Dibella, said Taylor will likely fight again in September, but did not speculate as to a possible opponent.
Considering this will be a comeback fight, and he is 1-3 in his last four fights, who should he be matched against? Should he be matched against a soft opponent, or another champion?
(not enough options for a "retire" or "rematch" entries, so if you think he should retire or immediately rematch Froch, then post it).
Also, I'm aware Jean Pascal is rumored to be fighting Diaconu at LHW next, but I put him in the poll because until that fight is confirmed, he should be in the mix.
Looks like Green is probably fighting Bute next, so he's out.
Froch isn't looking for an immediate rematch, so that's probably not going to happen either. Plus I doubt Taylor wants an immediate rematch. He needs to let this loss stew for a little while... let the vengence build and manifest itself into some kind of long term goal that will bring the best out in him in his training.
So I'd say the Ward/Miranda loser (the winner has a good chance of being Froch's next opponent), or a former Contender star like Bika or Brinkley. Bika is a dangerous fight too, though.
Allan Green or a rematch with Froch.
Miranda aint all that but he has the pop to KO Jermain again. It'd be exciting but a risky fight, if Jermain lost he'd be totally ruined.
If he doesn't do sumtin bout that stamina any of these guys have a chance to beat em...
My vote goes to the Miranda/Ward loser. He just lost a tuff close fight and should fight someone who is not considered a top fighter to gain some confidence, but still has a good name.
Plus the winner should get a shot with Froch. It is a good fight for Froch and should satisfy his mandatory. I would imagine if Miranda beats Ward he will get the top spot.
Of course Taylor can improve. But I maintain he can't improve by much. He fought a great fight. Froch fought a stinker. I base this on several fights I've watched him in where he has performed far better. I mean, he could knock two rounds off Taylor's scorecard by doing little more than holding his gloves eight inches higher and refraining from wild haymakers which are there to be countered. And we haven't even started on him leading exclusively with the jab and following up with a crisp 1-2 - a tactic that consistently paid dividends despite Froch's seeming antipathy towards it.
I agree with you for the most part. The only problem I have is the notion that Taylor can't win a rematch. There is no certainty in this sport. Froch may be over confident in the next bout and find himself in even more trouble. You just never know.
That is a big assumption. Taylor improved in his rematch with Pavlik and could of won decision if he didn't fade in the late rounds. To assume Froch had a poor performance and not take in to consideration Taylor's brilliant jab and countering for the earlier rounds is foolish. Jermain can hurt Froch and knowing that taking the fight into the later rounds is dangerous, will force Taylor to pounce... and pounce early. IMO it is a winnable rematch. At times he made Froch look foolish in there. Carl knew the stakes before he walked into the ring and the last thing he wanted was a poor showing but it is what he got. I wouldn't bet on Jermain to win as I didn't bet on him the first time but in this sport anything can happen.
14 seconds was all that remained for a victory............

Taylor could re-match Froch until the end of days and not beat him.
He held all the advantages for that fight (home country, home town, crowd, familiarity with the way US TV and boxing operates etc.) and was not far short of the best performance he could deliver at his age.
Froch had all the above against him and delivered - for him - a substandard performance.
In short - Taylor can't improve much whereas Froch is spoiled for choice on where to begin.
Taylor - who is STILL an excellent fighter - has been involved in a number of hard fights recently. For him the priority should be time off with his family and then a tomato can tune-up.
After that he should look at Bute, who won't present him with too many problems.
Taylor was a long way from his hometown, and I think Bute beats him if they do fight.
Taylor needs a big win to bounce back... I think he should fight Kessler just to expose him, thats if kessler's people are man enough to take a little bit of risk

i think he should take a fight with green since green is comin off a win and i think taylor could take that fight pretty handily.
if he does a rematch with froch i think he should do it over in frochs backyard though.
but i think he should be in withsome one tough that he can defintly beat to get his confidence back like a green or bika or someone

for the other smw contender, a rematch with taylor might seem unfair, but personally its the fight i want to see. froch needs to come out and show hes got alot more about him than a big shot and zero defensive skills.
but yeah, think froch will fight someone else first, lose and then fight taylor again.
taylor will likely fight a bum like manfredo, as some have suggested.
i rly wish mora had fought taylor back when they agreed on it.
think mora would of given taylor a painful lesson in counterpunching lol
