Taylor vs Froch was by far one of the best fights I've seen this year IMO.
F**k HBO with their snobbery, Pavlik vs Lockett was on HBO yet an undefeated WBC champion doesn't get a look in.
Well I actually enjoyed watching it, commentry was good and the build up and interviewing before and after the fight was great.

actually I'm pretty sure HBO is happy with the juanma/penalosa fight.
it highlighted juanma (future star in the making), we witnessed the heart of an old champion, and roach was there which will hype up the pac/hatton fight next week.
all in all, I don't think HBO is too sad they didn't pick up froch/taylor
I watched the £9.95 PPV on the web, and thought it was excellent all things considered. Showtime's coverage is very good and the dude with the mustache is probably the best boxing annalist on TV, he seems very impartial, articulate and he's clear in what he says. And you can understand what he's saying unlike Teddy Atlas for example.
You are spot on, Setanta call themselfs the home of boxing, they have their weekly boxing show (steve bunces boxing hour) as well, yet they couldn't get one of our rising uk fighters on the uk network, shocking. They did try and lay the blame on Froch's promoters, hennesy promotion though, saying they wanted to much money, which i don't believe as Froch would have much rather had been watched by the british public then a shitty internet stream. Its about getting your name out there Froch knows this.
I actually think HBO is trying to get better. I mean Taylor underperformed so many times, they gave him the hook.
So there's hope. But you're right they do love them past-prime guys.
But how many times did they have taylor on HBO when he was basically underperforming??? He was on there because he was still a named fighter, People like oscar, B-hop are alway going to get the "HBO treatment" but we have loads of exciting fighters who doesnt get a look in because of this.
B-hop V Tito II would probably be shown by HBO....which indeed is sad.
Yeah, sad isn't it?
Yeah very sad, Am expecting HBO to screen the B-hop v Tito second fight.
HBO would only pick fights that involve a marquee name even if the fight was 50 year old and past his prime but even showtime would want froch or a rematch on their show.
yea showtime has def. been killing hbo this year in getting the better fights.
Theyve got the biggest fight of the year on their network. This will be showtimes only big event the whole year.
I dont think HBO will be too fused.
How many big fights have HBO shown already this year compared to showtime?
Thank you.
showtime did a good job on production last night. i think they just need a star/guest commentator simular to e.steward/L.L.on hbo or teddy atlas on espn to really add the insiders view on the show. i think this addition would put them on par with their competitors.
the new guy kicks the shit out of those 2 annoying dorks they used to have on...
Not broadcasting it live, or any fight for that matter, is wrong in so many ways.
Glad you got a stream.
There was an internet PPV, which was pretty good actually. Didn't want to risk a 'free' stream for this one.
To be fair to Setanta, Buncey said that they had their hat in the ring, as did ITV but Froch and Hennessy just wanted too much. Neither are a public service, they have to generate income more than the cost of a fight to make it worthwhile. And neither is in a particularly healthy state at the moment, ITV advertising revenue is plummeting and Setanta have just lost half (of an already small slice) of their Premier League matches to Sky next time around, which will lose a large number of subscribers. There's blame on both sides.

When they didn't get, say, Berto-Rodriguez live in the UK, I didn't care. But, an undefeated, UK fighter, huge fight, big step up, it had all the ingredients of being a good 'un (Which it was), and no one got it :wtf1:
Someone needs they ass fired!
Wow. Setanta didn't have this? Man, they did screw up big.
It's only been shown in the UK today, on ITV at 11PM. So, we all know the result already..
Luckily, I found a good stream, that didn't cut out, and wasn't choppy generally! Thanks to Tunney :luvbed:
Gutted? I very much doubt it... the potential audience wouldn't know how it would turn out, and would have been relatively small. HBO can buy into Froch's next one.
In the UK Setanta are huge losers, though.... they are viewed as really screwing up big-time on this one, regardless of the actual circumstances. A lot of people are cancelling as this is just the sort of fight people subscribe for Setanta for.. the really massive ones (actually Haye v. Wlad excepted, due to Haye's contract with Setanta for his own promotions) will always be on Sky Sports PPV, anyway.
