Wow, it made it to court? Court costs money. They could have just let it go or if they wanted money (like some cities want...cough...Philly...cough), they could have just written a ticket. Family fight is nothing unless someone gets stabbed or shot and even then, you don't have to press charges if there is an "understanding." I fought my brother outside in the streets when we were young and nobody called the cops; they just watched until we finished.

they have nothing to win and everything to lose by pressing charges so this was to be expected

I figured this would happen. If one presses charges on the other and the other retaliates they are both in trouble.. so might as well leave it at that and nothing comes of it. It's better for both of them. When both your skins are on the line you can bet they ain't gonna file any complaints.

Yea I figured nothing was going to happen. The police at the end of the day need cooperation to start charging people. If neither is going to press charges it'll get thrown out of court. Worst case scenario a restraining order.
