Welcome to the sport of boxing, no longer about economy, accuracy and defense, its about whoever throws the most.
Once again last night the Judges and idiot tv commentators gives rounds to a guy for throw loads of punches regardless of whether they land.
I had williams clearly winning the fight, but not by shutout, nowhere near, early on Winky caught alot of williams shots on his gloves and was landing jabs, and hooks, early on I thought winky was landing the cleaner shots. Some of you may disagree but i had it 116-112 to williams, I just cant give rounds to guy who lands about 4/80 punches, then gets hits with clean jabs and hooks.
This is what the sport is becoming, it doesn't reward accuracy anymore, any cunt can go in and throw more shots than other guy, miss them, and get a chance at the decision.
F.uck Lederman and f.uck this 'busier guy' shit, its about LANDED PUNCHES, not punches getting caught by gloves and arms.
If it's about accuracy then Jones beat Calzaghe (58% of power punches vs Calzaghe's 26% power punches landed) ]
Calzaghe threw more and landed that straight left that cut Jones but Jones blocked a whole lot. Still, Calzaghe won due to his workrate and Jones' "inactivity".
Power Punches Calzaghe Jones
Landed 224 147
Thrown 623 326
Pct. 35% 45%
Round 1 was the only round that I thought was a case of quantity vs. quality... Wright won it.
The rest were just too much by Williams. He missed a lot, he landed a lot... that's what happens when you through 300,000 punches in a 12 round fight.
No problems. I think the above arguably applies to some of the other rounds as well because some of them were close.
If I see Winky catching 5 shots on gloves, then landing a clean hook to the ribs, i got winky with the advantage because he landed that one clean shot. I cant just give it to williams because he threw 5 shots.
Winky's defense is deceptive both ways. Sometimes he gets too much credit. Look at his face even early on. Just because he partially blocks the punches doesn't mean they dont have an impact. In this case I thought a lot of Williams punches got through. When lamps and co. were talking about Winky blocking most of the punches early on, I was befuddled.
Hold on, Williams in the fight as a whole landed more punches than Wright and clearly won this fight.
Im talking about Specific rounds where he was hitting gloves, and wright was landing clean hooks, hooks to the body, jabs. No way was that fight a shutout, wright had a case in a few of the early rounds I think.

I also had it close in the 1st 7 rounds. All rounds including 7 onwards went to williams. As i said before, you get these guys who cant spot what lands and what doesnt land, im telling you, i saw winky landing hooks to the body, hooks to the head and lampley wasnt calling them.
Williams clearly won, but its this kind of shit which costs fighters fights, if you try to be economical you likely get screwed.
Ask yourself, who in boxing right now can win decision against paul williams?
Is that because he is such a talented fighter, or because he throws so many punches you know the judges will give round regardless of whether they land?
Carlos Quintana won a decsion against him.
The guy who throws 100 punches deserves to win the round far more than the guy who throws 30. Maybe if the inactive fighter was effective enough with his counters they wouldn't throw so many punches.
Winky barely won 1 round dude. Give up. Even the punches he landed weren't effective.
Wtf ever... in a fight where compubox has percentages even (I mean, seriously, how far can they be off? Enough to make up for the punch output differential? HELL NO), and Williams more than doubles Wright's output... I see no way that you can make arguments like... Williams was winning just because he threw. Make no mistake, he was landing, and he was actually landing significant shots too.

You tell me who looked like the winner of that fight.
I had Williams winning every round. You tell me who looked like the winner last night. How you gave Winky more than 2 rounds is absurd.
Compubox is not infallible, Jeezzzz, that system is known to count punches that dont land, and again, one of the rounds I gave wright was very close, so im happy with 9-3 as a score. But the point is, williams was getting credit for landing punches early on which just did not land. Later on in the fight, he landed ALOT more clean punches, but I think early on winky was picking off alot of his shots.
I dont need Compubox. I saw Williams landing plenty of punches through or over Winky's guard. Even a partially landed punch is better than one that is not thrown.
I also think you are neglecting the fact that Williams completely controlled the fight. Ring generalship counts too.
It's sad, but true.
As I said, Williams clearly won it, there's no disputing that.
But going into the 7th round I had it 3-3. Wright won at least 3 of those early rounds in my eyes.
It's a shame that judges don't follow their own criteria for judging a fight, defense is tossed out the window, ring generalship is tossed out the window, and effective aggression is tossed out the window as well.
He who throws the most punches, always wins the round.
Call me crazy but if fighter A throws 100 punches and lands 25 of them, but fighter B throws 50 punches and lands 35, I'd rather be the guy who threw less and connected more. You're conserving your energy by not throwing that much, you're dishing out more damage by being more accurate, and you're exposing the other guy as a glorified windmill with no talent.

I gave Wright round 1 convincingly.
The other 2 rounds I gave him where the consecutive rounds where Williams slowed down, and took the rounds off for the most part. I think they were rounds 4 and 5 but I'm not positive.
Paul was just basically dicking around those 2 rounds though. He was still throwing, but his output wasn't what it was just a few rounds earlier, and his connect percentage in those rounds was piss poor.
I was really excited after round 1, worried after round 2 and had lost all hope for a Wright win after round 3.
That fight was so obviously over so early... Wright couldn't keep up, he couldn't KO Williams and Williams was obviously not going to slow down.
That said, I thought Wright looked ****ing terrific after 21 months off... man, he looked sharp. Honestly, he can still make some noise at 160 if he is not fighting a volume puncher (which has always been his worst style matchup anyway), because his timing and punches were both really good last night.
I gave Wright round 1 convincingly.
That is the only round I gave wright, and I was rooting for Wright but Williams gain my respect last night so I wish him luck. And I don't care if you ppl call me bandwagon jumper, the dude fought amazingly last night and gained my respect and is making me a fan :)
This thread is terrible... compubox had them both landing 23% of their punches, Williams more than doubled Wright's output (which means he landed more than double the punches too), and Wright is clearly not the harder puncher.
I have no idea how you gave 4 rounds to Wright.
Rounds 1 and 4 (or 5, can't remember which one it was... the one Lederman gave to Wright) were all I could give to Wright, and he's my favorite fighter.
UGH, this fight was really painful to watch.

busy = effort.
sometimes i think he should just give a point to some of the guys because they train hard. lederman scores aren't always correct... but he's the closest mind to a real judge as you get... and let alone hear the opinion of.

This is what I said to run w/ knives last night concerning my fight prediction.

I had it 117-111 for Williams.
Williams clearly earned the decision, but your point is well taken.
Judges only care about workrates these days it seems. They favor number of punches thrown over ring generalship, defensive, and clean, effective aggression.
This is what I said to run w/ knives last night concerning my fight prediction.
I gonna guess and go for Williams UD, he punches alot and judges are dumb as f.uck in this day and age, these days its like whoever throws the most punches wins.
Guys who look busy usually nick rounds without landing jack, they win rounds because they're aggressive and throw their arms about just to look like they're busy and land 1 in 20 punches in a flurry.
CompuBox is the biggest load of shit as well.
Its bollocks, again to me williams CLEARLY won, im not disputing that, but some of the early rounds went to winky imo, I cant score for gloves punches, and HBO knew those punches werent landing because they spent the beggining of the fight arguing about why they were going to give rounds to williams based on the amount he threw.
As for Lederman.....the worst scorer in boxing hands down.
