Who is P4P if Mayweather returns ? lets say Mayweather has a tune up and he is an active fighters again who is P4P? because he never really lost his status really, although i guess you could argue " no Pacquiao just overtook him"
Thoughts............
Pound for Pound status is mythological. It can be debated, argued, reevaluated; because it's based on achievements, regardless of weight, and centers on who did you fight, where did they factor into the division, and how did you win?
If two fighters had the exact same resume, but one knocked out more of the common opponents, there's a very good chance he'd been seen as the better pound for pound fighter. Why? The way in which he won.
Further, if a wrecking ball like Valero knocks out everyone, but doesn't fight any big names, a feather fisted competitor of his, like Juan Diaz, would definitely be ranked higher due to his resume, despite not winning by devastating fashion.
Floyd knocked out Hatton, who had shown he was probably too small for welterweight in the past (late in the Collazo fight), but did so in impressive fashion against a highly ranked challenger, and so got his props.
Since he left, though, other fighters have continued to achieve.
Pacquiao:
1.) Beat the man who is now ranke #2 pound for pound and whom Floyd is talking about coming back against in a fight for the WBC strap.
2.) Moved up in weight to capture yet another title, against solid- if not very respected- David Diaz, though he battered the man; and this was a move up in weight to capture yet another title.
3.) Pounded Oscar like a drum. Just awful. Domination.
4.) (Hypothetically) Beats Ricky Hatton. For argument let's say it's a good UD.
Now enter previous pound for pound star Mayweather:
1.) In decemeber of 2007 KO's Ricky.
2.) Makes a comeback with a sharp, good looking UD against Marquez.
.....Well....I mean, Manny already beat that same Marquez, so it doesn't allow Floyd to leap frog him- especially if Manny just beat, or knocked out, the last man Floyd had fought two years earlier in Hatton.
Really, Pacquiao is a clear favorite as he moved up in weight, took another belt (something Floyd has always been more than proud of flaunting when he did it) and destroyed Oscar.
It's def. still Manny. Floyd has to fight for it.
I'm a big fan of Ricky Hatton, I hope he crushes Pacman so I don't have to see his overrated face again :).
lol..from a big Hatton fan saying Pac is overrated..lol

Name and shame.:spank:
Pacquiao by most peoples estimation has a better resume than Mayweather so ..........how could he possibly be the better fighter, if he has not BEATEN better fighters? That just does not make sense to me.
The only case you could make is that Mayweather is still undefeated and Pac isn't, but then you could counter that by saying, if Mayweather had the sheer amount of fights Pacquiao has had, and the amount of quality fighters, then he to would of a lost.
Its true, it applies to any sport really. If the "best" retires...n floyd was the best p4p figher when he retired....So if they did retire n take a year n a half or so break, when they come back of course every1 is going to EXPECT them to pick up where they left off..
so a normal person is going to expect more of floyd, and him to come back with a bang to prove hes still the fighter he was..in order for him to prove hes still number 1. Yeah it will be a tune up fight first, but it doesn't have to be a sloppy fighter just to prove he still has it. If he came back with a big fight and won it...in my eyes he will reclaim that pfp #1 spot. Even tho i think pacman would give him a run for his money, i think if he beat some1 like JMM (dunno if tht would happen) but a high profile person, he takes his spot back and i think its down to pacman to take the spot from him in a fight as im sure they could meet at a weight they are both comfortable at...light welter maybe? Especially if pac beats hatton, will probs tempt floyd even more. (Thats if he is willing to fight the best)
you are the first person to be honest about the reality of the situation
I can guarantee you that all of these posters will demand more of Mayweather when he comes back then they will of pacquaio.

No, sir. You are being immature.
It's not "what makes me feel I know more". It is fact. You belittle yourself with that attitude. I'm trying to share information with you....why close your mind?
Floyd had been P4P #1 for approximately three years. There were always a small minority of writers who voted Pac #1. It was not unanimous, but PBF's #1 standing was not "in dispute".
And I CLEARLY said that the mythical p4p crown has to be earned IN THE RING. Floyd hasn't fought in nearly 2 years, ahile Pac and JMM have been knocking kniccas out.
It is similar to when USC is number 1 in BCS, but Oklahoma has a few first place votes.
Sorry... did'n mean to... I did not close my mind... I closed the forums to get rest... been on the forum boards for more than 8 hours.
when I woke up walker is killing arreola. want a link?
He's got better skills than Pac and talent wise he's p4p but he just can't walk straight back into the number 1 spot. It's like saying if Marciano were still alive and came out of retirement would he be the number 1 heavyweight going around because he never lost and was at the top when he retired?
id be pissed at both, but you cant compare katsidis and bradley katsidis lost 2 of his biggest fights when he came to the us bradley just showed he can compete here in the us but id be pissed at both i want them to fight elite guys
No Pick one.
Stop being a bitch and make a choice.
In your opinion which of those fighter out of
Pacquiao and Floyd made a tougher choice of opponents
between Michael Katsidis and Timothy Bradley.
if they made those choices
and who would you criticize more..
yea by demanding ill say fight a real threat u bitch that will be me demanding
Which match up would you be more mad at..
Pacquaio vs. Michael Katsidis
or
Mayweather vs. Timothy Bradley
I can guarantee you that all of these posters will demand more of Mayweather when he comes back then they will of pacquaio.

What? You don't think Floyd could have dried down and fought at lightweight forever?? He didn't move up because he had to. He moved up for the big money fights.
He moved up because of BOTH reasons. He was no longer comfortable at LW, and most big money fights are at higher weight class.
How can you leave the sport (retire), come back years later and then expect to be rated above everyone else who has been consistently fighting?
that's ****ing stupid.
How about we bring Ali back. I'd rate him above everyone else.
In that case.
Knifes it has always been this way, and I dont see it changing no time soon.
FLOYD WILL COME AS #1, IN THE PEOPLES MIND AND GENERALLY IN THE SPORT.
Floyd is in the same position as Jordan, when Jordan retire the first time after he won 3 championships and he said he was bored with the sport.
Jordan wasnt the greatest ever at that point, but he was on the cusp of becoming that, but at that time Jordan was the best in the sport when he retired. And when he returned although he had been retire for 2 years, he still was the best in the sport even though Hakeem Olajuwon was dominating when Jordan was gone.
It is like this.
Generally Once you are considered the best, you do not lose that position in the people's mind until you lose in convincing fashion.
It happen with Tyson when he return to boxing after he went jail. he was still considered #1 even though he didnt fight for what 3 years.
but when he came back, he still was #1 in the people and majority of the sport mind that he was #1.
It Happen with Ali when he got banned from boxing. He came back @1
It Happen SRL when he retired from boxing because of his eye. He came back @1
and it will happen with Floyd when he comes back.
It is just the way it is...
Once Floyd comes back to the sport he will have all the expectations of being the #1 fighter in sport. MARK MY WORDS..
People will treat floyd the same way they treated him before he retired.as the #1 fighter in the sport.
they will treat him as the #1 fighter in the sport.
Until Floyd loses he is P$P also considering Pacman has been brutally KO'd twice Floyd easy...He has Never Lost Ever and until he does or is too old to fight he's the king.
This is the definition of delusional nuthugging right here.

You do realize that Manny at Lightweight was weighing the same on fight night as Floyd at Junior Middleweight.
Does that not tell you something?
Pac is NATURALLY the smaller man compare to Floyd. 'You ever heard of fighting weight? A 130 Joan Guzman most of the time shows up 150+ at fight night. But that doesn't mean he can take on middleweight guys.
