I have become accustomed to making ridiculous predictions, like saying that Chris Byrd would get knocked out as a light-heavyweight and that Nate Campbell could beat Juan Diaz. Clearly, I'm a nutcase.
I truly believe that Paul Williams will beat Winky Wright because Winky's footwork is too slow. Winky does not fight well at range and from what I've seen of late, Williams is starting to make better use of his reach.
Wright is the kind of guy who prefers to get in close where he can chop with his punches and I don't think Williams will give him that terrain.
That said, I think Yuri Foreman is the perfect style to beat Paul Williams. He is very quick on his feet, if completely lacking in punching power. He moves in and out faster than anyone at 154, has a strong chin and a very good amateur background. I think he has the style to make Williams' long limbs work against him and befuddle him ala the first Quintana fight.
I know a lot of people will call me crazy because obviously a big name cannot lose to a lesser known fighter but just think about it for a second.
I think that's a fair assessment even after Foreman's loss to Cotto.
And Williams looked a little shaky in the fight against Cintron regardless of the weird outcome of the fight. But Williams will still land punches with the volume he throws, can Foreman take them and can he land something to keep Williams off him at least in spots? Dont know, probably not.
Foreman's movement may give Williams some trouble but you can't base it on the Cintron fight. William's corner told him that bad fight plan and Williams did it. They told him to counter punch. Once Williams got fed up of that bad plan he was hitting Cintron. More importantly, William's corner was worried about Cintron's power. That's the main reason why the fight was boring during those first 3 rounds. Foreman does not have that kind of power so you will not be seeing the same from Williams.
Like I said, I can see the movement giving Williams problems but that's it. Looking at the way Foreman went down, he may not be able to move as well as previously. I have Williams winning this one

Huh???? yes because Cintron landed 2 out of 76 jabs right???
Well, I guess that just makes Cintron that much bigger of a pussy then since he was doing great and then quit all of a sudden then according to your logic. Right?
This guy needs his head examined. Williams might not be the most beloved fighter on this site, but he would never lose to that scrub.
Williams was Making Kermitt Cintron look like Pernell Whitaker!!!!!
I'm telling you, watch. I very rarely make bold predictions like this unless I am very certain. Wright is not going to be able to deal with Williams longer flurries. His legs just don't have it anymore. If Williams uses any of his height and turns, Wright will be so far behind him.
you have a bright future as a boxing writer, lol
I thought Williams over Winky was a pretty easy prediction. I kinda figured especially after the long layoff, Williams high work rate would be on display the entire fight.
As for Williams-Foreman. I can definitely see Foreman winning and see this as a 50-50 fight. The Sergio fight was close because Sergio still traded with Williams which is dangerous which would know Foreman wouldn't do. I think Foreman could dance around all night dodging Williams punches if Williams was his normal aggressive self. But I think if he used his range right, he could probably smoke Foreman out of there.
I wouldn't compare Cotto-Pac to Cotto-Foreman at all. You mentioned in 2 different paragraphs that Foreman is bigger, and then Pac was too quick for him. The main reason I believe for Pac schooling Cotto is that Pac was too fast AND most importantly too small. He was so small and moving so fast Cotto couldn't see sh*t coming. But Foreman he'll be able to chase and see coming. As you said Foreman hasn't been against anybody like Cotto which is where i base my pick on Cotto winning, even stopping Foreman.
Body punching will be a factor here as I see Cotto hammering at the body all night and we'll see how Foreman deals with that and if he durable for that. If he is I still see Cotto taking a decision but I think Cotto will wear him down and stop him. Cotto usually does well with good boxers(see the Paulie fight & Judah, even the quintana fight) All defensive minded boxers who Cotto destroyed. Especially with Manny in his corner I think Cotto definitely has the tools to take this fight. he seems motivated and I just can't bet against him, especially since Foreman doesn't have the power. If Pacman was feather fisted, Cotto would have had a better shot because I don't think he would have been discouraged as he was. I think he could dig deep down even if he was losing to Foreman just because Foreman isn't hurting him.
Nice calls though.
What people underrate about Foreman is his punching power. He has a little pop in that right hand, which is why you don't just see people running in on him like you do Paulie Malignaggi. He just doesn't have knockouts because he doesn't fight for the KO.
Williams is a fighter that gets out of position a lot when he throws punches. Foreman is a guy that is quick enough to get in and then get out in time to avoid the reprisal of Williams.
Foreman is definitely a difficult style for Cotto since Cotto hasn't been boxing on his toes in a long time. It seems that ever since he moved up to welterweight he has stopped boxing and has been plodding in flat-footed trying to knock everyone out. Against a much bigger Foreman that just won't work.
The only morons underrating Yuri on this website are the Cotto haters. They want to rub it in like jack asses if Yuri beats Cotto. Yet, they are the same haters claiming Cotto is going to destroy Yuri... I hate the ****ing morons on this website, there are alot of good posters though, but I hate the morons.
how do you see the cotto foreman fight going?
I haven't had a chance to watch Yuri train yet but I will next Tuesday at the open workout in Brooklyn. I should know more by then.
Here are the three points I have in my head:
1) Yuri Foreman has never fought anyone on the class and accomplishment level of Miguel Cotto. Even though he beat Daniel Santos, it was against a Santos that was coming off a long gap of inactivity.
2) Miguel Cotto is coming off a terrible beating at the hands of Pacquiao and had a lot of trouble dealing with the speed and movement of Pacquiao. Foreman's movement is a lot different from Pacquiao's but he can be a nightmare for a plodding Cotto.
3) Foreman is much bigger than Cotto. Cotto started at 140, Foreman is bursting out of junior-middleweight.
And you think this why, because Foreman isn't "a big name"?
Nobody has dropped Foreman and Williams isn't a big puncher, but you think he KOs Foreman? If you haven't seen Foreman and don't have an educated opinion on the subject, just let us know.
I seen this cat on an undercard last year, and the year before that I jus think PWILL throws to many punches and on top of that foremen aint got the pop to hurt Williams name or no name PWILL gives anyone a hard fight
I get where you are comming from, although I think Foreman would actually do kind of well against Williams I think he would fall short in the end.
I am interested in seeing Williams against anyone really, he is a tough matchup for anyone, but he gets hit clean (much to often) so very good punchers and very good boxers may be able to take advantage. Williams most likely will do good against any pressure fighter that he faces but it would be a good scrap.
It really is hard to see anybody beating Williams with the amount of punches he throws, but it can happen. I mean, it has happened.
I'd say Abraham would beat Williams if he could make the weight but Williams would beat Pavlik. I like Abraham's defense over Pavlik's in this style, plus Pavlik's feet aren't exactly swift. Angles.
Daniel Santos would be an interesting style matchup for Williams, if he has anything serious left in the tank.
This guy is drunk, foremen gets KO'd 100 times out of 100
