This happens pretty much anytime a fighter comes along with a little bit of "pop". He knocks out some guys and the general public and casual fans instantly fall in love with him and label him a world beater.
Not that long ago I remember comparisons of Kermit Cintron to Tommy Hearns........
The bottom line is Valero is a pretty good fighter, but that's about it from all I've seen of him.
He was very sloppy last night against Pitalua, particularly when he was going in after the first knockdown.
I didn't see the "calm, calculated finisher" that the commentators told me he was.
I saw a guy who was headhunting, missing half his shots, and having the other half of his shots either partially blocked, or barely grazing Pitalua while he tried his best bob and weave.
LOL @ the Valero hype train.
I've seen a lot of Valero's fights and I can say that he has improved technically, he's not overcommiting as much, using his jab more, is more controlled but with that being said, I was a little disappointed because the word coming out of the gyms was that Valero had improved drastically and I didn't see that, he has improved but it's nowhere near as much as some writers have made it out to be. His power can get him by against a lot of people but I don't think it will against the cream of the crop at lightweight. If he keeps improving and correcting his fundamentals, he'll be a very tough guy to beat though.
Valero is beyond ripe to be picked apart. I think Marquez can do it if they fought. It's just Valero is a fighter that I personally can't, and won't deny. Somthin about him looks familiar enough to support. As much as I want to like him and probably will like him, I'd still go for Antillon over him. I think if you take the head gear off of each fighter and let each fighter work of eachothers punches...I think Antillon will find a way to win in incredible fashion. Urbano is just too accurate and strong I think. But even still, I'm actually lookin forward to seein Valero rip shit up in his career in the states.
Ha! Marquez takes too many shots to the face. If light-hitting Diaz could bust up his face, you know Valero will beat him to a bloody pulp. Antillon might beat him, but he hasnt proved himself, and his opponents arent even contenders for world title fights.
i think valero is a guy that should be takin seriously....but i let him clean out some more legit guys at 135, before he gets a big money fight.....let him fight guys like casamayor, and juan and david diaz
this are good suggestion for valero's next fight and would also like to see him against katsidis ...
imho the hype is good, if he keeps on winning, he may just win the pacman lottery...
The last person I can remember in my mind that got KO'd that fast for a title match Jones vs. Tarver and Tyson vs. Berbick. No hype when you can do it under 2 and win a major title. That's some serious work.
Lol I bet you dont see Juanma fight do you?

I agree 100%. I am not going to write Valero off completely, but when he goes aginst a slick boxer with power, he is going to lose.
About the thread. Every bg puncher always hets overhyped.
But I think Valero do have some skills, they just need to be polish.
And now, that he is being train by alcaza, youll see a big improivement technically wise. Alcazar is a underrated trainer. he is damn good.
And anyways, wasnt Manny Pacquaio a 1-2 come forward guy, for most of his career? and now, he has become a great combination puncher, with great movement and a tight defense and he is P4P number 1.
Gice Valero some time. hell improve. With his new trainer and with good training he can improve a lot!!!!!!
but roach got pac when pac was young; valero might be too set in his ways
Zab Judah is a gatekeeper, Edison Miranda is a gatekeeper, Kermit Cintron is a Gatekeeper, Juan Diaz is no gatekeeper.
what do all those guys have in common???
they all fail at the elite level.
diaz is a gatekeeper.
yeah, but juan diaz came up short 2x... once against campbell and again against jmm... both are the best boxers that diaz has ever fought and he failed twice.
diaz is a gatekeeper.

Juan Diaz is no gatekeeper. He gave JMM a life or death fight.

diaz is a gatekeeper.
juan diaz a gate keeper? not in my book. he just fought a fighter i would basically signify as that. time to step into the bigs.
pitalua a gatekeeper??? nikka plz!!!
actually I'd like to see him fight a gatekeeper first... someone like juan diaz or katsidis or soto

Do you think he's the destroyer of Manny Pacquiao, like many on here have claimed for the last year or so?
haha...I found that funny.
Did you all know that Pacquiao's original nick was "The Destroyer"
he eventually became the PacMan because most commentators can't pronounce his name right so he got PacMan out of ManPac or MANny PACquiao.
Co-sign. That's the Philly charm right there. This thread is supposed to be about a Venezuelan, and Hopkins took it over.
saw that coming too, Valero can't even get a decent thread without being:hijacked:

he's a big puncher, but has shown little else. like to see him in with a top fighter.
