It looks like Bernard Hopkins might be ready to call it quits from the ring. Hopkins who will debut tonight as a ringside analyst for Golden Boy's "Lightweight Lightning" show (HBO PPV, 9 p.m.) in Austin, Texas, was recently quoted by Chris Mannix for CNN's Sports Illustrated in regards to his future inside the ring.
Hopkins tells the publication that there is a very good chance that we will not see him inside the ring again. "There is a great chance you won't see me fight again," stated Hopkins.
Hopkins went on to add: "That's not bad. You got to see one of the greatest fights of my career (vs Pavlik). Every football player who has won rings will say it's great to win one on the way out."
It's funny how you and other calzaghe fans criticize hopkins so much and say he's not all that and didn't accomplish much, etc. not realizing that by doing this it only makes calzaghe look like shit even more considering the fact calzaghe fought and barely got a decision against a 43 year old version of hopkins. Idiots. You should do the same as you do with kessler and hype up hopkins to make joe look like a god. You're only hurting your cause (which is dick riding calzaghe all day/every day).
i dont care about boosting resumes because im not pathetic like you.
Wonderful career for bernard.
defended the IBF middleweight title for 6 years (19 times)
defended undisputed middleweight title (wbc, wba, ibf) 6 times.
beat antonio tarver for the ibo light heavyweight title.
notable victories over: segundo mercado (2nd fight), felix tito trinidad (gave him his first loss and KO), oscar de la hoya (his first KO loss), kelly pavlik (his first loss).
bernard is HANDS DOWN a legend.
not even a ballot can determine him if he's eligible for the HOF.

Well said.
I genuinely think sometimes Calzaghe fans are being sarcastic, and say things just to have a laugh, i really struggle believe their serious all the time.
You're talking rubbish now.
Comparing ages is meaningless in Boxing. The MW division was and still is leagues better than the SMW division. But if you want to play a numbers game, here you go:
Calazghe had Warren on his side, and had probably the most engineered career in boxing.
Whereas Hopkins had nothing, and make it the old fashioned way. Face and beat everyone and work your way up, with no hand outs.
As soon as Hopkins became champ, he unified the division in 6 years, again Trinidad, who was 2-1 favourite, expected to end Hopkins career.
He faced arguably the best opposition and has an impressive resume.
Calzaghe on the other hand took the WBO belt, and held the shabby belt in the worst division for 7 Years. (where Hopkins unified his division in 6).
It took Calzaghe a whole friggin decaded to unify his division.
It's not as if Calzaghe was coming of losses in his career, he was udnefeated, but hand picked his opponents, and finally, after a decade, unifed and his best wins were against : Kessler, Lacy.
Once about to retire, he faced Hopkins and RJJ at the combined age of 83! Even then, he stole a SD against Hopkins.
Tell me Boxasmash, why did Joe not move to the States to face these two before they were old, passed it and about to retire? Answer that !
you cant honestly praise hopkins and discredit calzaghe and keep a straight face. trinidad did sweet **** all at 160+, who cares if he was the favourite going into the fight, people overrate fighters, it happens.. just look at jeff lacy.
hopkins unified in 6, calzaghe unified in 7.. again big deal. hopkins is american, he has more opportunities than calzaghe, none of those german ******s wanted any of joe (ottke etc). all of hopkins' biggest wins came against smaller fighters than himself besides tarver and johnson who were not at their best at the time. hopkins' best wins at 160 were trinidad (LOL, he is 3-3 at 160+ and 2 were bums) and de la hoya (1-1 and 1 was a robbery) two midgets. why would calzaghe have to come to america to fight hopkins? he can draw 50,000 in wales, hopkins cant draw flies to shit.
calzaghe went on to beat hopkins after too and hopkins has two embaressing losses to jermain taylor to cope with on his resume, after watching his last few fights that has got to reduce someones legacy loosing to him
so hopkins unified at 36 when calzaghe unified at 33. hopkins only established himself as a top fighter at 36.
age is just a number, Hopkins proved that time and time again
You're talking rubbish now.

Expect Calzaghe fans to accuse both of them of 'Ducking' Calzaghe

Er.. No dude. What are you dumb ?
He became champ years earlier. But unified the division at 36.
After 36, as an established HOF, he then beat Joppy, C Daniels, Allen, Oscar DLH, Eastman, Tarver, Winky and Pavlik.
All huge bouts.
Whereas at 36, Calzahe's best wins are Lacy(lol) and Kessler.
The biggest Joke in his carer is his dodgy SD win against 43 year old Hopkins, which just goes to show what he really is about.
so hopkins unified at 36 when calzaghe unified at 33. hopkins only established himself as a top fighter at 36.
so hopkins finally became establish at 36? thanks for answering my question.

you didnt asnwer my question.
what did hopkins' resume look like at 36? if calzaghe can make money in the uk why should he have to go to america to fight, he was the MAN at 168 like klitschko is at heavyweight, he makes haye come to germany. joe could make people come to the UK.
funny hopkins pulled out of a fight with joe back in 2001, the pussy.
Damn, i knew Aussies were dumb, but you take the biscuit son.
Bernard Hopkins became established as an elite boxer in 2001, once he beat Trinidad and unified the MW division.
Calzaghe has never been an elite boxer. It took him 10 years, yes, a whole friggin decade to unify the worst division in Boxing. Then finally made the move to the states to face RJJ and Hopkins once they were at the combined age of 83.
As for pulling out, listen son, YOU have not answered the question. in 2001, Calzaghe was a nobody. He held a lame belt in the worst division. There is a reason nobody could be bothered with him, it's because he is a nobody, and nobody is going to go Wales, to face someone with a pathetic belt, in a pathetic division.
I mean who is going to go to Hungary to face Balzay (or whereever he is from) to take his belt in the lame SMW division. Where Balzay is in the same position as Calzaghe was for half his career.
Don't flatter yourself mate, Sorry, but joe is a fraud.
Goes to show what a bad joke you really are.
Hopkins and RJJ had the infamous argument, where Hopkins told him to face him, if they wanted, at catch weight. But RJJ kept making excuses, saying he wanted more money etc.
Dude, Whether Hopkins left the US or not is not the case.
Fact is, wherever the Main guys are, challengers go to face THEM.
RJJ and Hopkins are both Americans hence their bouts took place there.
Just like Klitschko is making Haye face him in Germany, because Wlad is the champ. Only difference is, Haye is not a a fraud like calzaghe, and when he says he wants the title shot, he actually does it. Whereas Joe just made excuses, staying in Europe facing mediocre opposition.
I mean it's like saying the current WBO SMW Champ "Balszay" saying to the p4p best to come to Hungary or wherever he is from to face him. I mean why would anyone do that?
a) He is a nobody
b) No Money
c) Better options.
Same case with Calzaghe when he "wanted" to face RJJ and Hopkins. Damn.. Even with Glen Jonhson he pulled out TWICE due to "Hand Injuries". Which is nonsense as Frank Warren pointed out once he was sacked.

Why would he move up to fight him when he already fought him way before he even had the title dummy. Fighting prime Jones by the way is 10x better then anything Calzaghe ever did so technically Hopkins resume before he was champ is better then Calzaghe's whole career.
lolz. hilarious but true
thats priceless.
calzaghe hardly ever fought in wales and hopkins' defences at middleweight are hardly amazing, why didn't he move up to fight jones? infact what did hopkins's resume look like when he was the same age as calzaghe (37) ?. hopkins left the usa twice and his record is 1-0-1.
theres a reason hopkins skipped 168 for 175.
it wasn't because of calzaghe
thats priceless.
