Prepare to read the worst article in journalistic history
Yeah, this sort of thing comes out every so often. The moral high ground brigade. It's very narrow minded how the person assumes they're watching it purely for blood lust, without considering that some may view it as more of an art than a bloody fight. There also seems to be an assumption that the celebrities are in another World and don't realise what's going on. But that is utter nonsense. Thare are celebrities who've actually participated in boxing and know what it's about.
The person has used the ''working class'' line as well I see, without considering that there's been a number of middle class people who are very intelligent and capable of making their own decisions who have taken up boxing. The only people who have been taken advantage of are the boxers who are good enough to earn promoters money, which is a small amount of people. Why no mention of amatuer boxing, which has a very good safety record?
Ban professional boxing because there are risks? How about banning alcohol and cigarettes and everything else that damages humans then? How about just becoming a nanny state where consenting adults have to go 'underground' to do the things they want to do, and therefore create an even bigger problem?
''They were indulging their most primeval instincts'' Having sexual desire is pretty ''primeval'' as well. I'm not sure if that makes it a bad thing though. I wonder if Ray indulges in any primeval activities. Unless you're out sacrificing your life to humanity, you have no right to try and take the moral high ground like these idiots do.
Why on earth are you reading such trash?
I really cannot understand why people read tabloids. It's like the epitome of retardness. Not the fact such backward papers exist, but there are people who take the time and pay money to read them
Only read the first couple of paragraphs and didn't finish. All I know is that Catherine Zeta Jones has got to be like in her 40s now, right? She still looks hot to me.
Speaking of Vazquez-Marquez, when I re-watch III, I always notice Jack Nicholson and Sly Stallone in the audience. Stallone has seen a lot of great fights live. I'm pretty sure he was at Bowe-Holyfield II and a shitload of other fights. I'm sure those seats are like spending $2 to him. Must be nice.
"Draped in the Welsh flag, Zeta Jones watches Calzaghe and Hopkins batter each other senseless"
:bsflag:
"Muhammad Ali, once a hero of mine and thought by many to have been the greatest boxer ever, didn't begin to show symptoms of the damage done to his brain until years after he'd finished fighting."
Ali had shown sympyons long before! Slurred speech should be easily noticed when compared to what we had before us in 1964!
"That's nonsense. Very few boxers scrape more than a meagre living from it, and if there is a sport that consistently gives working-class boys the chance to earn fortunes and escape their upbringing it's football - not boxing."
How many kids does boxing keep of the streets?? Theres a robbery in my area and the police come lookin I can say well theres 20 kids who didnt do it:fu2: and just as many people are broken by football as boxing, each year 100's of kids go over to england from here and maybe 1 or 2 will make it, the rest get injured, know nothing more than football/boxing = no job, broken dreams.
And about the boxers being killed.. How many fans do we here of each week being killed at football matches around the world?? I dont see the same level of hooliganism at boxing matches?? Do you?? Where are the firms!!
You are a wanker!!!
Stupid, stupid article.
1. So just because celebrities and millionaires go to watch a boxing match, they should be ridiculed? They are no different to regular fans, with the exception of large amounts of money.
2. Boxers choose to enter the sport, enjoy and love the sport and can quit any time they want to. They are fully aware of the risks involved, and should not be patronised by a shitty journalist.
3. Calzaghe couldn't hurt a fly with his slaps, so Hopkins needn't worry about any long lasting effects from that fight...
I hate any article that assumes some kind of moral high-ground and works from there.
It's just bad journalism.
The Daily Mail is a pretentious rag written for those people who are-not-quite-properly-middle-class but will attempt to have strong opinions on everything.
I read the red-tops, yes; they are rubbish but they know what they are. No pretence about them. Except the Sun, which is pretty racist, and only really reaches any kind of moral standpoint when it is something to do with 'Paedo's'
What tripe. It almost sounded like some April Fool's/comedy shit, but then as I read on it became clear that he was actually being serious.
Daily Bullshit indeed.
It's a Jones_Calzaghe though.
the caption said: "Punch drunk: These celebrities take pleasure in watching Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins inflict pain" though
WOW...This guys even worse than Kevin Iole...and a total dumbass if he considers the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight violent...that shit had barely any action...I imagine if he watched Rafa/Izzy he'd have a ****ing heart attack.
I guess this guy is what the Brits refer to as a WANKER...
lmao good point
The truth hurts sometimes...... It was a well written article that was completely unbiased and in the view of someone else....
We actually need more reporters like this that are willing to speak their minds....
YEAH RIGHT..... F*CK THIS PIECE OF SHIT ARTICLE!!!!!!!
lol yeah
'United by their millions and their moral vacuity, they howled their encouragement as two brave, fighting puppets'
The article has alredy fallen apart imo. Puppets? I forgot that all boxers have been forced into a life of painful training and professional fighting. That's why we can go to see it and enjoy it, because both men want it.
If this article had only talked about our need to see brutality, well thats one issue and yeah we're probabaly all vicious ****ers who want to see blood. But this article is going on about celebrities who go to these fights. What just because they have money they can't see two millionaries fight eachother?

look @ Phillip Green, Stallone, Swarzenneger, Tom Jones, and Simon Cowell looking like they are falling asleep :lol1:
Shouldn't have gone to a Hopkins fight!
