CARL Froch fury as TV snubs his big night
By Tom Hopkinson
Carl Froch has branded British TV bosses "a disgrace" for turning their backs on his first world title defence.
Froch, 31, is Britain's ONLY world boxing champion - but BBC, ITV and the satellite channels don't want to know.
He defends the WBC super-middleweight crown against ex-world champ Jermain Taylor, 30, in Connecticut in four weeks' time.
A deal has been struck with US TV giant Showtime to screen the fight live in America, but British fans may not see it.
Froch blasted: "For Britain's only world champion to be in such a big fight and it not to be screened is unheard of.
"It's a disgrace if it doesn't get shown and the people of Britain haven't got a chance to see this.
"It's not like I am up against a bum or an ordinary slugger who nobody is interested in ... "Setanta say they are the home of boxing. Well, they should be getting behind a British boy."
Froch, who claimed his crown in December by beating Jean Pascal, has a massive fight on his hands at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods resort. But he knows he has the power to beat Taylor.
This will defo be on the tele over in the UK somehow. Setanta managed to get the Cotto-Jennings fight at the last minute so expect them to get this.
The whole Froch camp are mad if they think Froch is PPV mode....even Amir Khan not PPV mode imo.
I mean Bunce has yet to even mention the rights to the fight.
i emailed him yesterday about getting the fight on setanta, he said this:
I'm on it...but it's a lorra lorra money.
Adios.
Bunce.
agree.
Setanta will definately pick it up last minute, and no surprise there, of course the fight will be shown, i cant understand why people are worried. No way will it not be on.
One thing tho that disappoints me is ITV bottling it. They've been behind Carl all his career, and as it always goes, they drop him when it gets interesting. ITV dont like payment out one bit !
Shame. Big time boxing should have its place on mainstream, regardless of the time of the fight. I would always stay up late to watch Tyson, for example, in the mid 80's. The fact it's on late/early is a shabby arguement by them when the truth is they dont want to pay a lot of money.
anyway, dont fret people, the fight will be on, im 110% sure of that, oh, and it will definately be setanta too - why on earth do you think he's been on the show so much lately !
ITV wanted to show it but Froch's team wanted it to be on PPV and did not want ITV involved, I beleve ITV were going to show a re run of the fight but that doesnt look like happening now, They should never have tried to go the PPV route.
Can you remember the last time itv put on a big fight at 4am?
I remember the Beeb showing Lewis getting wrecked by Rahman.
Are they not in the equation at all?
At least with the Beeb they can plug the shit out of the fight on radio, MOTD etc.
Don't understand why people are saying 'Karma'?
As fans we moan and bitch that the big fights don't happen, heavyweights are boring etc etc.
Then one fighter, Froch, who loves the sport and brings great excitement and some K.O. power, delivers a FOTY candidate in his previous fight, to win a world title. Then gives up his advantages of being the champion and takes a fight across the pond, and yet still no UK broadcaster picked the fight up (100% it will in the end)
And as for being a loud mouth, imagine you thought you were the best at SMW and all you wanted was a chance to fight the no.1 guy, but instead you have to watch him fight against guys who are old or clearly not good enough, it would kill you and you have to feel for the guy.
He doesn't.
He's on record saying so..several times.
He doesn't watch boxing.

why the hell aint it gona be ITV i no why froch has his title and is demanding big money expecting to go straight to pay per view, he should take a cut and stay on ITV and increase his fan base
Exactly it was a stupid move trying to put it on PPV it would never sell.
there's a certain amount of Kharmic Justice about the fact teh Fighter with the most to say about other fighters suddenly finds he can't sell his fight.
Serves him right for being a gobby cunt, something about Hennessy fighters turns them into Twats.

The economics of this fight were shit from day 1.
They couldn't offer Taylor enough for him to travel to the UK, especially when HBO didn't want the fight period and Showtime wasn't interested in showing it if it went off in England (they wanted to air a live fight in the late evening, not in the mid-afternoon or on tape delay).
Froch bitched about the money he was being offered to fight in the US but finally asked for an extra $50K, which was given, and he accepted without first securing a TV deal. This was only after there was a verbal agreement between Taylor/Green to fight on Showtime, prompting Froch to realize that Taylor would move on without him (imagine that, a fighter looking after his own interests), and subsequently jumping at the chance to fight Taylor.
Now we see that Taylor played it smart and safe, doing whatever it took to ensure he got his paycheck AND his face would be on television. Meanwhile Froch deserves credit for taking the fight on Taylor's terms, but we see what happens when a fighter/promoter doesn't have all their ducks in a row prior to signing the fight contract. Really amateurish handling of the situation by Froch and Hennessy, if you ask me, and he and his fans might be the ones paying for it.
I cant see it the fight is 4wks away they would need atleast that to promote the bout. I just cannot see them investing in a sure fire flop. Amir Khan had a big following outside boxing circles Froch is totally unknown.
As much as i disagree with Khan being on ppv, Warren has put on some really good cards with good undercards. Witter is not even slated to be on the Froch/Taylor card.
If Hennessy was serious about selling this night to the big guns he would surely have Witter on the undercard.
Froch/Taylor while a good fight for us fans its just not worth 15.00 and to non boxing fans they would never even give it a second glance.
Just my thoughts.
Yeah that's what I was thinking.
I'll admire Froch in a perverse way if he sees this shit out and doesn't accept any money from any UK networks. Of course it means he would have shit all over the fans but you'd have to admire that the guy just doesn't give a shit about anyone and doesn't care that he's a complete knob.
I think it would be a precedent of cuntish behaviour by a British boxer.
