I think Roy wins pretty easy. Thus, it becomes hipocritical to say Pavlick is good and Roy is bad. Neither are nothing compared to a Prime Roy Jones. But at 40 I think Roy can still beat rather easily a prime Pavlick.
How do you guys think RJJ would have done against the Pavlik that turned up against B-hop at 170?
It all depends on how much of Pavlik's poor performance you attribute to what Bernard did.
Let's not play games, from a tactical perspetive, Bernard has it all over Roy. Jones just never really needed too many tactical considerations when he was at his best, he was just so far above everyone.
Unless Pavlik actually was significantly down physically for that fight (which I don't believe he was) he still beats Roy IMO.
All these ppl saying Roy beats Pavlik have failed to answer my question regarding Roy's current vulnerability to volume punchers. How does he do it? He sure as hell isn't springing around the ring, making Pavlik miss then tagging him with combos before resetting like a prime Roy would have done.
I doubt that Roy would or could make it down to the 160 lbs. middleweight limit, so the fight would have to take place at the super middleweight limit of 168 lbs...Kelly's only bout near 168 lbs. was the B-Hop fight in which the 170 lbs. Pavlik was taken to school by Hopkins...Pavlik even stated that he felt uncomfortable fighting beyond 160 lbs...Roy hasn't fought below 170 lbs. since 1996, so weight would be an issue with RJJ as well...But either way, I think that Kelly Pavlik's youth and power would overwhelm Roy, who's only impressive performances of late have come against a blown-up Tito Trinidad and Omar Sheika
wrong, roy can not still move. he lays on the ropes. perfect for pavlik. roys hands a still quick, but don't mistake that as moving. his legs are gone.
You beat me to it man. This is 100% correct.
pavlik is no LHW, roy will dominate him, his defense is nothing to write home about neither, roy can still move, he has better lateral movement than jermain taylor, and can still punch from odd angles.
He can't move in the ways that matter anymore.
In his prime Jones would have barely been hit by Pavlik. His explosiveness in his legs would have had him leaping in and out of range and tagging Kelly with unreadable and precise power combinations.
WHen was the last time you say Roy use his legs in that fashion? Ruiz? Perhaps even before then. Roy's entire game now relies on his handspeed, and even that is not what it used to be.

LOL, you guys are great.
Yeah, whatever, I guess you are right. Roy just beat Sheika, I guess he would fuk Pavlik up beyond repair. My mistake. I must have been imagining Roy barely throwing a proper punch for 6 rounds against Calzaghe; or struggling in the first half of a fight against a fat, inactive Welterweight; or having to battle to beat C-class Hanshaw; or getting knocked the fuk out by a journeyman. Sorry.

I am not basing my opinion soley on my fandom for Roy Jones. Pavlik has not looked great in his last couple either.....I mean Rubio barely threw any meaningful punches in their fight but when he did he hit pavlik with everything he threw at him.....even in a tko win Pavlik looked terrible.
Pavlik is a volume puncher.
The 40 year old version of Roy Jones hates volume punchers. He tires fairly early, then resorts to a "stand-still" style of defence - something he has never done with any great success.
I don't care if the fight is at 160 or HW, there is no overcoming those facts. Roy could not win this fight. He does not have the power necessary to stop Pavlik and he would not be able to hang with his workrate for more than 2/3 rounds. Fight over.

Pavlik looked good against Taylor the 2nd time, flat against Bhop and then looked alright against Rubio, but the guy was in there just trying to survive

pavlik has no business fighting above 160 right now.
Roy is faster, more experienced, more skilled, knows how to move properly, and would be more comfortable at what I presume would be at least SMW if they were to fight,.....I really couldn't picture Pavlik winning this fight in any way other than catching Roy with a huge shot and stopping him.

Styles make fights, and roy moves too much for pavliks liking. Pavlik likes fighters who come to him. And he hates fighters who give him weird angles. Hell, Taylor in the rematch was fighting more in angles and made the fight alot closer then their first match-up.
God I hate the constant "styles make fights" answers in here. Yeah, I kind of knew that already.
Now, who has Roy beaten in the last 5 years that wasn't either a C-level fighter or shot to hell that would indicate he can beat a prime, hungry young guy like Pavlik?
Pavlik doesn't like angles...big fukn deal. Roy is 40 and has no legs. Roy's biggest weakness right now is against high volume guys. Pavlik is a horrible matchup for Roy at this point. Would Roy have beaten him easily in his prime? Of course he would have. He would have eaten him up. That was then, this is now, and Roy stands very little chance in this matchup at this point.
You only think that because you have never seen Pavlik.
How do I know you havn't seen him? Because you can't even spell his ****ing name right. It's only 6 letters how can people mess it up!
I cannot understand how ppl can think Roy can beat Pavlik right now. Who was the last fighter above C level and not completely done/bloated that ROy beat?
